My opinion. This bike is what I think of when I think of a harley. I feel it's a beautiful bike. Been on one from the dealer, and it feels great, nice performance. Plus, it's not overdone aesthetically.
I have a 2021 Softail Standard and I love it! It's my first bike ever and the bike I learned to ride on. I added a passenger seat, pegs and back rest, thenI customized it a bit more to my liking on my own (not at a dealership). I love the Softail Standard's simple and understated design that lends itself to being customizable. It's fast! It's powerful and at 5'4" I can flat foot it. Next up, I'm going to change the seat so that I can go longer distances with a bit more comfort.
these are great bikes. i own the 114 street bob, came from fast 1L bikes (which i still love) but cruising on one of these is the best. Put $13 in the small tank, & she listens to all my problems for 3-4 hours, thats cheap theropy brothers. You can sell it later for a few thousand less, but you will regret it. Simple to work on, no clutter, a swing arm bag, and your session begins.
I love the basic simplicity. I am looking to get rid of our touring bike. Too big, too much stuff. This is what I am looking at. Back to basics of riding. Good review.
I have a 2000 Softail Standard and even as old as it is. It's a wonderful bike!! I love it!! Got lucky with it too, had tons of accessories and low mileage! Runs so smoothly and easy to handle ❤
You are so dead on about the “vibe” you can only get on a Harley Davidson!! I just started riding and bought an 883 as my first bike, and that Harley vibe is immediate and unmistakable! It’s just built into the bikes!
i went and purchased my 2020 Softail Standard 2 years ago as my own Birthday present with only 1 mile on it,,didn;t have it 6 months yet and took it cross country touring putting over 4300 miles on it,, i love that bike it's now my 3rd Harley , great video 👍
I love mine , I did some customizing, Vance & Hinds pipes , screaming eagle tuner seat windshield, forward controls , added a sound bar and it's a good running bike !
I recently bought a 2003 Big Dog Mastiff with a 107 ci S&S Sidewinder with a 6 spd transmission . $7,000.00 Black with multi-color flames. I'm in love. Ride safe good people.
Which is one of the reasons I just traded my Kawasaki ninja 1000gx, for this bike...of course, I always liked Harley, after seeing Evel, the Michigan State Fair cow palace, back in 73', clear 15 pickups...yeah..
Yea it’s been about 6 years since I hade a bike and I’m excited about getting back in . Looking at the soft tail or street bob or the chief! Thanks for the video
First thing to be done when I do get my hands on mine is the exhaust is going to be changed to something louder. Second the wheels will be changed and that'll be about it for me.
Nice review. I bought one in June, first bike. Added engine guard, swing arm bag, Mustang seat and Cobra exhaust. I agree with everything you said except maybe the part about the seat. After 30min, have to step off.
Dylan Rutland How much more money does the dealership charge you than the RVP? I know GenZ has a video about it, but I would like to know your final price. Thanks in advance!
@@adriamillasluque 15,691.01 it was originally almost 20k I went back in and said I was going to walk if they couldn't get my payment down they took off a year warranty I didn't want thankfully they worked with me just had to push them a bit to do so.
Thanks for the support Bobby, make sure to tune into today’s 2 video uploads & let me know what you think of them! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_1Sn6MQQ-wY.html
Nice bike, but I like the slim a little better, more sitting IN the bike, slanted tank looks better imo. There are a good price and very Customizable. Looking for my first Harley. But leaning toward slim
I’m getting over 40 mpg with mine so around 120 miles between fill ups works for me. Gingybeard man has a RU-vid video where he puts a Softail Slim tank on his Streebob.
@@GenZBiker it looks more chunky than it rides .. even with the ape handelbar (though it is a small one) it can be handled easily around corners .. even for people not used to cruiser like bikes. Have been riding different bikes from Kawasaki z900rs to Indian Scout but this one simply got me. Planning to buy one, definetly worth it. Only thing I would change is to move footpegs more forward (the one I had for testdrive had them this way and I found it more comfortable. I am 5 foot 10.
Yes I do love the softail standard it is a wonderful motorcycle it’s a wonderful Harley it’s got a lot of potential I’m not too hip on the parts trying to acquire them but I must have patience the guys at Reno Harley Davidson or accommodating me and working with me and they gave me a fair deal as far as a fair price being monthly payments 250 would be fair I’m paying quite a bit more I’m not liking that but it is my choice hopefully I can pay it off fast but I bought it because I’ve always wanted a new Harley I’m not too particular on the seat to seat can scare you but it’s mostly because of the bike it has lots of power go see the guys at Reno Harley they are fairAnd they will work with you on getting your customizable parts for your bike
The standard does look just like that,…Standard, but I love the Heritage Softail line,I have an older 03 Classic,100 year Anniversary,I know it’s not a Standard but after being on this Softail,I don’t know if I could ride a Standard,I’m actually thinking about a 22 Heritage Classic, but hey,to each their own, just ride safe my Friends, keep the shiny side up and the rubber on the road🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The coastal kit is definitely a good look that plays off of the traditional club style motorcycle as seen in pop culture TV shows such as Sons of Anarchy. I am right with you there in that I like more black than Chrome. Chrome requires polishing and a lot of elbow grease where as Black hides the dirt. If it were me I would definitely go with a two up seat, the club style look and maybe some thrashing supply bags and I would be set!
@@GenZBiker Indeed! Recently started watching SoA and therefore my Harley interest got intensified a bit! Think the Softtail Standard looks the part with the Coastal Kit. Definitely want the 2 seat so I can bring my other half along. Yeah chrome is a bit annoying but I could live with some of it then ill be occupied during the winter months at least haha. Think ill order one for next spring over the street bob which is a bit more but it adds up in the end. Cant wait!
Bullseye at (3:25). Sportsters were never intended to cruise 72mph+ & frequent attempts will ruin the motor. That being said racing around splitting lanes on a BT makes it feel like your riding a tank.
Yessir! Thanks for watching Mark. Got any ideas of future vids youd like to see me make. Please be sure to subscribe & hit the 🔔 icon to be notified of future uploads 🙏🏼
You missed the major reasons to have the fxst standard. They are 3 inches longer in wheelbase and taller front forks and are better than the road king, fatboy, and electra on the highway. Along with the longer length, the standard for each year will have as large an engine as the heritage and road king and electra. My 02 softail standard is more bike than my 97 fatboy or even the new fatboys, and if loaded with saddle bags and windshield is more comfortable on the highway than the electra
@@GenZBiker You bet GenZ. From pictures the electra and fatboy look larger than the standard, but in real life pull up a standard next to the other two or even a heritage and that standard is longer and offers a smoother highway ride. A heritage only has a 63 inch wheelbase and the standard has 66.7. If your taller highway guy would test ride a standard before they bought any other harley line they would get the standard and dress it up like the electra. Most HD dealers dont carry many standards or sometimes none and buyers arent aware of what im saying
@@GenZBiker wrong! Hardcore Harley riders like riding free of all technology and assist systems! That's why it doesn't have abs, because it's driver oriented... it must have that classic old school feel!
@@arkhamlegend786 Let's be honest, the only reason you might not want ABS is for off road riding. And I don't see many weekend dentist leather daddies roughing it out in the dirt on their 17,000 dollar bikes that often.
I bought the HD Sundowner sear with the higher removable sissy bar. I like it a lot. The seat makes the bike look larger. I sometimes ride 2-up so the solo seat wouldn’t do. Don’t get the low sissy bar. I did. It didn’t fit right with the 2-up seat. Luckily the dealer let me exchange it. Now I can carry a passenger and sling stuff on the sissy bar. I really like this bike. Powerful, handles great, and I don’t like either the black out Mennonite look or the chromed up clown cars. This bike suits me fine.
Looking to get one with 500 miles and some upgrades being sold as used for less than a new counterpart. Which make sense. But the reasoning here is weak. Had to stop by point #2.
LIFEISGOOD NC Glad you liked the video man, if you liked this video, stay tuned to the channel for tomorrow’s upload as I’ll be picking up yet another H-D softail from the corporate HQ! Any guesses what it is? Ps please share the channel with a friend & help me get to 1k subs 🙏🏼🔑👏🏼
There’s a lot of factors that play into this which is why you paid $16.5k & one of the others people that commented below only paid $14k. Really ranges based on your states taxes & tons of other factors. Where do you live? Im guessing CALI! 😂
In you're opinion, how fit would the softail standard be as a first bike vs say a 1200 sportster? If this helps, i have throttle, clutch and breaking control already. Ive ridden bikes before even tho its typically on a 450cc honda. Ive ridden a 1200 basically down the street and turn back. Reason why im asking is my local harley dealer tried selling me one even tho i did ask for a bike thats basically a beginner. Im looking to buy a harley in the next year and been doing as much research as i could
Would you recommend this as a starter bike? Ive road dirt bikes and have a great sense of handling on a bike. But ive never road an actual bike made for the road.
Bro if you were short guy don’t go to Harley because you cannot get a bike it will fit you especially the softail standard 2020 well maybe it well I don’t know it is very hard to get parts for that bike but it isn’t for the 2020 Street pal that’s weird right
Bro that seat sucks so bad you will almost slide right off of it I know I have that bike and i had to replace the seat right away other than that it rocks
I have a small but important question i need to ask. I am a pretty short dude ( 5.6). will it be easy for me to ride the bike and be comfortable with the steering wheel? I know it sounds dumb but im curius
Can't remember the exact dollar amounts, they differ from model to model, but it's not much. Sales commission is flat $150 per bike. New or used. Most money is made in parts and merchandise.
Looks like an old Shadow 600. Put this side by side with the old Twin-cam or Evo Softail Standards and it will pale. Sure, it has a more capable motor but...looks wise, this is a step back. Looks unfinished.
That’s the point, it’s a blank slate for the rider to make into whatever they want! A friend of mine actually did a pretty sick chopper build on his 🙏🏼🔥
@@GenZBiker That's what Harley tries to make us think. Oh, it's a blank canvas, bla bla. I am sure it can be customized like hell but that did not stopped the old models from being customized. Also, some people prefer to keep it as stock as possible and just enjoy riding. Anyway, to each their own, I suppose.
The street bob is an extra 1k for basically the same thing simply with blacked out chrome. As someone who would put a new exhaust and bars on anyways, thats just a waste of 1k. To each is own though!
In stock form, yes. But... you might find yourself to be more comfortable on it with a seat updrade to a more tall seat like the saddleman step up. The other obvious option is you buy the bike & simply put forward controls on it & then you’re ready to roll! Hope that answers your question!
** 3 reasons to NOT buy a HD Softail Standard: 1) Terribly cramped riding position for tall(ish) riders. 2) Small fuel tank-for such a large displacement bike (piss-poor range between fill-ups). 3) Over-priced ( I hate when HD and it's shameless promoters, go on and on about how this model is a platform to build on!! WTF, by the time you "customize" it you're tickling the 20k mark. It doesn't even come with ABS standard (extra $750) How about making a "custom" bike right out of the factory that you don't have to start spending money on as soon as it's out the door??!! Ridiculous. Like PT Barnum said: "there's a sucker born every minute".... Remember 1 thing Gen Z's: HD is a multi-billion dollar marketing machine that knows how to over-hype it's name and make millions on unsuspecting youngsters who want to buy into the Harley mystique! Don't fall for it.
