The 3 most common roof systems used in the US with their advantages and disadvantages are explained.
EPDM Rubber - TPO Vinyl - Modified Bitumen Torch Down Rubber Membranes
EPDM Rubber is a synthetic rubber that is 60 thousand of an inch thick or the equivalent of a quarter coin. Adhesives are used to bond seams together. These adhesives are what fail during extreme heat and compromise the rest of the roof. The EPDM Rubber Roof System has gone through 5 revisions since its introduction 50 years ago. The last revision on the adhesive was in 2016. It's only been 2 years that this adhesive has been tested in the field. It takes at least 20 years to know if this will work or not.
TPO Vinyl membranes came on the market between 15 - 20 years ago

how does modified bitumen handle big puddles? Are all MB two ply or do we need to ask for a specific MM?

Can a modified bitumen roof by used on an RV roof and if so where can I find examples of that? I don’t care if I weighs more cause my RV has an aluminum frame

Yes you can use Modified Bitumen. Any Roofing supply place like ABC Building Supply and Allied Building Supply or Beacon Roofing will carry it.

It is a subjective presentation! If installed correctly, an EPDM roof lasts a lifetime! Of course it must be maintained in time! Do not deny that 2 thick layers of bituminous membranes are very good on rigid structures! On elastic structures EPDM is the basis !!!! I do not agree with mounting directly on the gravel layer for a circulating roof!

Anybody pushing torch down knows nothing about commercial roofing. Also., why the hell did you not vac or get rid of all the loose stone?! BAD roofing practices

Anyone that pushes anything else are clueless. 2 Ply APP 180 from Firestone or GAF Torch Down will outlast any other roof system. EPDM rubber and TPO (Thermoplastic) roofs are to thin and barely get 15 years without any trouble. Then you ask why not vacuum the loose stone. If you do that, then you create an uneven surface because some of the stone is stuck to the tar. I rather rake the stone and get rid of big rocks and twigs making it relatively smooth. If we did what you think what should be done, then you will have such an uneven surface because of stone embedded in the tar, it would become unpractical to install. Then you will need a recovery soft board or Isso board to smooth out the surface. If you havn't installed Torch Down roofs and havn't had the opportunity to go over stone, then you should not show your inexperience by opening your mouth. Post a link of where you are busy installing a roof. i would like to see.
