Thank you for sharing your experience with some ecommerce solutions that I had not previously. I am seeing a lot of advertising from Wix and SquareSpace, from YT creators for the latter especially. Did you not include them because you have not used their services in the past?
Shift4Shop is only available if you are resident in the United States. RU-vidrs should acknowledge that there is an international audience outside of America.
Shopify terminated my store without notice, refunded my subscription fee, and won't tell me why. My store was incomplete, had ZERO products, and ZERO sales. I had simply finished the backend work connecting a domain and configuring shipping zones. Shopify is crazy for this. Thanks for the alternatives!
@@barqbiz I came from WP and woo-commerce but switched to shopify.. I just got an email this morning saying my items aren't supported by shopify pay.. I am beyond mad.. All of my competition have shopify stores and are using shopify pay at checkout..
Same happened to me today. I finished to set up the store, domain, added all the tos, returns policy in order to link google shopping etc. I got banned because of putting password/credit card number on my website, wut???? Didn’t put anything like that, sent a ticket but got no reply. Shopify is really disappointing
Same, just happened to me, still on 3 day trial too then suddenly cannot access store admin and the store saying I dont have permission 🙃 good grief they havent deduct anything from my card
Shift4Shop is NOT Free. I just spoke to them myself and it's ONLY free if you can sell $500.00 or more. "all for $0 when processing at least $500 monthly with Shift4 payment processing." If you're beginning and don't sell for a while, you get hit with a $29.00 monthly fee.
Shopify is for newbies, who have no idea about technical stuff. You save maybe first 50 hours on shop setup, but then you pay a lifetime to this company
Oh wow. This is perfect. There are a lot of people pedalling Shopify as the only real option. It ends up feeling like an echo chamber and you start to think there are no other alternatives. So this is incredibly refreshing! Thank you!
Unfortunately, if you live outside of the US and want to do business internationally, you cannot use this platform. I literally just tried to signup on to the platform to begin to use it and I got a message that it is not for persons outside of the US. I'm in the Caribbean.
@@claudialynettewhite Try Big Cartel. They might be more location friendly. I wonder if getting a VPN would help as well? Although I suspect if your bank accounts arent US based they may squabble about that as well.
I have used a lot of software and worked for many software companies, and Shopify is hands down the best. Period. The reason to use it? Amazing customer service. I always feel like I have a team of people working behind me.
@@wendywindsor3459 Agreed. I originally tried 3Dcart.. but they were extremely unethical. Tried BigCommerce.. but the platform was not very user friendly. I have been using Shopify for 5 years and I am very happy with everything they offer.
to think i was just going to my bed...what a gem this is. i subbed from a previous video but i'm in such awe of this video. Oh praise the Lord. Thank you sir...i could cry
You didn’t list the CONS of Shift4Shop. Setting up a shop is like walking through mud. It was built on top of an older platform called 3DCart so everything is mixed up. You have to set up your own relationships with shippers, and then integrate those. Photos were hard to figure out. But the worst thing is, if you don’t start selling very quickly, they kick you off the site. I spent weeks entering inventory and trying to link and resize photos and then they canceled my store because I hadn’t sold anything yet. There was no warning ahead of time that that would happen.
Hi Mary. We've started two stores on Shift4 already. One is run by my 13 year old. It takes time to learn the gui but it's a powerful cart. You will get taken down if you don't set up payment processing with 90 days.
OMG.. Seriously? Where do they get off cancelling your store? You are paying a monthly fee! It doesn't seem like it is any of their business whether you sell $10 or $10,000. 😮
Thank you! Definitely saved me a lot of headache and this is probably the most comprehensive review of e-commerce I’ve seen. Now I can finally make an informed decision!
Excellent job in outlining the pros and cons of each option, ranking them, and the summary at the end. Very helpful, thanks for making this easy to understand and organized!
Guys Try OrderEye one stop solution for all your solutions if your restaurant owner or Shopify customer not happy with them. Because Shopify have lot of restrictions and charges cost for every thing plus you can’t manage quick delivery of orders.. This video is a waste of time. Now Thank me later👋
Thanks for making this video, Shopify did give a headache by making accounts inactive without any warning or email. I scratched my head for 3 days thinking what went wrong till the support mail arrived. Destroyed my business and reputation.
I’m using Shopify. And when I started and needed help, their team couldn’t help at all; they knew nothing. This happened again and again. So, lousy support. They may be available, but they’re generally lousy.
I love how you broke everything down for the viewer. This is so helpful. I will definitely try out a couple of the platforms based on your information. Thanks again! ♥
Wait till you have a big issue with Shopify and the support is non-existent. And if you sell anything gun-related stay away from PayPal and Square. Great video!
As a web developer of more than 15 years, this really rings true. I feel like broken record explaining why Shopify is not the best fit for 95% of the projects I work on. Just because you slap a pretty color paint on it, wrap it in a bow and spend a few million a month advertising something, it doesn't make it the best.
The only question I have is that Shopify has a huge platform and there’s good traffic to sell anything. I don’t even know those three you mentioned and I understand the pros and cons which you did a great job of explaining. But, I still very overwhelmed with what would be the best for me…but thank you for sharing 👍👍👍
I had to leave Big Commerce as the 2 step log in constantly failed. By the time their server sent the email with the code it was out of date. I couldn't log in to my store for over 6 months. This issue was reported by a number of users and yet there was no priority to fix it. If it's fixed now that would be great as the platform was wonderful to use. Just my experience.
Hi! Im doing research before launching an e-commerce site and loved your video. Do you have an update to this content or is it still mostly relevant two years later? Thank you so much!
Shift4Shop should be called Shit4Shop. Not even really an option. They are horrible for more reasons than you can list. Used to be 3Dcart.. which was so bad they had to change their name. They are not doing any better the second time around. Extremely UNETHICAL.. horrible platform.. if you are in a chat with customer service and you ask a sensitive question they don't want to answer they will just end the chat. 😲
Unfortunately the Shift4Shop free plan is still not available outside the US as of 2023. (as a side note, with all due respect to the business, their name is terrible. It's 1 lisp or typo away from manure 😅)
Great explanation about all pros and cons of each alternative! I feel blessed I found this video as I was almost going to start with Shopify !! Thanks for sharing your wisdom ✌️😊
Just subscribed. Great informative video. I was setting up a Shopify for my wife. She’s just starting out a small shop selling custom planner and budgeting products and we only knew about Shopify and Etsy.
Thank you. I'm trying to start an online business and your videos are by far the most straightforward and they are helping me immensly, again, thank you.
Hi Ronald, I'm also into Ecom although I started over two years ago. I'd however like to share useful information and ideas with you. Is there any other way I can reach you?
I can't even figure out how to buy something on shopify. I've looked up how to buy on shopify and I'm only offered how to start my own store. Why would I start a store if I xant even figure out how to buy on shopify.
I appreciate your comment. Please let us know an update about your experience and what you would recommend. From all the comments I read, it seems that in person, pop up shop, face to face experience is the best way to go, unless you are making millions of sales. I am appalled to learn so many people say these platforms are so expensive for small businesses. Had no idea that selling online has become a business for the digital world, more than for the people who offer physical services and products.
WOW! you gave so much valuable information that it took me 2 days to absorb it all. thanks so much for your insight and experience. NOW I HAVE A CLEAR DECISIVE CHOICE TO MAKE.
While this video was enlightening, you completely missed comparing an item that would be a deal breaker for me: With Shopify you can set it up to automatically handle most common sales tax calculations. You can also set up tax overrides to address unique tax laws and situations. Shopify uses many default sales tax rates, which are updated regularly. You didn't mention anything about sales tax collection for those other sites and it can be a nightmare as a small shop owner trying to figure out the different sales tax rates at first. Yes, you will eventually have to make some tweaks, but when you are just getting started you have so many other things to learn and master before you even make a sale.
Love the video❤️ I just started my print-on-demand journey and found Crafted Threads. They have a ton of designs and it saved me so much time. They have something in every niche. And lifetime updates too!!
I really appreciate the video. I am frustrated with Shopify over a bug (why I'm witching this video) and I've had dozens of frustrating experiences trying to report other bug and feature requests. So, I would give Shopify a 2.5 out of 5 on customer support. They do have good documentation.
Thanks for this video. It's very helpful. The list of countries where Shopify Payments can be used is VERY short -- even shorter than Etsy's list of countries where its payment system can be used. At the end of the day both Shopify and Etsy are ignoring the potential of many foreign markets. I live in Bangkok and neither Shopify and Etsy do not accept sellers from Thailand. Both Shopify and Etsy say they plan to add more countries. But I have not seen any changes over the past few years.
I was about to message Steve about the very same thing. The landscape is changing. Hostinger is advertising that they have removed all technical pitfalls and hurdles from Woo. Also, I notice that Shopify has gone overkill on their marketing. The amount of videos promoting Shopify have EXPLODED on RU-vid. I think they are bleeding sellers and are throwing massive amounts of money to influencers.
Excellent and very helpful. Shopify caused nightmares as I could not find what I need to create online ordering for our restaurant. Thank you for this excellent video.
Tax wise its like brexit never happened you still get vat tax for going outside the eu still eu centric You can however open a company in tje country you wish to do business in without traveling there but its a bit pricey uk is the cheapest country iv seen to open a company on remotely
Wow! Thank you for this clear, thorough presentation including line summaries of your main points. Shift 4 Shop sounds great! I don't think I'd get through pronouncing it as well as you do. I'd have gotten tongue-tied and said something that would have to be edited. It's a tongue-twister for sure! 😀
Soo much upset with shopify payments im the UK. I rate the customer service below zero because they are all bots. Telling you the same thing over and over again.
Shift4Shop you did not mention its ONLY FREE if you make a minimum of $500 in transactions THEN it's FREE for us small business owners we can't do this but I would love to switch!
Thanks for the great advice. I'm just starting out and trying to remain grounded and not see $$$ before the work is done to understand what it is I want to do. Appreciate your candid advice and sharing of knowledge..
Hi, a question I cannot see the price for your book anywhere, and I usually never order anything without knowing how much Im going to pay for it. I would like to preorder do.
Tried Ship4Shop 13:50. Signed up. Looked very promising. Had my cart ready to go, BUT out of nowhere, they said I could not use their credit card processing. I'd have to use my PayPal account. We had not gone live with our store. We provided all banking, corporate and personal info required. Myself & my company have excellent credit ratings. Shop4 offered no explanation and would not talk with us. An we were not selling any prohibited products. A friend suggested that they likely declined us because our items cost $1,500 to $2,500 each and people could buy multiple units ..... meaning some sales could easily exceed $15K or more. Very strange behavior from this company.
This is great information. l wish l dicovered this earlier with my t-sshirt brand. One thing that i find HILARIOUS, is thst this video is littered with shopify ads throughout the video. Thanks again for an insightful suggestion. Continued success!
Wordpress works as long as you have a developer in a 3rd world country doing maintenance for you for cheap. Otherwise get ready for getting constantly hacked after 1st or 2nd year.
Thanks for this shopify must be cleaning house they terminated my account out of the blue! Baffled but these are great alternatives at the end of the day it’s what you put into it which makes the difference going with big commerce!
The crazy thing is that i am a developer, I can build the whole thing from bottom up in 2 or 3 weeks max. But I am so lazy to always update it whenever a newer version of something has occurred
Silly question but I"m paying astronomical fees on Shopify but I have spent countless hours uploading products onto shopify. Is there a way that the alternative sites can import current products? I mean, what would be a great selling feature!!
Shopify just has great online features, we want to grow online and Shopify is necessary to scale. And we have a brick and mortar store so inventory sync is needed
I think I'm misunderstanding. Woo Commerce is asking me for $70 a month but you said it's free. Is it because they refund you the first month if not satisfied?
We're a digtal-based PR firm. Our clients will complete online form for us to create a press release from. It's technically ecommerce since it is an order but we will not really have a shop. Does anyone know which service would be best for us? We'll accept credit cards for payment.
