my girls (ages 4 and 7) love the moon. what do you suggest we do for a unit study of the moon? we made the moon phases with off brand oreos and labeled the phases
Woohoo for the Ebook! At the top of a blank paper, I'll write a theme/ topic, underline it and list all subjects I like to cover then beside the subject I write how I can tie the subject and theme together. For example my last unit study was "All About Me" - Reading/ Character- We read books on being unique and having good character Art - Self portrait (art class) along with a memory book. Math- measurement lesson then we measured one another and filled that in their About Me booklet. Science- "My" human body like 5 senses, organs, and systems. Health-nutrition and exercise. Spanish- addressing self and others. Geography- Me on the Map. History - they created a timeline using their baby books as their resource. Writing- filling in their About Me booklet. Took us about two weeks to do it all because this year I want quality work vs rushed units to keep up with the monthly themes. Did I type too much? lol
Can't wait to read the ebook! I'm currently planning my first big unit study that isn't based on a purchased curriculum, but I'm using a lot of tips from your blog and channel! We're going to be studying cats :)
This year we are doing a Bailey City Kids Unit Study. Two teachers from our state wrote the book series and my kids asked for me to create a unit study based on it. We love learning about the mythological creatures from every book and every book is educational in its own unique way. For example, our last unit study was based on Mrs. Jeepers Secret cave and my kids learned so much about caves and bats just from reading the book alone not to mention the hands-on activities that we created ourselves. We love Unit Studies. They have been a part of our home school style since as far as I can remember.
