For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

Agree with you 100% on all of these for all puppies...but especially if your puppy is in the LARGE BREED category

Especially for puppies that are growing. I hate other strangers trying to undo what you are training. I hate people at Outside seating reaching out the her giving her food. I've had to SMACK the person's hand to stop my puppy eating the food from the stranger. I said leave it she didn't take the food. However,, the stranger abused me. Hhmm. I explained I will not allow my puppy to accept food from strangers. I'm training My puppy. There's no tricks. It's Manners I'm teaching My DOG MANNERS

Not a professional, but having raised two puppies to be the “perfect” companion, I can only agree. I’ve even had my friends ask if I could take their kids for a while. One thing I’ll ad is consistency. In your training and interactions with the dog, which is the “easy” part, but more so with other member of the household. No dog at the moment, but keep watching your videos and pick up great insight and advice to be put to use in case the next puppy find me.

Couldn’t agree more with not teaching my dogs tricks, obedience over crufts stuff any day. I don’t crate train but understand the benefits. I just accept for the first couple of months I will get up between 3 and 4 stand in the garden waiting for them to do their business. I also start separation training from day one. I wait outside the door and listen, once they have settled down I come back in, increasing the duration as the days go by. The more you put in early the more you get out later.

My 2 shepherd/huskies were in a crate right from the start. When we first brought our pups home, they had to go to the bathroom outside before they came in the house. They weren’t allowed out of the kitchen. I put up a baby gate, but they slept and napped in the crate. Never had an accident in the house. Once they were older and fully trained they had the run of the house

we use a crate for our mini aussie almost 10 weeks old.. we also use a playpen for him in the main room. I have 2 over 50 pound dogs and they are good with him we do let him out and confine him to 1 room when he is loose with an option for the big dogs to get out.. they can jump the gate lol puppy pads are his option for potty right now due to his shots not being complete yet. we do take him out with us but we dont put him down anywhere.

Great video buddy!! Quick question: I am crate training a new puppy and he is fairly ok with it. My question is what to do when he cries? I normally ignore him until he settles down. Would you agree with that? How do I reward a calm behaviour? I don’t want to wake him up 😂

I started taking my pup out straight away and as a result I have a really friendly dog that everyone warms to. He will come into shops with me and sit under the table whilst I eat in cafes and restaurants. He’s fine in the crate when I am busy or I’m bed. The issue I’m still working on is toilet training, partly my own fault as I don’t always have time to let him out as frequently as a pup needs to pee.

Never used a crate for my pup when he was little. He never did any damage or barked when I was out and I know ' cause I asked my neighbours each time I came home. Toilet training went very smoothly and quickly, as I had a strict routine and was always aware of the time from last pee/poop break. The jumping on people was very difficult as people would say oh I love dogs and I don't mind him acting this way when saying Hi. I always said well I DO MIND and I must insist on him behaving appropriately when out or greeting people who were visiting our home. 😊

Do you have any videos about puppies/ young dogs that already have severe separation anxiety? I know the only true way to "fix" it is desensitisation and counter-conditioning, but everywhere I look for specifics they mention that during the time you are counter conditioning, the puppy should never actually be left alone because if they get into the panic state you can start again from scratch. But I live alone and don't know anyone who can dogsit when I have appointments or need to go to the shop. So is there any advice or a video you may have? Thanks to anyone who can link it in case Will doesn't see the comment himself!

I got a 8 week old puppy mini schnauzer. He’s in his biting phase. I’ve tried the active correction. But hes still biting. Not as much. But still does. Can I do the active correction for when he bites furniture too? Or do you recommended other methods?

HOW do you stop people trying to undo our words. I want to be able to get shopping without other people trying to pat and play with my puppy. She wants to listen to me. But. OTHER people just bolt in. Then i have to discipline the Strangers as much as My puppy. Its exhausting. Please help me

People teach their dogs tricks because they believe others will see how smart their dogs are. Obedience training and learning commands show how really well a dog is trained and shows more of what the dogs need in their life. Trick training is a little circus for your own pleasure, certainly not for the dog

Yeah... It's true. I've been to an owners house who obviously loved her dogs, even though they had some resource guarding issues, weren't good on handling or leash manners AND were dog or and human aggressive to guests or passersby. But she had taught both of them some very adorable and entertaining tricks which everyone enjoyed watching (even though we weren't allowed to look the dogs in the eye) and said "how well trained they are!" I was still glad to see this family loving their dogs, despite what to me would be obviously a danger that would be an extreme stress to me if they were in my house. Everybody's a little different.

I mean, a family dog retrieving something could also be considered a trick because it’s mostly useless for family dogs. It’s still enjoyable for dog and human alike. All dogs need different amounts of exercise (physical / mental), learning tricks can be part of that. It just depends on the trick/command and what fits your dog‘s needs and abilities. Edit: I really like what how he explains it: he doesn’t like it, so he doesn’t do it. Perfect reasoning. And, it’s not something to focus on when the basics aren’t there yet.

Agreed. Teaching obedience is not just about tricks. People with small dogs have a lot more freedom than big dog puppy owners. We are trying to make well mannered big dogs. What's sad is. EVERYONE thinks a full grown small breeds are Cute in a hand bag at restaurant. Our big strong dogs. No-one WANTS to go them near them when they're fully grown. They all LOVE THE PUPPY. Making strangers LISTEN I have found more challenging than to MAKE my Staffy Puppy LISTEN. My dog doesn't do tricks. She Listens. And that's No Trick. It's A Life Skill IM AT A POINT I JUST WANT TO SAY TO EVERYONES WHO EVEN LOOKS AT MY GROWING STAFFY PUPPY. I WANT TO TELL THEM. LEAVE HER. DONT TOUCH. DO NOT SPEAK TO HER. LEAVE HER. I FEEL LIKE I AM TRAINING STRANGERS THAN MY OWN DOG

@tara34952

You're probably not taking him outside to toilet often enough. Puppies need to 'go' very often and can't control themselves the same way adult dogs (and humans!) can.

Im sorry. Im tired of hearing people say. She just a puppy.. Let her do what she wants.. Ahh yeah. NO. She is going to be a big strong dog. She is ALREADY strong. Do not over ride the owner of any Dog. The owner says no. Do not use your words to .. Yes puppy come here. NO. I just spoke do not speak to MY DOG, OR OFFER MY DOG FOOD. WHEN I JUST SAID NO. I Do not want to get into an argument with strangers whenever I am taking my Dog for a walk through the CBD. Do I need to put a sign on my dog. Or is it my fault. HOW do I correct strangers. Doing my best to correct her. Telling her leave IT. Using treats. Using the correct lead.. At home she listens to my every word. Then take her in the real world. Its getting strangers to understand. When im taking her on the train.. as The train is arrive.DONT TALK OR TRY TO TOUCH My DOG. IM TRYING TO KEEP HER FUCUSED ON WAITING FOR THE TRAIN TO STOP. AND WALKING OVER THE GAP. CARRYING HER ON THE TRAIN IS NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE AN OPTION. Without strangers interruptions. She will sit and stay and give me her paw and Drop to the ground. How do I stop strangers intterrupting my commands and training.? Please 😢

My dog doesnt know a single trick. But knows 20 useful commands. Most useful: Leave it Focused Heel Sit/Down/Stay 1..2.. GO (heel sprint)

i have never had a problem with my dogs being on their own and i have never used a create some of the modern day ways of training dogs are BS and i get told all the time when i'm out with my dog that she is well behaved so it's got nothing to do with using a create or whatever

The crate is necessary when staying at the vet or when they go to a groomer
@chevalnoir1000

It is not BS. Dogs are den animals and most love it - comparable to a kid having their own room. Some do fine without, but it’s not a generalisation. Read some good dog psychology. You do it or not, but BS it isn’t. That’s education.

There’s a difference between crate TRAINING and keeping them crated for hours on end. I agree that crate training is important for a puppy, because there will come a time when it’s needed like at the vet for surgery, or recovery at home after ACL or spine surgery, or even air travel. But I’m not in favor of habitually crating dogs. I’ve had Labs for 25 years, and can leave them in the house by themselves without having to worry about them being destructive or anxious. They get a lot of daily exercise and playtime, and just sleep the time away while I’m gone. I also wouldn’t agree with ALL dogs loving crates. That’s just not the case.

@@K3r0411 well good for you everyone is different and you love creates not dogs that's BS creates is a modern day thing is you want your dogs to be prisoners that's your choice but nothing you say is going to change my mind so stop trying

I lived with a couple of dogs who were crate trained and I can honestly say they loved it like a kennel/safe space. Crates were never locked, one of them even shut the door when he was inside. I personally have never used a crate for my dogs and never will. I do feel a lot of people abuse crates and as you say lock the dog up. Done properly I think it can be beneficial
