I have been teaching for six years using my own way of breaking the steps to my students but after I found this channel, I am considering to change the technique I usually use when I am teaching! I love you Cheryl ♥ and appreciate the help you are sharing!

Don't. Talk about over complicating the combination with her own opaque patterns. She's right about flow. A key to petit allegro, I think, is the end of one step being the beginning of the next. Another key, in my view, is knowing the individual steps so well that they are automatic. No clouding the mind with opaque patterns. That means practising the individual steps over and over and over again for beginner students, then combining them simply at first, then progressively. It also means expectation of turnout and great technique. The slow motion in this video unfortunately highlighted a lack of emphasis on technique. All too often in Western studios or recreational classes, an emphasis is placed on complicated combinations over technique. As a result students struggle to get through the combinations and do get through them with terrible technique. That is a tragedy for studio students who dream of being professional dancers.

There is another "temps leve" method. Generally, you do the "temps leve" involves a saut going up vertically and down without any "tour". The "temps leve" would be starting in 5th position pre-leap, do a big "ballon" (leap) - or saut - changing to 1st position on the leap itself, and then you land on the original 5th position with the same feet. If you do the same "temps leve" with a change of feet from 1st 5th position to the 2nd 5th position on the landing, this would be called a "changement de pied".
