I’ve been doing my leeks the exact same way for years but with the wooden handle of a rake because I’m just growing small scale 50 leeks. I love explaining to friends and family the process. Lol. If I had better knees I would have been a market gardener until and beyond my retirement at least on some scale. I love how the movement to growing your own food is picking up steam over the last couple decades. It’s better for our kids and the future generations to come.

sharing tips and tricks. In little house in the prairie, they get frost July 4th. The family finds out, and gets up before sunrise to hand water the frost off all of the corn. This actually works on a wide variety of veg.

Thanks for another beautiful and interesting video. Q; Can you make a video about your windbreaks of plants/bushes/trees with birds and insects. The idea really appeals to me, when possible I would like to see some more explanation, since it was built a few years ago. Thanks again for your time and effort.

One question- when you put the leek in the hole, do you leave it open; or do you close it up with your hands like you would any other transplant?

if i remember correctly, they leave the holes open and they slowly fill over time via watering

Yes it's my question too

Let the water fill the hole. Deposits soil right around the roots which won’t likely happen if you push the soil in by hand.

People at markets have no idea what's involved in some of these crops, great video. We planted them deep in raised beds with good results.

I use a 1” x 9” wood auger bit in my battery operated drill to make the holes. Only do 50-100 plants. Works better than a stick because it doesn’t compress the soil on the sides.

That dibber looks great! Is that a design specifically for leeks? Wondering if I made one, what else would it be useful for?

Hi- I'm in Houston. Our cool weather starts in Late October and ends in late April. Freezes are super light and rare. What would be best for us . . . . . Summer or Winter leeks? I like the idea of cold hardiness, but I also assume that the Winter varieties probably don't like our hot days. We have some hot days all the way to December and then we have some hot days also in February and March. What do you think? Thanks.

Is it worth making a planting ridge?....especially on shallower soil where 9" planting depth is close to the subsoil.

My leeks got about 6-8 inches and then just quit growing. I transplanted them about 6” into fresh potting soil in a grow bag and they’ve not grown at all in 2 weeks.

Hello ! Super interesting ! Thank you. I'm french. I try to improve my gardening...and my english by following your channel. It would be great if you could leave off the music when you are talking. It would help the comprehension. That is just a detail, nothing very important... but important to me. Many thanks for the content of your vedeos. Have a nice day ! Bye Mamiejo.
