I recently re-played Arkham games and am still in awe how amazing City is. The design of Gotham brings back memories of Animated Series. The one in AKnight was just too polished, modern and shiny. I recently created on my channel a small tribute to Kevin Conroy using the classic BtAS toys, pretty cool if I may say so myself :) November will mark the second anniversary of his passing.
Skyrim is the only one of this list that I find myself repeatedly going back to. While the main story isn't as good as it could be, the versatility that type of game affords in character build puts it over the top for me
Just demonstrates you had limited exposure to games before that. BotW does nothing new, and is overhyped by adult children who never grew up. Like every Nintendo game released in the last 15 years.
If the switch had just cause 2 on it, and it was properly promoted, it would probably sell more copies than every open world on it already, including Zelda
@@ContendCreators I love Just Cause 2 but after like something it got boring. Everything looked the same and bland after a bit of time. It kept me from getting into the game cause it kept reminding me it's not real.
My favorite open world game is actually Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny (1988). That game was incredibly innovative, boasting a day/night cycle, NPCs with their own schedules, dynamic lighting, and a feeling of never being truly safe, even in villages. Like some of the other games in the franchise, you can tackle many of the objectives in whatever order you wish, and the game doesn't just feed them to you like modern games do. You're left to your own devices and must discover what you must do by talking to NPCs and exploring the world. Best of all, everything in the game world feels purposefully placed, and it doesn't suffer from the bloat and reused content that plague many other open world games. Ultima V (and much of that franchise, in general) is an overlooked masterpiece and easily my favorite game of the 80s.
Death Stranding was the only of this worlds I left real fast... I mean, it's beautiful, but the premise of being a delivery man, gathering deliveries, pilling and adjusting it in your back... just wasn't for me
First Watchdogs’ open world version of Chicago was pretty awesome, my wife initially thought it was a movie! I’d also say in the open world version of Seattle from Infamous: Second Son.
Many great ones.Ghost of Tsusthima,Simpsons hit and run,Lika a Dragon,Sleeping Dogs,Shadow of Mordor,Spider Man 2,Arkham City is fantastic! Watched walkthrough many times. It's paused in Penguins place. I love Grand Theft Auto😀Played since he was little man. Played 1,23,Vice City.San Andreas very little. Legend of Zelda is always fantastic! 😀Witcher looks great too. Really good😀Great video😀
Death Stranding is a thing of beauty. Crossing an Icelandic inspired America, and setting up my zipline to the tune of Low Roar was a breath or fresh air for me. ❤
I strongly disagree, it's not even the best game in its own franchise, Bloodborne does almost everything better than Elden Ring tries to do, especially when it comes to the lore, the weapons, the atmosphere, the memorable bosses, and the glorious soundtrack that Bloodborne has, but Elden Ring is still a great game, that's undeniable.
@@TheDragon2000s I disagree elden ring lore is by far the best of the series and the bloodborne bosses are mostly all just monster/beasts a lot seem similar and can’t even talk so not very memorable to me plus bloodborne dodge mechanic makes the game very easy
Imo, it's garbage. Typical scenario: your partner says: "it's just a short ride". Reality: driving for an eternity and the dude can't shut his f*cking mouth. There's a reason why it's on sale so often. And if you think anyone is rating it above RDR2, you're delusional.
Genshin Impact and Fallout New Vegas and Red Dead Redemption 2 and Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V and The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim return to all the time on the PS3 or on the PS4 or on the phone
RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate edition, Ghost of Tsushima , Days gone, Spider-Man. ( cyberpunk might have launched bad but it never lacked in immersion and storyline but now it’s at another level.) Sandevistan one of the most exciting mechanic ever. Even side stories are so engaging. Night city is a character itself can’t wait for the sequel.
@@Ozz131 Witcher 3's combat in mind numbingly boring, 2 hours in and I couldnt get interested in any part of this game. The most overrated game ive ever bought.
@@clarence3238 I've played and completed all sub missions and gears etc. It was good but no enough to make me play again. The ecosystem and missions are too predictable and not lively more like heavily scripted. Still my top 10 games of all time but not top 5 personally.
Sad that Mercenaries didn't make this list. Just Cause 2 was good, but Mercenaries had fun characters to boot and Just Cause owes its existence to Mercenaries.
I'll definitely take *Tears of the Kingdom, Genshin Impact, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, NieR: Automata, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3, Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl and Pokémon: Sword & Shield* as My Top 14 Open World Video Games
Witcher III at #1 makes so much sense, it truly is one of the greatest and most beautiful games I’ve ever played! The Characters, the story, the visuals….Triss Merigold🤩. Literally a masterpiece!
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! I think the best one ever is GTA Online. I only played co-op from the beginning because I hated dying due to bad people around the map. I recently started to help out other players with Autoshop missions from mobile phone mission selector. I learned how to level up fast and collect $2+ million/day by playing Cayo Perico heists, my combined level is 600+ in Xbox One and PC, and the GTA game wealth is far over 100 million. :P
Shadow of Mordor didn't have a ''giant land''. You can run across the entire length of each map in 10-12 minutes or so. It's not like it's GTA 5 or Far Cry 5 or something like that WatchMojo.
Aw hell no!! First of all, didn't even include the truly first open world game ever, Courageous Perseus and Hydlide (1984). Didn't include World of Warcraft. Also beating Tetris as the most sold game in the world, Minecraft should of been #1. Wtf... EVE wasn't even included. Just..just..No!
Rdr2 for me easily. Look I know the realism isn't for everyone but i absolutely loved it. From the immersive world, to the graphics and gameplay and of course Arthur Morgan. Arthur is the best videogame character ever imo.

Skyrim is my all time favorite. Oblivion (not on list but predecessor) is great too. New Vegas is also amazing. I own subnautica, cyberpunk, and red dead but have not played them. Another great game is Valheim. It's like Skyrim, dark souls and minecraft had a baby. Give it a try.
Avatar frontiers of Pandora deserves to be on this list. You might argue that is it derivative of far cry but it successfully captures what it feels like to be a Na’vi. It’s open world is gorgeous both in day and night
I'm now in my fifth month of working on Tears Of The Kingdom, with no signs of slowing down. At time of writing, it's looking to overtake Nintendo's (not Activision's) Ice Hockey as the single game that held my attention the longest before I was done with it.
Play Just Cause 2 if you want a good open world and Twilight Princess if you want a good zelda. There is no reason to play the outdated, unimpressive(even for the system) "game" that is ToTK
ayo gang I'm ngl. Having Minecraft at 5 is criminal. Ya'll lowkey picking favorites. U got Marvel's Spiderman2 at 14 and Elden Ring at 12 come on bruh Tighten Up.
Very good list and we are luck to have so many amazing worlds to explore and I want more For all the blunders of ubisolft tho id say they have some incredible depictions of open worlds. I still cant get over odyssey. Exploring Ancient Greece is mind blowing. But all in all Bethesda's open worlds still fee the most alive. Nothing compares to how interactive they are.
Idk dude, Cyberpunk being that low on the list (assuming they're numbering them from the 30th to 1st in "how good of a game it is" ranking, is wrong. Cyberpunk is easily a top 10, if not 5 best open world games of all time. The characters (other than rdr2) are unmatched. The world itself is beautifully crafted. The missions are unique, the weapon variety feels endless. The in-depth systems make the game feel different nearly every playthrough. Especially after the update
