Also I just want to add a big thank you for your videos for helping me feel more comfortable with being a horror enthusiast! I feel like there's always been a lot of judgement when I say what movies I like or books and watching your videos has made me feel a lot better and that there's absolutely nothing wrong with loving a bit of horror!
@@henrykujak6535 there's something very impressive creatively when a film or show or book can make you feel completely uncomfortable even when you're sitting safely in your home!
I'm so happy to see The Emperor's new Groove on the list. I'm not so into animated movies myself but this movie calms me down so much, I could watch it every single day. It's a real comfort movie for me and I'm glad I'm not the only one
my mom would put on this movie for us growing up and as peruvian kids we were so happy seeing our culture depicted into a disney movie, still my comfort movie until this day 🤍
@@Uyuayoung i’m retrospect, yes and no. i think some things they could've made better, for example hiring peruvian voice actors and actually mentioning the fact that they're in peru haha. but other than that i think it's an ok film, some things they got right (the depictions of our villages for example) but i think if it got the same treatment films like coco and moana got, it's potential could've been met.
My top ten favs/comfort horrors are 1. Orphan 2. The Ritual 3. The Craft (if you’d consider it horror) 4. Scream 5. Jennifer’s Body 6. Rosemarys baby 7. It Follows 8. Psycho 9. The exorcist 10. Misery
I knew you had amazing taste but am SO GLAD that Thirteen is on your list! It's my second favorite film of all time and I think it's one of the absolute most under-appreciated movies of the 2000s. Even as a gay man this movie managed to relate and stay with me for years for countless different ways and is the film I feel defines my teenage experience the most. It's an absolute 10/10 film for me (not to mention gave us babies Nikki Reed, Evan Rachel Wood, and Vanessa Hudgens.)
@@twinkerbell9866 same. I think teenagers today would still relate and enjoy it. Idk if I would recommend it to 13 year olds though. It definitely put ideas into my head that definitely shouldn’t have been there. Lol
One thing I loved about Thirteen Ghosts is how the Director Never kept the ghosts in dark corners. They were brightly lit with beautifully done full makeup, right in your face! Not a lot of CGI went into the ghosts, just great acting! The people hanging in the cafeteria in The 6th Sense always makes me jump. They look into your flippin' soul! 👻
So rarely see love for Thirteen but it is one of those films that has stuck with me since I first watched it when I was also 13 (we must be pretty much the same age - there are a lot of overlaps in our favourite films and like you say, you tend to favour the era you grew up with). I have a lifelong love for Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed because of this film. I remember watching it and simultaneously feeling like I wanted to be them but also feeling very unsettled by it all.
Omg same. I loved it and thought they were so cool but it also freaked me out a bit. I was 13 as well. I don’t think it was a great influence on me. Lol
I also watched this when it came out when I was thirteen! I credit it with the reason I originally tried self harm so that’s not so great, but it was still a really great movie that I rewatch all the time.
Over Covid in the last couple years I’ve finally watched all of the horror movies I was so afraid to watch when I was little: Silent Hill, The Ring, Jeepers Creepers, Hostel, the Hills Have Eyes 🙌🏼 it’s been a ride.
AND- the Hole!! It’s superior. Very underrated. I found it on a deep dive of the internet when I was in my master’s program- don’t know how. Not goofy at ALL. Obsessed. I watched it again a few months ago just for fun.
Okay NO. I keep commenting & you keep doing this to me, I should just wait till the end but it’s a long video 😂 The Devil Wears Prada was my comfort movie throughout ALL of high school!! I can quote the entire thing, I watched it nearly every day after school. It has brought me so much joy.

My boyfriend and I just watched "Last Night In Soho" and we were in love with the movie, such a creative storyline! I think this and "Ready or Not" are my favorite recommendations of yours. We also liked Triangle. Thank you, Sarah! :)
I just want to say thank you so much, your channel has opened my eyes to so many horror movies that I love so so much (Starry eyes and The loved ones specifically) and has made me fall in love even more with the genre, one of the best horror content creators out there

Scream 1996 (I LOVE THIS MOVIE SM)
I am so SO glad that you mentioned Shutter. It scared the hell out of me, but by the end I was in floods of tears, such a sad story. Just like The Eye and Dark Water, so much Asian horror is less about defeating a big bad beastie, and more about recognition of trauma and grief. Great video.
I don't know just how many years I have been watching your videos, but it was fun to realize that I have seen many of the films that are your favorites from your recommendations!
The best Horror movie ever : 1) Lake Mungo (2008) by Joel Anderson. Nobody talk about it and it's a masterpiece... 2) The Turin Horse (2011) by Bela Tarr... 3) Begotten (1991) by E. Elias Merhige and 4) Angel Heart (1987) by Alan Parker...
Ooh, I loved Triangle so much that I watched it twice in one day. First alone and then convinced my wife how good it was and that she absolutely had to see it too. Edit: I liked Silent Hill so much that I had the siren sound as a ringtone for a long time.
My favourite 4 movies: La La Land, The Gran Hotel Budapest, Dunkirk and Matrix My favourite horror movies : The conjuring, phycho, black swan, Halloween,Blair witch project, last ning in Soho, the witch, the Blair witch project, midsommar, insidious, saw, rec, get out, the village.
I literally drop everything to play your videos. Can I also say that I love how you add where you can stream each film if available. Thank you for the amazing content.
no but you don’t understand how important it was to me seeing sunshine on this list. that’s been my comfort movie for over a decade and seeing other intellectuals loving it makes me SOB
I still remember watching Interstellar with my dad the first time. We bought it and watched it in the bonus room. One part of the movie I realized I was sitting edge of my seat, I look over and he’d done the same thing. We both laughed and relaxed back. We don’t have a lot of memories so I take those little moments. Funny little memory, but it’s a special movie and so darned beautiful. Love your list and channel. 😊
I feel like you would like Nocturnal Animals a lot, it's so beautiful. I LOVE all Tom Fords' movies. The are so perfect in every way. I wonder how you feel about them :) .

Don't have a top 30, but my favs that come to mind are: 1. Artificial Intelligence 2. Gattaca 3. Avatar 4. The Island 5. The Exorcist Edit: Pan's Labyrinth and the Orphanage too
My favorites are: Crimson Peak, Pet Semetary ( the old one), Thirteen Ghosts, Candyman, Silent Hill, Stir of Echoes, IT, Gothics, Queen of the Damned, The Ring, Shutter, The Grudge, Needful Things, The Pact, Pumpkin Head, Trick r Treat, Silence of the Lambs, Krampus, The Lost Boys, Taking Lives and I realize some of them are goofy but I like them anyways lol

I love that you included your favorite animated movie!! Emperor’s New Groove is amazing. My top 5 favorite movies are: The King’s Speech When Harry Met Sally Titanic Fatal Attraction Harry Potter
I was also 13 when Thirteen came out and I was obsessed with it. I thought they were so cool. Looking back it probably wasn’t a great influence on me. I was definitely acting out in ways similar to the film. Did you know that it was based on real life experiences in Nikki Reed’s life?
I love coming to your channel for movie recommendations because we have such similar taste in movies! Whenever you recommend a movie I add it to my list because I know it will be good 👌
Great list! I was also obsessed with all the YA dystopian books! Have you tried the Charlie Higson series “The Enemy”? Its a longer series about the zombie apocalypse with teens in London…so good! Excellent blend of pure horror and teen angst. Another books series to check out is the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. Published in 2016 but reminded me why I love teen YA dystopias!
Great list! Love the way you describe the reasons for why these movies mean so much to you. Regarding Snowpiercer, I hope you're watching the TV series because it takes the story in so many ways that the movie only hinted at (it's definitely worth your time!) Would love to hear your take on it!
I am enjoying your videos - thank you! I am not sure if you've reported on this one, but it's one of my favorites - The Deeper You Dig. Husband, wife, and daughter production. Very low budget, but very effectively done. Great music, too.
I always put my favourite movies into 3 different categories, category 1 is my favourite acclaimed movies, so movies that people praise. Category 2 is my favourite guilty pleasure type movies where I love them but others might not. And category 3 is my favourite movies that I watched when I was a child. @@cherrydeli4525 Thanks, Pet Sematary really holds a special place in my heart because I watched that as a kid and it scared me to death, especially the Zelda scenes.
I LOVE that you included a Harry Potter film on your list and I LOVE LOVE that it's Prisoner of Azkaban, my favorite book in the series. Also LOVE that you included Emperor's New Groove, also a favorite of mine. I'm gonna have to test run some of your other pics as there are a bunch I've never even heard of. I think it's the generation gap, lol, because I consider myself a movie buff but the 2000s aren't my strongest era as my 2nd child was born in 2000, so I was a little busy. My favorite horror flick is The Shining. Pure Perfection.
I was traumatised by 'gun boy' in Sixth Sense as a kid, I watched it WAY too young. I'm nearly 30 and I still can't bring myself to watch the film all the way through!
hearing you talk about the lovely bones was surprising to me, cos i personally really dislike that movie, maybe its because of how much i love the book so the movie for me could never really compare,, hearing you talk about thirteen though was surprising in a much more positive way, i love that movie so much !
I am SO GLAD you made this video!!! Watching Sunshine and my mind has been totally blown - I don't know why I skipped it when it came out because the cast is amazing and the story is crazy good. The flashes - that effect is probably more unnerving than most horror films manage to achieve now. 10/10 recommendation
Also a lover of all films, but have a special place for horror in my heart. Some favorite horrors of mine are: "It Follows", "Halloween" (1978), "Suspiria" (1977), "The Birds", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2", "Midsommar", "Silence Of The Lambs", "House" (1977) and "The Wicker Man" (1973). Also...ANYTHING with Vincent Price. Some non-horrors would be "Pulp Fiction", "Badlands" "Star Wars", "Parasite", "The Godfather", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls",
I also absolutely love Thirteen. It came out right before I turned 15, and I moved into a group home/residential treatment facility(for mental health issues) on my 15th birthday. I lived there for almost a year and it changed my life. But before that I could really relate to the characters in the movie. And also the things they were doing. So it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I am a horror fanatic but I feel like my favorite movies of all time don't include many horror movies till I get past my top 5. My top 5 in no order would probably be American History X, Blood Diamond, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003, Labyrinth, and Lord of the Rings.
This is so awesome! I love that you I included Gonjiam Haunted Asylum bc I recently watched that bc of your recommendation and LOVED it. Lol I love Emperor's New groove, I named my cat after Yzma bc she's a gray & fluffy and looks exactly like her as a cat. 😄💖
Triangle is the one movie I always recommend to ppl and without fail, they have never heard of it! So glad to hear it's on your list; I must be in the right place.
Great video and amazing channel. I can’t rank my fav but I have a list. - Akira -The Fellowship of The Ring -Children of Men -There Will Be Blood -Back To The Future -The Social Network -Meloncholia -Mullholand Drive -The Dark Knight -Goodfellas
When you mentioned the Martian and not Interstellar I was like omg how has she not mentioned Interstellar, then it was your favourite and I was like ofcourse haha its one of my favs too, makes me cry like a baby 💖
I have a list of new movies to watch and a reminder to rewatch some of my favorite movies of all times. I mean, Sunshine, Snowpiercer, The Martian, Interstellar! I watch those movies, particularly Snowpiercer, almost once a month. Now I want to watch it again. Thanks!
27:30 The Hunger Games is AMAZING. Personally I believe this franchise did so much more than the dystopian genre, it included SOO much. The books are phenomenal and the entire franchise deserves more love but I’m glad the people that love it don’t “toxify” it as much as other movies. This franchise, especially the Mockingjay movies is very adult and much more darker in the books but the movies capture that really well that it doesn’t feel edgy or trying too hard but it feels so smart. R.I.P to our favorite characters like Rue, Prim and Finnick
I absolutely LOVE the silent hill movies! As a fan of the games and overall story of SH, I thought the movies were a beautiful fit. So glad to see someone else appreciate them aswell!
Hey Sarah, have you seen Arrival? I love that movie, so beautiful, and such a great message. My all time favourite horror/chick flick is Alien/Aliens. I consider Aliens more of a chick flick, because it is such a power house of amazing women. I also love Bladerunner, with the original ending of the possibility that Deckard was a replicant, chef kiss, top tier movies. I'm nervous to see antichrist, but, I do want to see it, just working up to watching it lol
The first time I saw Misery I was like 7, and 100% traumatized. Kathie Bates in that movie made Stephen King write Dolores Claiborne, so she could play that role
So happy that you're favourite movie of all time is Interstellar, because it's mine too! Another favourite which I always think about is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
