American Conquest is the first strategy game I ever played and is what got me into the strategy/Total War games I love today. What a classic.

I'm soo happy you included Warrior Kings. That game is legendary with some of the most unique game mechanics out of any strategy games and AAA top tier writing! But barely anyone knows about it, which is a crying shame.

Spellforce and Battle Realms also have awesome RPG elements to them, they still hold up today!

Warzone 2100 is an absolute gem, I used to play it on the ps1.

Isometric 2d is such a perfect format. Not all the gems that aged well are 2d iso, but most of them are and most of them have. Nice List anyway!

So glad to see that some1 knows that Warlords Battlecry exist :D that game is so amazing , you can rarely see a RTS with 16 or so races that are completely different from each other and the heroes mechanics too are cool.

Majesty, Commando, Impossible creatures, AOE(old version), Warcraft 3, Hundred swords, Desperado. I am in tears 😢. How beautiful my childhood was in spite of all the obstacles I faced in my life! I thank the game developers from the bottom of my heart who made my childhood memorable.

I loved rise of nations and age of empires. But my favorite would be warlords 3, and Majesty 2 (which is not in the list), they had a rather unique approach.

Army Men RTS was one of my favorite strat games. I wouldn't be surprised that it didn't included in this video cause it was like a dream fever.

This was my first game on pc i have ever played, my father had this game and i would play it for HOURS when i was 5, i forgot the name of the game but i remember the graphics and sound of the game. Im feeling REALLY nonstalgic now ;)

How did I miss this. Like all 30 of them I never heard of when I was a kid. (Except the popular Aoe2, Empire Earth and Rise of Nations)

I was looking for Besieger game for at least 10 years... omg ty so much.... i remembered it has started something like "Be" but i was looking for Berseker always...

No Command and Conquer? Or Red Alert? No Warcraft or Starcraft? No Total Annihilation ? No Myth the Fallen Lord? No Sid Meier Gettysburg ? No Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far, No Ground Control? These are the Classic Strategy games I think of.

Kohan 1 and Kohan 2 are gems, I never seen anyone playing it, multiplayer I think never worked, and even on platforms like GameRanger I can't see anyone playing it, but it's still insane gems, love it ! (Sadly the 2 is bugging on recent OS so games randomly crashes from time to time, it's playable but can sometimes be annoying)

Warzone 2100! What a Great game! I think i finished it 3 times, 1 on PS1 and 2 times on PC. I loved this customization of tanks and planes, the progression of technologies from lousy machine guns to lasers. The last zone with those pulse lasers, railguns was a great "pew pew" mysterious atmosphere. Always wished the campaign lasted longer after I unlocked best weapons and cool looking tank parts. Man , I loved building those bases, preparing defenses... I think I am gonna play it for 4th time..

Those death sounds of Empire Earth are still hilarious after all those years.

Looking back, I gotta say: We have come a long way! Old games are and still will be way superior over the new ones.

I remember Spellforce, it was basically and RTS/RPG hybrid. It's been an eternity since I played. I never got far into it because I was just a dumb kid who didn't understand either of those genres yet.

Tzar is the most nostalgic rts of my childhood, how many hours have i spent playing it..

Good list, will replay some of these. Warrior kings Battles is excellent and still holds up today, as does praetorians and spell force. You forgot Blitzkrieg, Sacefoce, Men of war and Hero's of world war 2.

İ look for a game when soldiers have stars on their head for their levels , and you can choose each soldiers outfit separately. Your initial building was in hexagon shape then in each side you build another building.

"Original War" is the best strategy game with rpg elements of all time.

MY TOP 3 is age of kings, starcraft and red alert(c&c). red alert2 , sc2 and aoe3 were awesome merchandises as well. but i am glad to see warlords bc3 in this list. i really wish the game contiued.

Hi, thanks for the video. One of my favourite rts from 90s era was Space Clash, The Last Frontier. I really loved that game. Maybe u can add Star Wars Galactic BattleGrounds -The Clone Wars, it was a real fun game too.

14:47 I was looking for warlords battlecry 3 gameplay footage and stumbled upon this gem, I used to play this when I was a kid on one of those old fat pcs back in the day and I didn't even know this game came out one year before I was born, I started looking for it 6 years ago or so and couldn't find it any where and had give up. I'm so glad I found it even after I had made peace with the fact that I'd probably never find it. This game and heroes of might and magic 4 were my child hood (I know homm3 is better but my pc had updated and couldn't run my physical dvd copy of the game any more)

There was a game about protecting a princess you started of with just the princess and her knight and as you progress you find more character and of a Character dies they don't respawn and the movement was kinda like chess

There are so many RTS titles missing here, such as the entire C&C series, or Warcraft, or The Settlers, the Warhammer series also has at least one older RTS game as far as I know. Joint Task Force... . And many others already mentioned in advance. But good work for a very old game Emperor Battle for Dune, this game is a heartthrob, even though I'm more into Fantasy than Sci-Fi.

What was the name of the rts that was only in space, and you had to build structures as sectors of a ring around the planet, it was similar to starcraft in the sense that there was terran an alien race and then sort of mutants. i remember the errans had a destroyer that show arcs of lightning and the lightning spread to other ships or buildings, it was around the time submarine titans appeared. Thanks in advance. Update/Edit: Found out, it was Conquest: Frontier Wars

18:20 Ah, I remember this game. Mostly the fact that you had to sacrefice around 300 troops to kill around 10 enemy soldiers that barricaded themselves inside a building. So realistic.

There's one title I'm really missing: Total Anihilation One of the better player vs player RTS since you had the abbility to cloack buildings or your whole base, allowing more complex strategies early game

2006...old 🙂 I must be too old then. I expected things like Total Annihilation, C&C and Red Alert original series, maybe Starcraft 1, Heroes or Disciples 2, Populous 3...and even these are not old considering you could go back all the way to early 90s. Oh well.

I remember it had good graphics and there was 3 teams, red,blue and green.. red strongest unit is a black robot looking like a soviet submarine from RedAlert2, Blue strongest unit is also a robot that has an eagle head.. damn it that's all I remember.
