Really good tips. Steel Challenge is the perfect place to start out in competition shooting. Something I always hear is around the fact that it is a "competition" and so the person feels like they are a fool to go and not be "competitive." The truth is that 90% of the people going to any match are not "competitive" in the sense that they show up trying to win the whole thing. Steel Challenge in particular is a competition against yourself first and foremost. It's a great place to track your progress as you improve your skills since the stages remain the same.

I've been invited to shoot steel challenge at a local club. I've never shot for time on any range and I was leary of trying this. Your video has encouraged me to give it a try. Thank you!

I shoot 1 or 2 steel challenge a month but I'm not good. I do have a lot of fun and the people are all very nice and friendly.

1. Being a club member is expensive. 2. Ammo is expensive. 4. That's not combat. 5. I work that day. 6. I can out shoot those phonies. 7. If they're such good shooters, why do they need all that crap? 8. I'm a great shot already. I don't need to prove it. 9. I can hit a bad guy without the sights from across the room. I don't need to be better. 10. There is no competitions where I live. Did I miss any of those excuses?

Okay but to actually be fair. There aren’t any matches where I live. 😂😂 I’m driving out about an hour and 15 minutes round trip to get to the closest steel challenge.

@@JamezGrimm I do at LEAST one and a half hours round trip for ANY matches I shoot, IDPA, USPSA, or Steel Challenge. Several matches are even further. It's STILL fun!

I really like that you add your camera/lens equipment in your info. Thanks.

Totally agree! When I started out, I never expected to win my early matches. That helped take the pressure off me so I can focus on my shooting though it was still slow. I also appreciated the tips and pointers more experienced shooters gave me which I took to heart. In this sport (based on my experience), shooters are perhaps the humblest folks I have ever met. They are not very selfish in sharing their style to tyros. They never put beginners down.

My first season, I got last place in every match but I didn’t care and nobody laughed at me. People gave me tips from a place of helpfulness. I’m now in my 4th season and I no longer get last place.

Can you compete if you don't have supercool wraparound sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a sleeve tattoo?

You don’t need the sunglasses or the hat but the sleeve tattoo is a requirement.

I cannot participate because I do not have any tattoos and I own a razor.

Well, I made this sort of smartass comment a year ago. Since then, I've competed in several matches and I can tell you it's one of the coolest things I've done and the people are great!

You need five mags for your gun. Or at least 3 high capacity mags. But 5 is best.
