been playing digimon cyber sleuth since I got it during black friday. I LOVE it. I've been tired of pokemon for so long and looking for something new and this is an amazing replacement for it. Still have to get through hacker's memory and I still have cyber sleuth in it to get through all in one.

I honestly think Ni No Kuni is extremely hard to recommend. Its a game where theres obviously a lot of love put into it by the creators, but its got so many flaws that it can be a right pain to struggle through to the end. The game starts out very strong with so much potential but it falls apart after the halfway mark.

I bought my Switch mainly for Animal Crossing and BotW, but what's exciting me most these days is the ability to play so many older JRPG titles that I've never really had access to before. A lot of these were already on my wishlist, but now I've added a few more. Also, this vid reminded me that I need to actually play my Vita version of Trails of Cold Steel. I started it and then forgot about it.

It feels wonderful having some of the greatest JRPGs on the Switch, but we need even more. Dragon Quest 8, Lunar (it’s on mobile), the 16 bit Final Fantasy collection, all on cartridge of course, or is that just being greedy? Grave Splendour Well, if you’re talking Vita, let’s get Persona 4 Golden on Switch which will go nicely with Persona 5 Scramble, SMT III Nocturne and V next year. With the plethora of back compat PS1/PSP games on Vita and DS/3DS games, I don’t think I can ever let them go.

Dragon Quest 11, Ys 8, Xenoblade 1 and 2 were all so much fun! Those are among my top 5 favorite games on switch. Currently working on tales of Vesperia and planning on starting Ni No Kuni afterward!

A couple bite-sized jrpgs i can recommend are Saturday Morning RPG and Evoland. Both sport some unique mechanics, and play strongly around the concept of nostalgia. Not the best in their genre and subgenres, but overly unique in presentation and, as mentioned, heavy nostalgia trip.

Bug Fables is such an overlooked game. It is so so fun and difficult. don't let it's paper mario aesthetic take away from the nightmare that is the side quests.

My only problem with octopath traveler is that the characters never become more than just ppl traveling together. I have more than 50 hours in that game. And you barely see any interactions with the characters

Star Ocean: First Departure R, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Alliance Alive HD, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Secret of Mana Collection, Paper Mario: Origami King (it counts, imo), Valkyria Chronicles 1, Ys 9, Ys Origin, the Disgaea series, Shiren the Wanderer 5, Shin Megami Tensei 3, and Rune Factory 4 have been shockingly omitted. That's without even getting into upcoming games e.g. Bravely Default 2, Shin Megami Tensei 5, Rune Factory 5, and probably a whole bunch of unannounced stuff. EDIT: Oh, you said you were leaving SRPGs out. That explains some of the omissions.

The devs announced they want to make DQ12 an action title. No command menus. Square wasnt content just ruining Final Fantasy as a series, I guess.

@@KAvanAlten Subscribers doesnt mean much. And 7 Remake is kept alive by nostalgia, not gameplay. These games will be buried and forgotten in a small span of years, while people still cherish the classics before changing genres. In the classic RPG category, they are special. Otherwise, they are just another on the huge heap of not-so-special action games. Final Fantasy is NOT as popular as it once was. Other then remake (which has ALOT of nostalgia going for it, and isnt really a pure action game but a hybrid) only dedicated fanboys defend these titles as special. But most would rather they return to classic form. When a 16 bit game like Octopath Traveler gives a huge budget game like 15 a run for a its money in sales, and is STLL more spoken of today then the latter, well..... Yeah, they are trading classics for quick cash. Action games do sell more, but are quickly abandoned and forgotten with time. While a classic style well made RPG is practically immortal.

This video alone proves that it’s astonishing that the switch has been out for about 3 years now, and that now more than 100+ RPG’s ranging from western & Asian RPG’s, to mobile RPG’s, to classic retro RPG games remastered for switch (FF7 remastered, Tales of Vesperia, Ys origins, Disgaea 5,4 & 1 complete, Xenoblade DE, Grandia HD, Dragon Quest 1+2+3, Atelier Arland DX..etc.) Whereas during the WiiU/3DS family of systems, we lacked a lot of RPG’s that just ended up being Japanese only releases or never on the platforms to begin with.

I did not know The Last Remnant was on switch. I beat the original X box 360 version and loved it. Yes the og console version was brutally difficult and unforgiving but once you learned how to use the battle system and build an effective team it was so much fun to overcome the marathon battles and difficult bosses. I'll be getting this one again, hope they didn't dumb down the revamped version too much.

Over lockdown in the UK I had quite a bit of time off from work so finished off atelier ryza, shining force resonance and put 60 hours in xenoblade chronicles definitive edition. Then recently did trails of mana. Just started cosmicstar heroine

Here are some great JRPGs for those who are craving for more options: Shining Resonance A solid tales like jrpg for those who wants to scratch tales series lackness itch on switch. It is more anime trope-y for those who prefer.. thicker plots. Disgaea 4 & 5 Over the top sjrpg with ridiculous.. everything if that even makes sense. Fun characters, fun combat, lil bit too grindy, but yeah still a solid pick for long time fans. Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk Very very solid dungeon crawler with deep party building system and intriguing story. Has disgaea vibe, because.. you know, NIS. Mistover Perma death, dungeon crawling jrpg with hunger and illumination management system. Very etrian odyssey like, but roguelike. Good atmosphere building. Launched with many issues, but most of them are already patched so..

I have an important question! I loved the jrpgs of the ps1. Where did they go!? Why werent new ones made for the ps2? Is there a system after the ps1 on which theres more JRPGs? Xenogears, cronocross, legend of Mana, valkrye profile, grandia, wild arms, legend of legaia, suikoden...and even the 4 FF games that came out within two years of each other...why did these types of games stop?? Am I missing something??

@@inandoutoftheabyss9953 xenoblade is made by the same people as xenogears and was included in this video (they also made xenosaga on ps2), trials of mana (also mentioned) is the latest mana game released even if it's a remake of an snes game. Grandia was probably never popular enough for gamearts to consider any sequel after 2 (even tho they're still re-releasing 1&2), wild arms did make it to a 5th entry on the ps2 which didn't sell well. Suikoden 5 was the last numbered suikoden on ps2 and it also performed poorly. Chrono cross was so bad it practically killed any chance of it getting a new sequel and valkyrie profile only got a sequel, a spinoff and a mobile game. Similar situations also happened to the star ocean series, the lunar series and breath of fire. turn-based JRPG series don't tend to last long unless they're pokemon, FF, dragon quest or atelier.

CrossCode is easily the best RPG I've ever played and is pretty much a JRPG in every regard except for the action combat.

EXCELLENT list, but you left out one of the best...Sega Ages Phantasy Star, and the only gripes that I have with the Dragon Quest 1-3 remakes are that they left out the opening cinematics from the previous versions of the games and the English translation kind of sucks.

dq11 for me is the best game i ever player... turn based rpg are my favorite games but the story of dq11 the character and the gameplay/quests are amazing played it twice now and in some years i will play it a third time for sure. second is ffx was my fav game until i played dq11 but ffx will always have a special place.

I'd say Shadows of Adam was a decent RPG. Not quite a classic, but a good, cheap choice for a quick blast of old-school gameplay. Same for Cosmic Star Heroine.

Rune Factory isn’t a JRPG. We’ll add it to the Action RPG or Farming/Life Sim list we have planned. Earthlock could have been added. It was in our old list but I decided to cut it

lol now if only these were all on sale right now. I have been playing World of Final Fantasy on my PS4 got it a long time ago but it came out the same time as another game I was playing but have been enjoying playing it now and lol my wife watched me play it yesterday and bought it on the eshop. Only game of those I played that were on here I did not like was Ni no Kuni. I heard a lot of praise for it but was not fan of the little I played of it. Hoping FE Tokyo goes on sales soon maybe around Black Friday or something I love Fire Emblem so would be great to get it.

You missed Sword Art Online. I loved Ys Viii Lacrimosa of Dana the rest of those J-RPGs I find it difficult to get interested. I played through, rather force myself through Xenoblade Chronicles 2, It took too long to really start getting good so I do not recommend it to anyone. Ys Viii Lacrimosa of Dana I always recommend however, it is beautiful and the combat is so free flowing.
