- Apple Notes (ok, only for apple users … i know, but i like it) - Monday for project management - Apple Reminders (see above) as task manager (i don‘t like overcomplicated tasks) - Instapaper for Webclipping - Xmind for mindmapping - Google workspace apps … much underrated for project management, imho For note taking, i also tried craft. It has a lot of potential, but as an apple user i prefer the seamless integration and quick accessability of the native apps and came back to them after trying lots of others. Most of the 3rd party apps where too over complex for my use. I learned to find as much as possible cloud based apps that can be easily combined together by using buildt-in API, so the more special apps are the more difficult it is to connect them easily.
I really enjoy using Notion for the aesthetics , but for someone who looking for a more simple alternative I recommend full Google bundle drive, task, keep, calendar
@@CarloDominioni google hires some of the smartest mofos on planet, meanwhile Notion hires people who can't even make a proper android app, so you make your choice who do you trust more to not look into your notes
People Underestimate the True power of Google Workspace ecosystem 1. KEEP IT 2. TASK 3. Drive 4.Gmail 5.doc , sheets ,meet ( not a big Fan ) Pros - Simple , Deep integration with andriod , Almost all people use it but use only 10 % out of it Cons - drive have only 15gb , limited functionality of Apps on the Android , (Web app is way better )
I think Google apps or OfficeSuite apps aren’t underrated- just not for everyone. For work teams they’ll always be the standard. For personal , I think Notion and digital planners and other propriety software just allow people to work with their creative brains better. And apps like Google Keep and Tasks have a long way to go imo before being great. That said, I think Google Calendar, Google Sheets and Apple Notes are excellent tools used together and would advocate everyone try out at least Google Calendar
I have OneNote and (for now) Evernote for heavy notetaking and management. I found Notion to be overly complicated for what I want to do. I like Google Keep for quick notes, but there's no text formatting after all these years. I found Upnote as an Evernote alternative and I like it for daily use. Evernote is struggling and I may let go of the subscription when it comes up for renewal.
Agree! I’ve tried nearly all the apps you mentioned. Onenote for work (powerful, but visually overwhelming), Evernote and Google Keep for my personal (which I loved while using them, but they were just lacking one way or another), and Notion and Obsidian. I use Apple Notes now but if I went back to my PC I’d probably try out UpNote or go back to Evernote.
I’ve been doing some research on these apps. For ideas and formal learning I like Obsidian because of simplicity, robustness and privacy, also works surprisingly well with Apple Pencil. For free flowing note taking I am looking at Notability, easy to use and nice templates, and Element note, good for those who like pretty notes. Notion promises to be great for productivity but feels like it is desktop first, note taking with Apple Pencil did not feel natural. Canva didn’t do it for me. Poor iPad support and not for productivity.
I use Obsidian because I do not need a net connection. It has no shortage of templates and more than 800 plugins. If users can't be happy with this vast list of options, go back to pencils and notebooks. Great take on Notion alternatives.
Google Keep is still the best imo for basic things. I just wish you add more options for organizing things. For wikipedia style directories and storing knowledge, I think Obsidian is the best. It's everything you could want and completely free.
I like google keep, but I dont think it works very well with a small team. Last time I tried it you could not make a team section you had to add people to every card.
I watched the video because I like looking around for alternative note-taking apps. But I stick with Notion, as long as it stays free for personal use. Not perfect; it can definitely be improved, but way better than Evernote (for me).
Hey Scott, great video. I love what you are putting out there. Keep up the great work. In you opinion what is the best collaboration app for a small group that is starting up. Or for a not for profit group that want to collaborate notes, ideas, plans etc but try to avoid the extra costs of per month per person. I get that lots of these great apps need to make money. But for group starting out what would you use to get you started when $ is tight but effective collaboration is important.
Among those on this list, Trello is probably your best option if you'd like to stay free and easy adoption is critical. Just note, that the free version will limit you to 10 boards. But that might be more than enough for the types of groups you're talking about. I hope that helps!
Notion is a brilliant app, but it requires way too much fiddling for my purposes and sensibilities. That's why I like Walling better. I call it Notion with training wheels, although that belies the sophistication of its design.
Walling looks interessing, but for personal use to restricted. I'm looking for a non-cloud, local note-taking app for Windows and sync to Android, with features like Walling, Notion. But can't find anything.
Does anyone know of an app that allows you to edit text in the same way notion does (aka holding and dragging a block of text around)? That is the only feature that I really care about (it making writing on a phone a lot easier ) at it seems to be really hard to search for.
I have Tens of Thousands of entries in Notion. Now Hundreds of my entries have been thrown (inexplicably) into the Trash and continue to go there. And i can only retrieve them one by one!!! It's a year later, and I'm getting no help from Notion after repeated requests. And the trashing of my content is ongoing/
Notion has a lot of great features but it is NOT simple to use and you have to customize way too much to use it. We started using it at our company and everyone hates it.
For me, if you are required to be online, forget it. Not usable for those who might not always have a net connection. Notion is great, but useless for me.
Why do you hate Notion? Evernote seems to be a bit outdated and never worked for me even though I've been using it from day 1. Notion can do everything you showed in Walling.
