Thanks for the book references. I have, and I like the Ian Roberts book on composition. Another book for beginners would be "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. It explains the process of how to see objects as they are instead of symbols that you mind wants to see. I found this book very enlightening for me when I was starting out. It is also on Amazon.
Composition discussion! Love it. I would add Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter by Gurney. I find it to be a cheat sheet when I’m stuck on a problem. They’re one to two page notes on solving different issues that pop up.
Great suggestion! I love that book, such a great resource. I thought about including that one. That is what I like about it too, easy to flip to a specific page and find a solution. Gurney is a guy who would be fun to hang out with for a day and soak up the knowledge
