I joined a beginner guitar group and gradually people have been dropping off. The interesting observation is that the ones to give up playing guitar are the ones who had the desire to be Van Halen or Slash. The ones who stayed have all just wanted to enjoy playing music. I think if you set your goals too high then the climb to get there can be too steep.
Good points! The thing is, you can set the goal as high as you want, but without having smaller goals that lead to that biggest goal, most people are likely to be discouraged and quit.
I must say that even though I have played the guitar for over 30 years that your videos Erich has helped me IMMENSELY in developing my technique and making me a much better player!!!
Thanks so much for what you do. I'm just getting started on your minimalist blues course and already a couple of concepts have just clicked after years of not getting it.
Good lesson, but I'm confused about #5. Can you do a video about how to mute with the fretting hand, especially with the fingers curled. I can curl fine but I get unwanted strings ringing out.
There is always room for improvement. The fundamentals apply across all human endeavors. Why else do professional athletes, painters, musicians, etc... continue to practice regularly? It comes down to a dedication to your craft. Failure and then rewards are inherently part of the process. Courage to fail, a willingness to press forward, and gain the needed skills will develop one's ability and character. Stay strong!
Hi there, I am an advanced beginner and play almost every day. However, I only strum chords to different songs (open and bar chords). It's fun but I feel like it's time for the next step. Unfortunately, I know what that step is. I've also been practicing pentatonics, which I'm sure makes some sense, but I don't know how to use them. it's a kind of daily routine that could take me further?

Ron, thank you for the kind words, my friend. This is what I know for sure, not practicing will never get you to the status of Randy. Practice is the only thing that will do it. Ask any expert and they will always tell you it is only about practice.
