Make sure you have a good set of paper maps. When doomsday comes, all of the GPS devices are going to be useless. (I’m only pointing this out because the channel is called “Prepper Gear”.) 😊

Was this a Garmin commercial. In the 66i video I twice heard "no subscription fees". Please explain bc Garmin charges you a hefty fee to use these handhelds.

wifi. you pre download things. its the "i" option inreach part you need a subscription

You only need a subscription to use the inreach SOS feature, which should be obvious. You don’t need a subscription to use the gps. That’s ridiculous.

I'd go for the 66i. You can pay for city maps and get maps, but also have the outdoor navigation options. Plus if you want the SOS feature and text communication on a Garmin navigation device, this is the only with both

The best parts of the 66 but with a battery situation that will allow it to work for decades. To me the AA batteries alone add such little headache for such tremendous long term benefit.

Pretty sure the satellites would be safe for a good while, unless some country starts blasting them out of orbit? The non-subscriptions devices would still be working. And I’m sure the military would make sure all major services of this type would be working for themselves. Which some of these run on. But yeah have a map & compass as backup always!
