Saskatoon is #1 for me and I'm from Regina. I recently lived a full year right downtown with buses as my only transportation. The disparity in wealth and all that involves is obvious but you are under no threat walking the streets at anytime. Saskatoon is beautiful and it is very well managed

I moved from B.C. to Yorkton a year and a half ago and I really enjoy the small town vibe here. It has all the stores that I need and the housing is definitely affordable! I especially like the fact that I don’t see street people camped out in the front of businesses and lining the sidewalks and parks.

Lots of nice places in southern Saskatchewan. The Cypress Hills are probably the most beautiful part of Saskatchewan and the surrounding area has cropland, prairie grassland with sage and cactus, and in places are badlands and buttes that look amazing. And southeastern Saskatchewan (like around Moosomin) is in the aspen parkland region with a lot of groves of poplars and Moose Mountain is near there. Amazing what you’ll find if you don’t travel only on Highway 1.

I live in Moosejaw ,Initially I was impressed but have watched the city deteriorate over the last 25 years. I can only describe city management as one of contempt! WE have 3rd world pavement that is constantly dug up and then eventually covered over with some random plops of cold fill. Repairs get left for months and even years! There is no thought to evaluate economically or practically ...paint street lines in October, paving before digging, whole areas of town where you cant read the street signs because the letters have fallen off. And the daily frustration of the traffic lights that are arranged by someone who must hate us! I could go on but the suspicion is that money is going somewhere it shouldn't go!

I grew up in Melville. Great place! It’s only 30 mins to Yorkton and an hour and 15 to Regina. 30 minutes to can get to the Qu’Appelle Valley which is the hidden gem of the province. Rolling green hills, lakes rivers. Great cabin life. I’ve been to every major town city in Saskatchewan many times as one does playing youth through junior hockey. Estevan is not a good city. Poor air quality from coal mine leaves the snow blackened. Right on US border with tons of drug trade. Melville is a major CNR terminal town with high paying unionized jobs. Should be in top 3 in province. Another nice little town is Nipawin. Great hockey community, entering into forest line. Fantastic winters with tons of snow, great fishing and hunting , only an hour from Prince Albert and a bit further to Saskatoon. Kindersley should also make the list.

The split between the haves and the have nots in Saskatchewan is whether you can afford your own vehicle or have to take public transit. Saskatchewan is famous for having low wages...unless you're on the public teat, working for municipal , provincial or federal gov't, where being a janitor would pay more than working three part time jobs. You gotta get on the teat!

All those communities are similar in cost and all have opportunities for a tradesman or practicing professional to get set up in a business. what may sway that person to choose a community may hinge on opportunities for the spouse, education opportunities for their kids (1st year college), or recreation for the whole family ie water sports nearby. A few years ago I was involved in physician recruitment to a rural community. These other factors were the key to the successful recruitment of both a foreign trained doctor and a nurse practitioner. I like the Wood Mountain uplands and Willow Bunch but I have interests.

Nobody has any money in Saskatchewan...what I mean by that is nobody wants to pay anybody else what they're worth. That's why many small businesses come and go all the time. When I lived there, I used to joke with my friends that the coupon was the official currency of Saskatchewan because nobody would buy anything without a coupon. We are talking E.T. ...people who are Extra Tight with their money...and who employ all kinds of eking strategies like collecting rags and trading them in for a can, and then once you have ten cans you can trade them for a coupon. That's the mindset. Many people have to get by with two part time jobs, and a monthly bag of groceries from their parents, plus their twelve year old car. A mechanic friend, who was a buyer and seller of VW cars , used to go to Calgary where no one wanted a ten year old VW so they were cheap. And then he would bring them to Saskatoon where people would fight over them...and of course, offer to make payments. I'm glad I left and I don't miss Saskatoon one bit! Their cheap grinch like mindset is holding them all back.

Thanks for the video. I just turned 60, live in Switzerland and am starting to think about where I can spend my retirement. The cost of living here in Switzerland is so extremely high that I will not be able to afford to live here beyond retirement. That is why I am now looking for alternatives. I'm a small-town person, have lived in small towns or villages all my life. But I don't want to live somewhere far away from everything either. There should be shopping facilities nearby, but I don't like big cities. So maybe such small towns are an alternative for me. But I am still at the beginning and collect information little by little.

@jb-vz4wb
@jb-vz4wb 10 месяцев назад
BC has the warmest weather, beautiful mountains and divwrse scenery. There is affordable real estate far away from the major centers, a con to moving there would be very high taxes. Also another con is full of annoying stoners 😂. Alberta has the lowest taxes, affordable the farther you get away from Calgary usually, some parts of the province have warmer than normal winter weather (read about chinooks). Saskatchewan is full of friendly people, cheap rural housing, nice scenery and outdoors depending on where you live. The maritime provinces are good too, friendly people, but I heard they have a humid kind of cold, in the western provinces it is generally dryer, so you dont have the same feeling of extreme heat or cold.

Moosomin Sucks, right to the ND Border the people are mostly related, forget about getting a job, Nepotism runs ramped and this goes for almost EVERY small town, these people DO NOT welcome you to their town, they talk behind your back and are VERY NOSEY worse than the big cities, too many chemicals, sure they smile at you but would never help you. I know because I live on a small acreage tractor broke down and I had contracted Lyme Disease, tried to do the work, fell and hurt my shoulder needed rotator cup surgery 9 months of Physio NOT ONE PERSON came to help me, got Lyme disease I was happy when animal activists from Brandon took my 2 goats, chickens and one cow, I was happy Moved to Brandon in an apt. there I had great neighbors and therapists, now I am working out at a local Gym slowly but surely I will get back to me...stay away from Southeast Sask.

Medical care is terrible in Saskatchewan, I know because I live there. I had better medical care when I lived in the Dominican Republic. Be prepared to change family doctors every year because Doctors don't stay in Saskatchewan, they are all foreign doctors doing there time before being able to work in larger metropolitan areas of Canada. Also. you have to drive to a major city like Saskatoon or Regina to get CAT scans, MRI's, ultrasounds or for specialists. People here won't help you either unless you are a homesteader family that has lived here all your life. They'll be polite and courteous but don't expect them to welcome you into the fold. Been here 10 years and I haven't once been asked to a BBQ, dinner or card game when they have functions with friends. They are also very very racist especially towards aboriginals.

I’ve worked and stayed in all but Saskatoon and have visited Saskatoon a few times. My question is, if these places are the best, which ones are the worst??!!?? These places are like something out of a William Faulkner novel. Unfriendly, no services available, HORRIBLE restaurants, overpriced hotels. The locals are basically functionally retarded. There’s nothing to do or see unless you enjoy hockey or bottom of the barrel MMA events. Good Lord! I tried to just let this go, but you could ruin someone’s life if you encourage them to move to one of these places!

Maybe many of us aren't children living in an adult's body and are capable of socializing with others and being busy an engaged without having this provided for you. Stay in the big city where your parents, the government, keep you safe and provided for.

I agree, and I was pretty much born here. Lived in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Vancouver, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon and some small SK towns as well. The culture here is non-existent. Theatre sucks!!! Music sucks!!! It's laughable, if it weren't so painful. The thing I did like is that I could raise a child here. We would go to the dentist, shopping, two play dates, all in one day. Had friends with cottages. Friends with kids!! That was the best part. And lost of sports for kids. I would never raise a child in the cities previously mentioned in AB, BC.
