My favorite design is Metatron. As there are theories that state that Metatron was once a human named Enoch, making him robotic and rather "man made" was a hint towards this theory. This also makes him stand out from the more natural/traditional looking angels. Especially when compared to the main 4 archangels.
While angelic Lucifer goes incredibly hard, I’m way too partial towards the SMT I(?) design of his human form in the suit, with half angelic wings and half demonic, so so so cool
A personal favorite of mine when I first saw it was Maria (apparently the form I’m talking about is her battle form). It was just such a different design than what I was expecting that I fell in love with it pretty quickly. Also, I quickly grew to love the Loup-garou because I was not expecting to see a French werewolf.
@@Tony4You Senpai noticed me! 🤩😁 Anyways I really only like Mothman because of how freaking cute he is. Easily the cutest demon design in SMT, even if it's not accurate at all to the source material.
hell yeah, smt 2 II lucifer is a stellar design. I don't have an organized list but hes definitely up there with the school jack frost from if and smt iv's ba'al
Deity Horus!!!! that thing makes me so happy every time I see it. It’s a glowing bird freakin super cute. I don’t know why they made him look like that, but it always makes me happy to see him
my favorite designs handily go to : 3- Atavaka, a color swap but the sheer beauty of it is amazing. 2- Metatron, for all the obvious and unobvious reasons. 1- Vishnu, im biased he's my favorite god and to see him properly recreated(for the most part) in smt 3 and 5 makes me feel pure joy.
One of my current favorites has got to be Hastur. I'm not even that familiar with the Lovecraft mythos, but it's apparently a rather faithful design: A black, shriveled, flying monstrosity with tentacles tipped with razor-sharp talons that can pierce a victim's skull and siphon out the brain.
I really like it how that YHVH's second form is also a serpent with a lion mane, signifying that he's like the Demiurge. He may be god, but he is not the true god.
In no particular order I'd say my 5 favorite are: Lailah Chernobog (Soul Hackers design) Kikuri-Hime (Nocturne design) Yurlungur (Devil Summoner design) This is the only one I feel the need to elaborate on, I just think it's a funny design. Halphas
I don't always agree 100% on lists, but man, this one I absolutely agree with. As cool as the appearance of Yaldy was in P5, the OG Demiurge will always be my favourite. Awesome vid as always, Tony4You!!
Totally get why you don't like that one Lucifer design, but I think it's so off putting its actually awesome. Looks like one of the gray aliens depicted in popular culture taken to an extreme degree. Sooooo creepy and evil looking, with the dead eyes and clawed hands, but dressed in gold. Kinda regal.
I really like the older angel design and I think it reflects most humans perception of angels rather than their true nature. Their chains and blindfolds reflect their non-existent will and their dedication to follow the commands of god. The clothe that wraps around them and their nakedness reflect the human depiction of angels’ attractiveness. The blonde hair, white skin, and blue color of the blindfold with the eye symbol, reflect the western/European influence on Christianity and Abrahamic beliefs.
*Gabriel during Mary's pregnancy -* Sweet and caring, making sure Mary and Joseph are both safe and comfy with her presence. *Gabriel when the Nephilim exist -* _DOOM Eternal OST blasting at max volume._
My favorite SMT Demons: 5: Huang Long 4: Amon Ra/Amon 3: Messiah(the design from Persona, specifically its Picaro form) 2: Lucifer(SMT 2 Angel/Demon design, SMT IV Apocalypse design) 1: Shiva, Satan(original and Apocalypse) and Metatron(they're tied). Off topic, but I'd love to see a redesigning of the Messiah design for the SMT mainline series so that we can finally add the guy to our party, since Maria has now become an available unit for us to get after so many years.
Yeah, yeah! You know what, the designs of Orpheus, Messiah, and perhaps even Thanatos make me think about how they could be depicted as general Megami Tensei démons!
Biblically all come from the Seth, being Noah. The Babylonians come from Nimrod who suppose to be Gilamesh. Nimrod is the son of Ham. The Israelites are from the line Shem followed through Abraham so on and so forth. Just wanted to make that distinction clear. All of Cains people where wiped out during the flood
Was certainly not expecting to see Demiurge in here based on how different they look from the original, but your explanation made me see why you would pick them nonetheless. Overall this list seems very fitting, based on the content you feature in the channel.
Yeah Demiurge has always been one of my favorites and learning more about him only made me love him more. I'm glad most regular viewers could anticipate what was going to be on the list too lol
“Oh no it’s the Law monster!” “YEEEAAAHHH I LOVE THE LORD!” But seriously, law demons consistently have some of the strongest designs in the series, but that’s not to say other demons like Baal, Asura, and Beelzebub aren’t top tier either! I think Shiva (specifically his later appearances after SMT 1) is another example like Mother Harlot where Kaneko took almost no creative liberties in the artistic design. Instead he took it from established art and depictions. However, enough personality shines through the lord of dance’s pose, facial expression, and animations in game it has made him an SMT staple. SMT V specifically did him so much justice with that boss fight.
Honestly the designs of the lower rung of demons are the ones that appeal to me the most. When I think of SMT, Pixie, Slime, Angel, Mokoi, Jack Frost, Moh Shuvuu, Shiki-Ouji and others are usually the first ones to come to mind, and while it's undeniable that the bigger figures in these games are all memorable in their own right, the simpler designs of the simpler creatures are what stick with me and really makes me appreciate the boundless creativity these artists have.
It's so sad we haven't seen for a long time Louis Cyphre. I wish that he was in some new Persona game as Star social link, and maximizing it would give access to Helel. That would be so cool.
@@Tony4You when i was playing SMTII i went with Chaos route and was shocked how caring Lucifer is towards Aleph. After Astaroth attacked Aleph Louis actually worried about Aleph and asked if he hurt, man that hit hard. At this moment i realized that i did right choice of alignment.
My Top 5 for best designed are, 1. Uriel (original) 2. Metatron 3. Ancient of Days 4. Power (Squid Knight version) 5. Kresnik Kresnik is kinda the odd one out but his cool lore and Castlevania like design made him stand out to me.
I actually like Mithra's design in SMT. I don't know why, but he seems to be a helluva based guy to worship and stuff. And, mind I tell you, in Pelevin's "Empire V" Mithra's avatar straight up wins a love poem contest between him and Rama, making quite a decent love letter to Gera. This proves you should never challenge Mithra to a battle. Never know what to expect from an ancient Persian Deity. (even though in the book they are Vampiers)
I don't really dig deep into the lore of the demons outside of the info given in Megaten games but your videos are so insightful & always give me more appreciation for the artistic liberties & the accuracies they take with the demon designs. So this is my top 5 favorites from a design standpoint (this was so hard to make) 5 - Camael 4 - Susano-o (Soul Hackers) 3 - Futsunushi 2 - Chernobog 1 - Masakado yeah I really like swords & warriors as yall can see.
1.Shiva 2.Demiurge 3.Mother Harlot 4.Norn 5.Ardha 6.Satan smt 4a 7.Maria 8.Prettry much all Jack Frost varients 9.Mahamayuri 10. Khonsu After playing smt 5 and dds 2, Shiva is number 1 IMO. Those two fights really seminted myself as the god of destruction, especially in 5 because he is harder than the final boss. My design is accurate to the source material, he is consistently a powerful and reliable member and easy to fuse usually (Rangda and Barong) and his idol and attack animations make him very memorable.
Amazing list and interesting lore too. Learned something. My list however - based on design and like will be 1 - Lucifer (yep, same) 2 - Demiurge 3 - Baal 4 - Odin (particularly with his crow - which has deep a significance I'm sure) 5 - Demeter/Idun
This was a great video as always! I agree with everything here! Here's my top 5 Lucifer (battle form) -SMT 3 Zeus - SMT 5 Minotaur - SMT 4 Thor- SMT 1 Jubokko- Soulless Army
Out of all of these demons, the only one I have a real fondess for is Clotho. Purely because of the 2nd Devil Children Anime. In which she is an incredibly sweet sewing teacher, who is trying to run away from her past as a member of The Imperium. That ran away when she finally noticed all of the carnage she was leaving behind. She is incredibly ashamed of her destructive power, but when her students are in danger. She doesn't hesitate to use them.
@@Tony4You Its basically a Shounen Isekai adventure series. But its still pretty cool to see the Devil Children Demons in motion. Though at the same time... SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT The series ends on an incredibly diappointing cliffhanger ending that was never picked up.
@@statesminds I think my reply disappeared so here its again just in case. There is a Dailymotion channel that has a good chunk of the episodes, but from 9 to 20-ish are missing. There used to be a channel here that had the missing episodes. But I have NO clue if its still here.
Ongyo-Ki is my favorite demon based on purely design. Unfortunately there isn't a lot to go on for really any of the Oni from Nocturne, but most of them are pretty cool as well.
I'll have to say my favorites at the moment where the SMT4 Design of the archangels. Those interpretations of the designs really back the the whole "Be not afraid" aspect of angels who to us are truly out there in appearance and understanding. It also helps with the idea that many demons and gods were once angels in heaven in some interpretations, with these partically demonic looking angels serving as reminders that all those beings were once the same.
Law for life huh? Well you do you. . .I guess (This all being said SMTV's law is my favorite ending so I can't really be talking ha). Although I do agree with your picks I would replace some. Not saying there bad but maybe I'm just weird for wanting the artist to extend past just what sources they have. M.H is a splendid design and currently my strongest demon in Dx2 but I could see her being interchangeable with someone like Merkabah. SMTIV really did wonders on making angels more demonic based on the whole "Do Not be afraid" schtick. So Merkabah can go there if not for the fact the there is almost no basis to the complexity of the design. On the topic of Femme, Lady, Megami Demons etc. Cleopatra is a new and to be honest basic design depicting a beautiful Egyptian pharaoh but maybe she could in the top 10 if she displayed a more oppressive nature. SMTV dlc doesn't do half the justice smt4a did and having your friend kidnapped and almost killed for her nose just so a goddess can be as beautiful as she can be just radiates this . . .If your familiar with the story of mosses it makes me feel like Cleo is similar if not the same as pharaoh after he lets the Jews go he reconsidered just because. maybe it was out of vengeance for his son's death maybe not, but that's just the vibe I get from Cleo and she presents herself like she could beat YHVH with a dedicated group of followers. Some other picks though are Beelzebub especially after the whole Scooby dobby doo where are you? situation in SMTV although in this case it would be probably Beezy Bubble boo? Masakado solely because of the anime Tokyo Revelation. I would recommend it but . . . Kind of rated R and rightly so. Shiva, Vauski, and Vishnu are kind of biased but their just fan favorites to have around till end game. but if I had to put for favorite call me a simp but Sarasvati is my favorite demon. Reminds me of Demyx from KH plus fighting with a guitar is the ultimate flex. Lastly second would probole be Medusa Love her skeleton design and that its not just a woman with snakes for hair although its weird that they used skeletons to depict most of the design? Maybe its me am I missing something from her lore? Anyways sorry for the long comment if anyone actually read this far.
It's a very nice choice, while I don't have particular list for my fav SMT demons, SMT IV Minotaur is easily one of the most creative rendition of what a Minotaur is Like, you see the bull's head, goes to its nose only to realize it was skull head and the bull's leg turn into human biceps. If it's not brilliant, I don't know what that is I also love Mastema, Vairocana, Koga Saburo and the fan favorite, Beelzebub fly version
3 of the 5 demons usually represent chaos ingame so I wouldn't really say that it's law bias, sure they are related to law in some way of another. SMT4A an SMT5 Odin is probably my favorite, it looks super cool while also having good references, like the eye and the crow.
My favorite angel design is Metatron, and my favorite demon design is (spoilers) Awake Jimenez. Although if we're not counting human alignment reps, then my favorite demon design would be Fafnir.
If I was picking a favorite based on design, I would say it's a tie between Beelzebub and Ba'al (the SMT V designs not sure which game the designs originated from). Ba'als regal and lordly design is so perfect, especially when put next to Beelzebub, the monster that he is now known as, taking Lord of the Flies to it's most literal level.
My top 5 demons would be: 1. Mastema 2. Vetala. 3. ErlKonig. 4. Hua Po. 5. The Moirae sisters. ErlKonig is especially close to me since my grandparents bought placemats of Schwarzwald when they visited that forest, it's stupid to hold such a dumb old placemat so close to my heart but after seeing that thing for half my life i can"t help but like it
Are you a Christian of any kind which influences your preference to Law/ abrhamic demons or are you just a law-fiend? Off the top of my head some of my favorite demons are: Gabriel Trumpeter Succubus Norn Cybele
My all time fave goes to Yoshitsune a Japanese warrior the design is superb by the time i saw from a RU-vid video im like wow that’s one of the best alongside metatron, michael, sandalphon, lucifer, cybele, mot, thor, fafnir
I don't think I have a favorite design, they're all good on their own way (at least for the most part), though I like Ishtar from Giten and her DeSum design, these two capture how beautiful Ishtar is, in my opinion at least. The DeSum design is slightly better in my opinion tho
I love The 2d art they used for helel(lucifer angel form) in persona 3 and 4 it makes him even more divine and gorgeous For me my favorite demons designs are these 5. Mithra 4. Satan (kaneko design) 3. Metatron 2. Mother harlot 1. Barong and ragnda
My top 5.... 5 Bugaboo. I'm currently playing Strange Journey Redux and he is one of my favorites. Shame i'm going for Law. BAGA BOOOOOOOOOO! 4 Amon SMT 5 (version). Had no idea he existed and he just left me wanting to drop everything and get his fusion. 3 Black Frost. Hee ho. 2 Trumpeter. He really rocks that gravity defying dress. 1 Seraph. I started my first Strange Journey Redux playthrough as law for the sole purpose of using Seraph and some of the other cool Herald designs that don't seem to pop up in main stream smt games very often.
My top 3 would probably some thing along the lines of Ardha (main series design) Satan (Kaneko design) Rangda (Soul Hackers design) Mostly this comes down to the designs just being great, though I absolutely adore the idea of Satan as a Force for Order.
@@Tony4You oh. oh you certainly will regret that after gazing your sights upon the immaculate entity that is: the atma avatars of shin megami tensei digital devil saga.
The design of the four archangles in SMT IV are my favorite since of how despite modern interpretations/depictions showing Gabriel, Uriel, Michael, and Raphael as beautiful/handsome angels in the shape of humans, but are in actuality are so horrific entities that akin to the cosmic existencial horrors of H.P. Lovecraft. (That could be a nice video idea, covering the Lovecraft monsters that are present in SMT/Persona), and now I am hoping for new race that depicts modern day culture like the Hachishakusama, Sith Lord (Star Wars), Grey Aliens and UFOs.
I tend to agree. The base designs for the archangels are so boring. It's just "look at me, I'm an angel". Even metatron is just a regular angel but made of metal. That being said, I don't exactly love how they look in iv either. I think a design in the middle of the two could be really good.
So this may be a bit weird but I really dig the archangels and merkabah in smt 4. I know that compared to their old designs these new ones weren't as good but the way it just all came together was cool. Way better than the Lucifer redesign at the least. Probably around my top 10ish
The story of the Archangels' battle against the Watchers was adapted in the game El Shaddai: Rise of the Metatron, in which the titular Metatron, Enoch, was called upon to aid the Archangels in hunting down all the Watchers. It's very wacky and out there, as far as adaptations go, but it was really cool to see the various ways they played with the concept of the Watchers corrupting the mortal realm, and how the Watchers' offspring, Nephilim, were these constantly-suffering abominations that'd grow from devouring each other. Funny enough, the semi-sequel to El Shaddai, a game by Kadokawa games called The Lost Child, draws heavy inspiration from Megami Tensei, as it's a demon-collecting turn-based RPG in the same vein. Demons based on various folkores (including the characters from El Shaddai) and mythologies too, with Lovecraftian horrors playing a major role in the story. Definitely worth a buy, if you're looking for SMT alternatives.
If I were to give a top 5 favourite demons design-wise they'd be: 1. Mother Harlot- Really sticks to the back of my mind, almost gave me a weird fetish. Her design being mostly accurate to the source is a great plus too. 2.Mara- dick chariot-chan should be the mascot of SMT. Highly ridiculous and iconic. 3. Sraosha- just plain dang cool. I mean just look at him. Also him (and the other Zoroastrian deities) looking like otherworldly aliens makes me believe that the designer got himself REALLY into ME Occult stuff (as in really fringe out-there theories involving Stargates and interdimensional/ space-faring aliens) that I had to respect him. 4. Ongyo-Ki- large, black imposing oni who was said to be the big daddy of ninjutsu.Dude's got the Perfect balance between cool and brute-like look. 5. Moirai- yeah they're a package deal. Heavily biased because I used to have weird dreams with them, especially Clotho when I was playing SMT3 in my teens Special mentions: Rangda and Barong (lore accurate to the play, and Rangda freaked me out a lot as a child growing up near hindu neighbours), Asherah (Hot), and Moloch (Devil Summoner version for peak nightmare fuel material.)
My top 5 demons in SMT: 1.LUCIFER true metal form SMT5 superboss design 2. YHVH true from from SMT4-A 3. SATAN merged form-SMT4-A 4. MERMAID- SMT4-A 5. ANAHITA- SMTSJR to me these are the baddest. what are your thoughts??? also law route worst route. human neutral all day everyday, i jest, good vid overall
*clasps my hands round my mouth* HYPNOS WAS THE GOD OF SLEEP, MORPHEUS WAS THE GOD OF DREAMS, AAAAAUUUGHHH Edit: also the Demiurge here technically has 12 wings if you count the 2 covering his waist. I know I'm dogging on you here and it's objectively easier to criticize than to go through the effort of making content, and I do love this channel, but I gotta outlet my nitpicking. Feel free commenters to call me a doucher. I earned it.
Baal and Beelzebub are my favorite, I love the way they are depicted in SMT. Baal being this vengeful god yearning for its glory days as the most worshiped god, just to be fucked over by YHVH and turned into Beelzebub, mirroring what christianity did to baal and his followers in real life.
My Top 5 SMT Demon Designs 5) Manananggal 4) Cu Chulainn 3) Loki 2) Alice 1) Asherah I love Manananggal's design, a spot on design to the aswang in Philippine mythology. I always fuse Cu Chulainn whenever I have the chance to do so. I remember the first time I played persona 3, this guy was super helpful and strong in the mid to late game. My top three is the blonde squad. I used these three in Apocalypse. They were useful in defeating Krishna in my first playthrough. Loki having all the -dyne spell, Alice with buffs and debuffs and insta kill, and Asherah having gun pleroma and tearing down demons with gun skills. Good Times.
Not really fan of modern Lucifer. He was supposed to be one of the most beautiful of angels (aside from Handjobiel ofc), so making him grumpy old dude just doesnt seem as fitting as his old version.
