In no order: George Chuvalo Marvin Hagler Jake Lamotta Harry Greb - In 240 bouts he was stopped only twice, once when he was outweighed, then when he suffered a broken arm. Tommy Farr - Took a Prime Joe Louis and Max Baer the full 15 rounds, only stopped 5 times in his 126 fight career, 3 of those loses when he was young and 2 when he was well past his prime..
#1 is jess willard. study the damage report from the dempsey fight & tell me anyone else in the history of the sport wouldve got past the 1st rd on the outdoor 110 degree day. when the fight was done, he endured the following before throwing in the towel in the 3rd round: broken jaw, shattered cheek bone, 2 broken ribs, missing teeth, broken nose & permantly ruptured ear drum.
I think you're forgetting Joe Grimm, a really lousy welterweight boxer in the early part of the twentieth century, who only won about 11 or so of his 150 - 500 fights. But he fought the best of his day, including former heavyweight champion, Bob Fitzsimons and future heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson. He was knocked down on average about eight times per fight but kept getting back up, and seemed impervious to pain. I don't believe he was ever stopped. He was known as "the human punching bag".
What I've noticed about people with great chins is there eye contact. Ali, Chavez, Lamotta, and Cobb always kept their eyes on their opponent even when they knew how hard their opponents punched. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to do that.
Why does not anyone list Jack Dempsey? Every time he saw a pine he chewed on it too make his jaw stronger. He put some cream thing on his face a lot too make his skin harder. Only knocked out once, but before he started doing that.
He got knocked out in round one...as much as I love Dempsey he had a suspect chin...not a weak one but he just didnt have a really strong durable one like holyfield or Frazier...strongest chins IMO is Jake LaMotta Larry Holmes and Joe Frazier
You're right Boka, but he also with stood some of the hardest shots from massive punchers like Shavers, Liston, Foreman and Cleveland Williams. Those three knockdowns would of stopped most heavyweights but Ali got up.
tyson wouldnt have stopped ali becus when tyson punched you,it was to knock you out and alot of people never got up from his punches, thats why tyson lost to buster douglas his confidence dropped becuase he couldnt put buster away.alibwould have poped back up and punished tyson
