The field may not have been the best, but Veterans Stadium was a fun place to watch a ballgame: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-78_H4O15b4A.html
Good video, very reasonable list. Personally I'd give the edge to Boone at number one because of his essential contributions to 1980 (tied that Division-clinching Montreal game in the 9th where Schmidt ended up winning it with the big HR in extras, huge factor offensively and defensively in the decisive Game 5 vs Houston, and then an excellent World Series). But you certainly nailed the top 5 overall. Nice video.
I would like to add a honorable mention for Mike Ryan who did make an all-star game in 1969. He was great in throwing out runners trying to steal but his biggest contributions to the organization were as bullpen coach and 3 World Series appearances. RIP "Irish" Mike.
This is a great video. I’d probably move Boone up a notch, but it’s so close, I can’t really quibble with such a solid list. Also nice to see Bill Killefer and Bo Díaz mentioned!
Lopata was a fine catcher. Unusual for a catcher he was fast. Nearly every season until his knees acted up he was the second or third fastest guy after Ashburn. Having seen both, and they were good friends, I’d rate he and Seminick as equals.
Great list, and Lieberthal is absolutely the right choice. Perception is everything. People perceive Dalton because the 93 team is beloved and Boone won it all. Lieby, didn't win so he's a loser to many, but numbers don't lie. Lieby is the best all around in phillies history
When I sat down to do a serious evaluation, I didn’t expect that. I seriously expected Boone to come out on top. I also didn’t expect to rank Ruiz so high, because I had remembered just how stark the contrast between the 2008 regular season and playoffs were. But Ruiz was such a solid catcher for such a good period of time.
ok, i remember seeing boonie in many games, ...he was very good, he was my favorite , but the guy who made this vid is way up on his stats, but i would say boone is #2, only because i saw how good he was, i ll admit ruiz was really good
@@PhiladelphiaBaseballHistory i hear it’s just he was so great especially defensively I think his skill set alone gets him in for me, Jt that is , I think Dutch was underrated defensively also wanted your take , I love Dutch I meant him several times even had dinner with him by chance I was a cancer survivor myself I mean I am still. Glad I found this channel die hard fan since 88 born in 80 also huge baseball fan and historian
I really got into Phil’s in 92 at 12 as bad as there they were fun to watch cause I seen the potential especially in shilling and his 2:35 or something era I knew in spring we had something with him and watching Dutch Kruk Hollins play great excited me for 93 I think me and my friends felt it be special from spring training on watched every min of every inning what a special year to be 13 and a Phil’s guy I was hooked thsbk god I got to see a title in 08 causs I was a 3 months old in 80 When they won. Too bad I think they could have won in 09,10 and especially 11 heart breaking
No. They had a great pitching staff in 1950. They had good pitchers in 1964. They had excellent pitchers from 1976 through 1983. They had a surprisingly good staff in 1993. Quite the contrary, there was a time when the Phillies had excellent pitching.
You are a nut. How on God's green earth can you put Mike Leiberthal as the best catcher the Phillies have ever had? He is so far down the list it's unbelievable. He shouldn't be on the Phillies Wall of Fame for one thing. He couldn't block a plate to save his ass. What exactly did you see in this guy. Daulton and Boone were 1 and 2 respectively. If it wasn't for Johnny Bench, Boone would've been the starting catcher in several All Star games.
@@johnny1963ify Gotcha. Hey- maybe there's more than one John Miller, too....thought I'd try, anyway !! Watch the Phillies now like me, I suppose. Enjoy- go Phils & go Birds !!🚬😎
