I am very sorry that most CPL Licences holders do not and I mean do not have enough training in firearm usage. Instructors spend a hell a of lot talking about the law and very little training of the students in their class about firearm usage and defense training procedures. I am sorry to say these instructors should have a lease a week or two training in getting to know firearms as well as defense training situations.

I've had a Mauser action 30-06 go off by itself. I was being shown by my dad how when the safety was folded all the way over the rifle can't fire. He had me pull the trigger gently showing how the safety work's.Little while later still sitting together in a box blind he was getting ready to shoot folded the safety into the fire position and it the rifle immediately went off through the tin roof. I was 8 at the time, we were both confused as to why it happened! He loved that rifle because of how extremely accurate it was, but he took it and sold it to a friend of his who was a gunsmith that next week.

if you own a p320, you may.... I'm with you though... I have never personally encountered a gun that fired itself, and such accounts are usually operator error when investigated. though the p320 does appear to be the exception.

I did see a Rem 700 fire by only operating the bolt. We reviewed the video many times and there was NOT any finger on the trip.

It's standard procedure to talk trash about Glock when Sig is probably paying or offering free ammo or something etc.. The fact is a Glock has more straightforward and effective internal safety than most other guns.. no fully precocked striker and the safety ledge requiring the trigger to move, which isn't gonna happen on its own when needing to put more tension on the striker during the pull. The last 500 rounds or so I ran on one of my G19's I didn't even realize the extractor had no spring tension on it making it hardly effective (due to RMR screw being too long trapping plunger) so I was stovepiping a lot. Despite that non functioning extractor the gun was still running whole mags at times and only failed to eject maybe 1 out of 10 shots. I was about to start trash talking the gun before realizing I was actually the dumbass and the gun was working better than it should have. Such situations where failures occur are going to be more easily spread around through the pistol owning world simply because of how many people own Glocks, and how many people take advantage of all the ways they can lego parts on their Glocks. People can be right all day if they say other guns are simply higher quality when it comes to the slide cuts or the frame design or the fitment given tolerances etc.. they start talking that real nonsense though when they start claiming Glocks are just inherently unsafe for the user and are prone to malfunction. If that were true then nobody would own any damn Glocks.

@@ranchodeluxe1 trigger discipline is one of many important parts of true marksmanship. You can have good trigger discipline but will still have AD. My biggest point is that practice makes perfect on any gun, except for a few the names of which we should not mention.

As well as leaving nothing between you and the crackhead who just disarmed you. There are enough documented cases of cops being disarmed, but not shot, simply due to the meth freak criminal being too stupid to switch the safety off.

There are two police documented reports where the officers Glock discharged when the duty bag was slid across the seat. In both instance, the bullet went through the dashboard and not the officer.

I have a Glock30 SF in .45 ACP and rarely carry it, as I prefer a hammer-fired handgun with safety. I may trade it for a H&K Compact. I'd like the Glock better if it had a grip safety or other mechanism besides that damn trigger thing!@@ralphhernandez3521

They base it on police carry data. Glocks were issued to the bulk of law enforcement, so the recordings of negligent discharge in service put them on the radar. Of course, when the M&P started replacing glocks, guess which firearm got the nod for most ND's...

A ND on a M&P is 100% operator error. About 10,000 rounds through mine and absolutely 0 issues.

They were the first editions. The g2's are reliable AF, I polished the feed ramp on mine and have put 1000's through her (she's my EDC) and had absolutely no problems and have never had a misfire.

Me too. I sent it back because of recall and they would only give me a 9 mm pistol. My 24/7 is a 40cal. so l wanted my gun back. Signed a no fault clause and they sent my gun back. It’s never failed me !

@@bigmacfullerton7870 A glock won't fire by being dropped, if the person got nervous and tried to catch it and caught the trigger that's different story and not the gun fault but the operators fault.

The Glock needs a normal safety that keeps the trigger from being pulled. If you or your organization doesn't want that, then just keep it off and you have the pistol as it is today. There are so many goofy design mistakes in guns it makes you wonder.

No such thing as an "Accidental Discharge." They are either deliberate, or "Negligent Discharges." Both of your examples are obvious "NDs."

@@Buffatestuff Stand corrected. Negligent discharge. At our range they’re called AD. Only time I would here negligent discharge is when the officer recklessly shot multiple rounds when he shouldn’t. Eg. hitting a not intended target. Bosses at the range called the AD when it involves cleaning your gun or holstering. Either case, you’re correct. It’s negligent. Great care and total focus on your gun, verification that the gun is not load is paramount.

i do remember hearing about 1 revolver made by ruger if i remember right that has a key safety defect if and when the gun were to get hit or fall on to the ground would that be considered operator error cause i feel like if thats happening with any firearm then i think would be considered a defect

Thanks for the info. I bought one in the early 70’s, after the law suit I became worried. I started drop testing it annually, prior to hunting season. In the 90’s I adjusted the trigger pull to 3 pounds, and could not see anything that could go wrong with it. It’s a tack driver, sub 3/8” at 100 yds. I never heard about which rifles were affected. Glad to know it wasn’t mine.

It occured to me that, with all the openings in the Remington trigger, especially at the point where you can see the seat engagement, if dirt accumulates at those places, naturally you can expect problems, since some people can't bring themselves to clean anything.

@@garywemmer9342 the dirt or rust accumulates between two internal steel strips spreading them apart causing the safety to fail. The best thing to do with it is to replace it. For safety.

Beginners don't check the chamber so they always shoot their glock disassembling it at home and in gun stores. No other gun design requires you to break the firearm safety rules to disassemble

Not mine! LOL I was in 3rd Ranger Bn when Terminator came out. I went STRAIGHT to the gun store and paid (IIRC) $1100 for mine. I USED THAT SHOTGUN! It never gave me any problems. Hell, I used to shoot Dragon's Breath out of it. HAHAHA To this day I'm pissed I sold it. With what they sell for now you could just buy a new M4 or Beretta 12g, and have a modern combat shotgun with easy parts availability............. but none of'em have that UBER-COOL swivel-hooked stock, and with the ability to switch from pump to semi-auto at the push of a button. OH Yeah...... and none of'em were in a famous action movie blowing a guy across a room. THAT was my intro to the SPAS-12. I REALLY wanted the SPAS-15/AA-12, but $1100 for the 12 stretched the lowly Sergeant's Paycheck! LOL $5000 was out of the question!

Revolvers were called pistols before semi autos were even invented. This goes back to the single shot muzzleloading days.

The S&W K-.22 is the greatest .22 Revolver ever made IMO. I made the mistake of selling mine and still regret it.

@@artoftherealThat was because the original P320 trigger’s physical weight was heavy enough that went the pistol was dropped, the trigger stayed in motion (inertia) and was able to fire. Sig redesigned the trigger removing material (weight) to prevent that. Also, many people are using aftermarket triggers that take up the pre-travel. This can take up 50% of the internal safety mechanisms.

@@patrickjohnson2225 The issue is inherent to the design. If the trigger is slightly depressed while racking a round, the pistol can possible discharge. Just keep the trigger assemble clean and lubed. And of coarse, just keep your finger off the trigger when you chamber a round.

@@jacobseraphin685 I've had the 700 since the mid-70's and never had an issue - until I did. I stopped hunting for about 15 years, then tried coyotes. The fist time out, the rifle had not been fried in 15 years. after no success calling, we each fired a couple of rounds at about 200 yards. I was amazed that the original zero was still dead on. When I went to unload, the safety would not move. Finally, I forced it using both thumbs, finger outside the trigger guard, and it fired. Went online and learned of the problem, could probably have gotten it fixed in the recall but reviews of the replacement were not good. I ordered a Timney trigger assy. and wished I had done it 20 years before - it is awesome; absolutely no comparison. At age 78, I recently shot a one-hole group at 100 yards with it, something I had not done in 40 years.

@@careymitchell4731 And you are correct!! Some of those 700's definitely had a problem. I had a pure factory stock 700 chambered in 257 Roberts that went off when I released the safety to unload the rifle. This was at deer camp and needless to say everyone there had messy pants. That factory trigger was taken out and replaced and have never had another problem. Lesson in always knowing where that muzzle is pointed. Safety and gun handling comes first because any part can fail. Point blank period!!!!

You are exactly correct. Many times petrified grease is the culprit. A guy really should disassemble, wash with naphtha, relubricate and reassemble. Same thing happens on the 600 series.

I had the same problem with a Remington 22lr bolt action. Hardened grease caused it to fire when I took the safety off!

I'm a total Sig fan boy I love my 365xl and really want a p226 or p229, but I will not carry my 365xl because of the 320 issues my edc is 1 of 3 pistols 2 of which are Glocks the 19x and the 43x usually the 19x. The 3rd is my hellcat rdp.

Unacceptable for a handgun to fire when dropped. Period. If company a can make a drop safe gun, then company b shouldnhave too. I know you all live in a fairy tale world , but shit happens under pressure, stuff happens inna fight . Stuff happens carrying something every single day. Guns designed for edc should not discharge unless commanded too by the shooter.

Glocks don't have a safety, they have a second trigger on the trigger.

@@wyatthen9871 Yep... my thing with "trigger safeties" is: Anything that can pull the trigger will also depress the "safety". The only thing I can see a "trigger safety" defeating is if the firearm is dropped muzzle-up on a hard surface, and the "trigger safety" takes more G-force to activate than the trigger would alone. But I hate them... I just think they mess up the feel of the trigger unless they have a super-light spring, which may then negate the possible benefit mentioned ABOVE!

Some shooting ranges will only allow single cartridge loads in SKS for exactly that reason.

I have seen that happen. It's very scary! All it takes is a little bit of dirt (unburned powder or carbon) to make the firing pin stick out. Be careful.

That bolt needs to be soaked in odorless mineral spirits for 30 minutes to dissolve any cosmoline or carbon buildup in the firing pin. You can disassemble the firing pin and use a spring from a retractable pen as a firing pin sping in an SKS to make it much safer.

The accidental discharges are not all from dropped weapons. Do your homework

I am very confident that all of these AD are from operator error and not the gun firing on its own. What's worse is that the Milwaukee PD tried to hide several times that their pistols were not sent in for the upgrade.

And the news of those "still firing" have not been stated whether they were the fixed ones or not which is kinda sketchy if you ask me. You would think that'd be an important detail.

Wrong on two counts. Comparing a revolver to a pistol is ridiculous if you've ever shot both. A better comparison is it's like carrying a Blackhawk with the hammer back!. In fact, I checked my Ruger Maxx 9, (which does have a mechanical safety but the " pro" model doesn't) against my Blackhawk and the trigger pull is very similar. Something Noone considers is that if you are somehow disarmed, the time the crackhead spends trying to figure out your gun might save your life. There are several instances of this with cops. As far as the 700 trigger, Hell, they fire at safety off pretty regularly. You don't have to alter it. There was a recall for a reason. Having said that, I've found petrified grease to be the culprit several times. Just take a good cleaning. All 600 models with gold trigger will fire at safety off, too. I've owned them all since they came out.

We don't carry high performance revolvers, tuned for competition, as daily carry guns. B. The grease I'm speaking of, Professor, is the grease that Remington used on EVERY 600/700. It's factory grease. We saw this as early as 1979 in 600 Mohawks only a few years old. It had nothing to do with my maintenance as a 14 year old. You really should stop.

I've heard this, but I've tried many times with my PT145 and 24/7 OSS DS and have not been able to get them to fire. I'm sure that others have accomplished this, but you really have to do some actions that people normally wouldn't do.

@@stephen1991 yes it will absolutely fire I can make a video of it , rack it , pull trigger in half way, engage safety, then continue pull, maybe not yours but mine absolutely will, other than doing that the safety functions normally , it would maybe be under a condition where you did not fully release the trigger and put the safety on

I believe the 320 issue was those manufactured prior to early 2018. Most of the supposedly new issues have been proven to operator error. Most of the officers I work with love the 320 and definitely prefer it over Glock. And the M-18 does have an external safety just it’s brother the M-17.

That WAS the issue before they fixed it on newer releases as well as offering the voluntary upgrade. Voluntary because the trigger still needed to move for the gun to fire, and they offered the heavier triggers for people who were afraid they might accidentally hit their gun at the perfect angle with a proper mallet strike, or happen to fumble it on a hard surface where it lands the exact right way to move the trigger via inertia. The other claims of self-firing have not been verified to any mechanical degree AFAIK, making them more or less unreliable and untrustworthy.

It boils down to personal preference due to no new evidence of said issue. I carry a Sig everyday and till this point have not had any problems. However it is not a 320 but I do own one and it has not had any issues. However if I do have any problems I will let it be known for sure. Well as long as I survive the ordeal, may it happen.

M17 and 18 have manual safety. Use it. Right at your thumb.

Yup. There is always those that are " shade tree gunsmiths", that have NO knowledge of what they're doing, and Remington triggers have those screws, that some people just can't leave alone.

There are a lot of modern rifles and shotguns that can fire when you drop them hard enough on the buttstock. The problem with the faulty 700's is the ND might not happen when you drop it. It could occur later, when you took the safety off. Imagine police sniper aiming at people, and the rifle goes off when he flips the safety.

Almost every instance I have heard off it was being holstered, was holstered and some other movement was happening or it was in a purse and some other movement was happening. I have never heard of an instance where it was sitting in a safe or a bedside stand and it just went off. Improper holster or something caught up in the holster is the likely culprit.

I wouldn't bet on that. There is videographic evidence of them firing without it being "operator error." Hell, Sig is fielding multiple lawsuits about this very thing, and at least a couple law enforcement agencies have quit using it for that very reason.

I unloaded my old Glenfield/Martin .22 semi auto , pulled back the charging handle one last time, aimed at the ground (as I always do) and pulled the trigger...BANG! Damn, a round was still there somehow. If I had stored this like this without knowing there was a live round still in it, bad things could have happened . Any time I use a de- cocker on my handguns I ALWAYS aim to the ground just in case. And I don't trust in battery striker pistols without a safety. Give me DA/SA handguns over strikers.

Officer Doughnut did not have his pistol properly holstered. While armed, he tried to help move a detainee that was resisting, he pulled his buddie's belt, into his own holster, seating the pistol and causing the discharge when the movement caused some obstruction to manipulate the trigger.

did you not watch the video? u can see he bumps into the officer next to him and it pushes the pistol downwards, the entire holster and pistol move and then it pops off my brother has a p320 from 2018, i have a new p320 i got this year, not a single accidental discharge
