I think, throughout the whole show, Eric was some sort of son to Alvin because they share quite a few similarites: They both come from an Asian household and were forced to choose a career path they didn't want to take while dreaming about becoming a chef. Both then pursued their dream despite being culinarily untrained. I guess Alvin saw a younger version of himself in Eric, hence why he is sometimes so strict to draw out Eric's potential.

Aside from his constant sad expression, Eric was probably the only genuine guy here. So many cooks were doubting him, hoping he would fail so they could benefit off of it, and so much more but he absolutely stomped everyone and won by being too humble. Great dude deserved to win.

Eric is the kind of guy you need to be when competing. Cooking skills are off the charts, but his patience and not getting excited easily is even better. It’s crucial since if you get overhyped by your past performance and comments, you’re surely to be fail in the next one. But Eric stays calm all the time. Except *CRAB!* loved it haha
