Our dealer scratched the hell out of our pool. The authorized dealer in our area only training IS WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS!! A friend and I both have terrible messes in our backyards! My husband left a message for you and you just had the problem dealer call us back! We are nearly 90 days since dig start and the pool arrived!

Also our friends install started in November, they had to dig her concrete back up from not bracing it when they poured her concrete and now her wall is bulging!

You are correct. These are more like preventative measures. However, at the time we were producing this content they were definitely solutions for problems we (our clients and our installation teams) were experiencing. We're more than happy to pass this info on to folks to help them prevent having a bad experience.

I live in an area, south Texas, were it is nothing but soft sand. If we use the Rhino Rok around the pool will that work and how far out should we lay the rock? Any other concerns about the sand we should address?

We present this information for those considering installing a fiberglass pool, and they would like to know more about what could go wrong...so, we talk about those problems, and we present information (solutions) so the homeowner can make an educated decision on what type of pool they want to install...and if fiberglass is chosen, they know what to look for from the chosen manufacturer and what to expect of the installer.

AND... Now I know that the installation was half-ass.. they used sand, as the backfill and I've been dealing with ongoing leaks. Is there a way to correct the fading?

Thank you for the videos. They have been very helpful while my pool is being installed. Still not complete. He did not fill the pool with water as he backfilled and it has a bulge on one side. He tells me he is going to dig it out so it will go back. He did use granite stone as backfill. I had a question about waterline tile, What is the best silicone to use to place the tile and what do you use to grout the tile?

What about calcium buildup that isn't flaky and won't scrub off? It's white/gray on walls and all flat surfaces. What can be used to remove it without having to drain it?

Had a fiberglass pool installed last summer with a cantilever concrete deck. They washed concrete over the blue finish above the water line, and ideas how to get this off the finish? My installer is worthless to resolve the issue.

Hi Brian. Sorry to hear about your frustrations. But, fret not...there is a solution. We're assuming you do not have waterline tile based on your comment. If this is the case, simply mix a solution of water and muriatic acid (5:1). SIDE NOTE: When mixing; add acid to water, never water to acid. Lightly brush the solution on the finish of the pool with a paint brush. You will notice the solution bubbling on the concrete remnants. If you find that it's taking a long time, you can increase the concentration of the solution to 3:1. The solution will not affect the finish of your pool, nor will it affect your pool water, BUT do NOT get the solution on the concrete deck or coping, as it will leave a stain. Any opinion on adding sometime like h2o slip grip to the steps to add contrast? We find it is hard for people to see the steps, but I worry it would look bad. Any other advice for adding contrast

The steps in a pool are actually quite visible due to shadows cast from light sources (natural and in pool). Great question however!

@@RiverPools I would think that adding a slip grip of any sort would be helpful. I would think that choosing a proper color and cutting the shapes nicely would look just fine.

Safety first! Commercial swimming pools are required by law to have unglazed Tile spotters at points of embarkation these laws are often not followed in residential construction due to no health department inspections . It’s also unsafe to assume that all swimmers have good depth perception and an ability to perceive color changes in different lighting conditions On a bright sunny day the glare off the water can make it impossible to see where the steps are These are all very concerning issues as the type of accidents that could occurs to this unsafe condition could cause permanent injury or be fatal. I’m not sure what slip grip is but probably void most fiberglass tub warranty’s due to the water needing to be lowered A small price to pay for safety I hope this unbiased opinion helps anyone in their decision making process on what type of pool to purchase

That was an issue in the early days of fiberglass pool manufacturing. Raw materials have drastically improved and manufacturing practices have advanced to eliminate those types of problems. In Florida we basically only have sand. My lot is entirely fine sand. If rock is used should there be a barrier to keep the sand from infiltrating into the rock?

Hi Steven Hajko! Most likely this is do to sand shifting and settling under your pool shell. THere's nothing you can do about that except pull the pool out, remove the sand and create stone base and then backfill with stone as well.

@@RiverPools thanks for the. advice, I have been told that the brand,of fiberglass pool in have can handle the settling because of the thickness of the shell compared to other,fiberglass pools ! The sides and all of the seats, pluss stairs. along with other voids were backfilled with 3/4 in. Stone !

I’ve treated my pool with triple shock, high Chlorine and algaecide but I cannot get rid of the Algae although I think the coating of the pool is now the problem. What can I do to try to put things right, think the chemicals have caused more problems

Lots to unpack here. Let's start with getting chemistry in order...starting with alkalinity, then pH then sanitizing agent (chlorine). If it’s a plaster pool coating that you speak of the good news is it’s easy to have refinished Or if it’s a liner that’s also fixable with a new liner I’m not sure about a fiberglass pool though as the goo coat I believe can only be applied at the factory as the first step in the construction process I hope this unbiased and what I believe to be factual response helps you in the purchase of your next pool,

Have you ever heard of Family Fun pools? The manufacturer fiberglass that has one seem that you put behind the concrete steps. The bottom of the pool is concrete some problems the Same many different

How about a fibreglass pool not installed flat. One side is higher than the other. Water level is off by 20 CM in height of 180cm depth and 800cm length

I have never seen a fiberglass pool installed level. In my opinion it’s impossible and that’s why the tile is added after the pool is installed. Have you tried putting more water on the low side of the pool? Not funny I know but I think this is a hard fix

Hi I live in Ontario, Canada. I has a Fiberglass pool installed by a company called nature bound pools. They used sand as a back fill material, I also have a problem with ground water. My second year with the pool it cracked right through the whole bottom of the pool. Nature bound pools did nothing for me and said it is normal procedure to use sand in there installations. I was able to find a guy to repair the crack for 3500 out of my own pocket. But the crack is very noticeable.

Hi Luca and massimo 1914! Sorry to hear you had this experience. Does your pool have a dewatering pipe? Looks like a second skimmer lid on the pool deck and gives direct access to the bottom of the hole to remove ground water.

Having pool installed now. Installer used gravel and fill with water at same time but wants to use concrete for top half. Is this ok?

Hi Copy Cat! Top half? That isn't really necessary. You only need a 12" collar at the top, and (depending on the features your pool has) you should have flowable mortar fill poured under the tanning ledge and steps so that they have a solid base. If the mismatched colors aren't too big an area, it might be cost effective to use spray cans of gelcoat. Dolphinite makes them, and will do custom colors so you can match the rest of your pool or project. It takes the work and hassle out of the process, and it'll be far less than hiring someone to bring the equipment, buy the gel coat, do the mix, spraying and clean up.

Hi Joe School. You make a valid point. it would be a cheaper fix, especially for the capable DIYer. HOWEVER...we advise STRONGLY against anyone draining their pool on their own to make such a repair. No pool, especially FG should be drained by anyone other than a pro. Doing so without a pro will void the warranty, and if not done properly could result in significant structural damage to the shell. Thanks for watching and weighing in!

Excellent question RPTV! Curved walls are inherently stronger, however without proper installation techniques there still can be issues. Bulging can occur, just not as severely.

You'll be happy to know that we love seeing families happy with their pool purchase. Even when that means NOT buying a fiberglass pool. We often recommend folks go with a concrete pools IF it seems that it would better meet their wants and desires.
