I got rid of my N1 because I couldn’t stand the drone and that was with stock headers, I have HKS headers now so I was thinking maybe since they’re both from the same company it wouldn’t drone as much? I haven’t heard of many complaints with the HKS having drone tho lol
@@B1SQ1T No drone for us. We are old and wouldn’t be able to tolerate it droning. It has the Helmholtz chamber so I think that helps. I had the cat back system and the rest stock for the last 8 months. Now I have a JDL catless header and JDL overpipe with a stock mid pipe. Still no drone. I enjoy the sound and driving it when I get to. I feel like the cold start it quieter with the 2plus tune now. I think I have a video on my page when I still had the stock header.
This isn’t a bad video at all, but it’s important to note the other exhaust modifications on the cars in this video. UEL/EL headers will change the sound drastically and some of the cars indeed had aftermarket headers.
I know this is old but do you know which ones specifically have different headers on them? Idk how to tell except I know the map one has a header. Which others? Do they all?
86 owner here - I have the tomei 60r, its an even more track focused catback and it has no muffler. It weighs 11~ pounds and of course its ridiculously loud, but tomei provides a really good silencer that takes away a lot of noise but doesn't make the car sound bad or perform worse, so it doesn't have to be that loud.
MAPerformance sounds the best in my opinion. I'm about to purchase a 2022 BRZ and first thing I'm doing as soon as I get it home is this exhaust. Thanks for this video, it helped me narrow in and decide my choice.
that Invidia N1 is amazing. sounds nice and deep. isnt obnoxious and sounds great when you get to those higher rpms. Love It i gotta get it when i get my brz
Another con I could see with the ARK exhaust is the extra weight. GREAT video! I ordered my 2022 BRZ the other day and can't wait to fly to Dallas to pick it up!
Am I the only one that dislikes how a single exhaust looks on these cars? Idk if it's me or if I just dislike the second hole there being empty. Not hating on singles, it's just is there something I can do to make it look like a single would fit better.
The sound of a cat back can really differ depending on the rest of the exhaust system. The N1 might be mature sounding with no drone with everything else stock but, most these guys have catless headers and front pipe with the N1 and sounds like absolute shit, and they always complain about the drone
We try to isolate the parts in these videos as much as possible, but you're correct. The tone and volume level are greatly affected by the rest of the system!
How to you stay away from drone ? I really do like the sound of the MA performance exhaust, but I want a more free flowing header set up without the droning. My brother has tomei catless headers with Greddy catback and the drone is awful.
Already knew this video was going to be completely false when he said the Invidia N1 has no drone what so ever including with aftermarket headers 🤣 Invidia N1 has the worst drone of pretty much all aftermarket Dual Exit catback setups. This is on a completely stock setup. Slap a catted or Catless header and you’ve got tinnitus because of the amount of drone it produces, not to mention how raspy the tone of the exhaust gets with different headers. The Tomei catback is great for someone who wants weight savings however most people will agree that it’s simply too loud in a daily with drone rivaling that of the Invidia N1. Many people also note that the quality of the sound for the full titanium Tomei cat back isn’t the greatest. It produces more of a unrefined and tinny sound but not necessarily like a fart can just not the greatest sound out there.
N1 resonated+tomei uel catless, sounds nice but boy it was hard to hear my passrnger talking to me at freeway speeds 😂 and the drone is bad unless you're bumping subs like I was lol
Can you get an aftermarket header without changing your stock exhaust? So for example, to install equal length headers for a BRZ ts without modifying the rest and then get a tune?
I really liked the ARK. On the last drive-by w the ARK, it was really sounding good for a couple seconds when on the gas peddle but The driver let off. Would have liked to have heard A drive by with the driver staying on the pedal.
I have a corsa for my brz. It’s a bit pricey but so is the tomei and it sounds great! I get it that they can’t put 20 exhausts on the list. Amazing one though
Brz owner with a Invidia N1, no headers. It’s very droney, not sure what these guys were saying. It’s definitely deeper than stock but it’s very droney. I absolutely love it but if you’re looking for something that isn’t obnoxious this isn’t the exhaust. It definitely isn’t mature.
Is the MAP exhaust with stock manifold or UEL header? I’m in cali determined to get this combo for track days, but wonder what the combo will sound like 🤔
I thought I was going crazy when he said the N1 was minimal drone. I got rid of mine as well because of the excessive amount of drone from that exhaust.

@@B1SQ1T I never heard the cabin noise of the N1 so I don’t know how bad it drones but I have the Invidia N2 with Tomei UEL headers and it drones pretty bad. Probably not as bad as the N1 if you go off the volume although drone isn’t necessarily about volume and more so the frequency/vibrations resonating through the cabin and well the N2 is pretty bad. Did some volume tests and the N2 with Catless UEL headers is around 98 - 101db revving to 4k so is decently loud however the drone is abhorrent. Looking at a different catback to switch to cause I really do love the sound just not the drone. Saw Tanabe concept g cause single exit peaks my interest but I highly doubt the drone will be any better. Also if you plan on getting headers I would stay away from the spec L, it is known to sound pretty raspy and tinny sounding with any sort of header
Im in no terms an expert in exhausts, but I think the last one is the worst and the 1st is the best. 1st one's sounds is sooo loooooow, like an animal looking for it's prey

Do any exhausts have a quiet cold start ? Or they all about equal. I had Invidia q300 and the drive itself was quiet but cold stsrt was loud. I sold it cuz I didn’t like the tinny sound it sounded like while driving. Felt like it sounded kinda hollow

im new to the car scene. is having a new exhaust system for example the MAPerformance Catback be legal? Like pass emission test and stuff? And how much does it typically cost for shops to charge when installing a system
Catbacks should have no effect on emissions as they are after the catalytic converter. Shop install rates can vary greatly on location. Just give one a call and ask!
Personally I didn't think the drone was too bad on the Invidia N1 alone. However, a few months ago I added a JDL catless UEL header on it. That's a different story 😂 . The drone only bugs me in the mornings sometimes when I drive to work, but overall I'm used to it at this point.

Drone is like just a constant monotonous tone that you hear relentlessly as you're maintaining speed on the highway for example at say 3k or 3.5k rpm. Usually at part throttle resonator and the little muffler in the stock exhaust cancels the drone out
If you don't change the headers or front pipe, all cat backs are legal. What would make them technically illegal is if they exceed the 95 decibel sound limit here in CA. If your looking to stay 100% legal in CA then make sure the catback doesn't exceed that decibel limit. Otherwise, it's not illegal at all to get a catback only. Once you change the headers or front pipe, your risking being sent to the state reff for modified emissions which is a lot bigger of a hassle to deal with than being sent for exceeded decibel limit. Also, modified emissions is usually a bigger fine. Long story short, only get a catback rn if your in California. Especially if your in Southern California. They are cracking down hard down here right now. Me and everyone I know have been state reffed for modified emissions and just trust me when I say it's not worth and you'll regret the process to correct the fine. Any catback is usually fine but if you wanna be 100% safe, make sure it's under that 95 decibel limit
I shouldnt be watching this. Else my wallet will get killed 😅 this is not gooooodddd The first exhaust nvidia one seems nice. A bit more low key and not too obnoxious. The next 2 are down right too obnoxious. But man that HKS... thats the next best thing. Byt yeah shouldve been a dual tip! That acceleration sound is got damn music to my ears.
