Burke Moutain in the Time Stamp? Now you've got my attention. I'm a former local. Burke's big draw these days is Mt. Biking, though the Mt. Biking is NOT run through the mountain, the main hub is Kingdom Trails which is separate and is based in town of East Burke (the naming is confusing), and goes through parts of Burke Mountain, but primarily goes out through the wilderness of the area (darling hill rd, etc). Burke Mountain I believe has some kind of gravity park, but the majority of bikers aren't actually interfacing with Burke Mountain, they're at Kingdom Trails. Also one weird thing that used to exist was that BMA had rights to the training hill that carried over from the short time they actually owned the Mountain, so they always had access to the run and had priority for training schedules. (though I'm not sure how those rights have transferred over the years). The Skiing is very good if you know where to look, but it has been a bit of a roller coaster quality wise with the changing of hands with it's ownership and grooming has kind of reflected that. It's been a whle since I was back in East Burke, but that's what I remember anyways. That's enough from my Burke Mountain rant, definitely check it out if you get the chance. There are some cool glades East of Big Dipper and East Bowl is a hidden gem if it's open. Cheers fellas!
Bob and Jeff and long overdue shoutout for your ski reviews. This morning a ski reviewer was reviewing ski reviewers and was complimentary to you guys above all others. But still share concerns about bias as you are merchants. My commnet on his you tube spot - In my opinion Bob and Jeff are trying to help skiers make purchase decisions that are right for them. I find their reviews or showcases, do an excellent job highlighting the attrbutes of skis, use case, and the skier its well suited for. I find their category reviews to an excellent way to do a side by side and get to a short list that you can then validate with demos and speaking to sellers you trust. If I still lived in Montreal and was skiing Stowe I’d be a loyal customer. I believe they would help me make the right decision for me. No need to go negative when you carry the breadth and dept of assortment they do. They can fit you to the best option without having to call out the bad ones. I have made a couple of decision based on their reviews and have found them to be bang on in terms of the performance I am getting from the options I chose. Thank you for what you do!
Thanks so much for your support! We firmly believe that there's no best or worst ski out there, simply the one that's right for you, the skier. Hopefully that continues to show in both our written and video content.
I totally understand, and I think you're talking about the G-Forces that are created in a turn for sure. What this thing is going for, I believe, is that harnessing that powder flotation feeling that many skiers search for, is made readily available without powder. If you are of the mind that skiing is mimicking flying, then I think there's something to the theory here--less snow feel equals greater flying feel. That's what I'm getting out of it anyway.
@@SkiEssentials Perhaps. But even floatation in pow has a unique g force feel I don't think skiers want to lose that. Suspension is just that, it suspends, i.e. deadens the feel underfoot. We'll have to wait for more feedback on the system for final decision.
Attempting to follow ski racing has been the most frustrating, depressing effort over the last few years. It's been a constant, confusing battle trying to figure out who is carrying races, and the fact that so many broadcasts over the years had literally zero commentary ultimately made me give up on following competitive skiing outside of Olympic years. The fact that the livestream for the first FIS cross-country ski event on American snow in over 20 years wasn't working until just a few minutes before races started was so embarrassing.
Even the Olympic broadcast is incomplete. Fortunately where we live in Vermont, our cable provider includes Canadian channels, and they do a great job at actually showing the event. Albeit and understandably, they focus on Canadian athletes, but still, it's nice to actually watch a race.
I like skis in the mid to upper 80's for this application. Check out the Black Crows Mirus Cor or Captis. Also the Head Oblivion 84 is one of the better carving twin tips out there--stiff and thick with a lot of positive camber.
I already got my bargain from the store you say is yours (I didn't know that at the time) Pinnacle. Volkl Blaze 106 skis with Marker Griffin Bindings for $389.00, such a deal!
