Have you considered getting a 3D printer? There's a whole world of possibilities when it comes to restoring old toys. I'd imagine people have already modelled replacements, just a case of DL'ing, loading and printing. 7:05 P.S I almost pissed myself with laughter over that. You know when you laugh so much it hurts? Thanks for not deleting, you cheered me up no end, effin hilarious.
Same. Mine was kept in 100% mint condition, I carefully packed him away when I outgrew him, and had my mom store him for safe keeping... Then she got on a religious kick, and decided Transformers were evil. She burned all my old toys to exercise the demons from them!
Hands down favorite G1 Transformer was Blaster & Soundwave, just recently got them again for a hefty penny but totally worth it to bring back those awesome childhood memories, Now i am on the search for Optimus Prime & Megatron G1's as well.
I have g1 blaster coming in the mail currently and he is the best transformer ever and that a hill I’m wiling to die on he’s not just better then sound wave he’s he only compared to him he’s so much better then sound wave to the point that I get sound wave toys and pain and sand them down to look like blaster cause he’s just perfect think you for your time.
I had Sky/Jetfire and Soundwave. I remember being particularly proud of having S/JF because I had brought it with my own money instead of getting it as a gift.
I had Optimus and a few obscure ones I can't remember the name of, but my favorite was Trypticon, because it was just so big. I really enjoyed it with my friends because it transformed into a battle station with vehicle ramps. I remember that it came with a little buggy that would roll down the main ramp, but my friends and I would also roll hotwheels cars down it as well
I adore Galvatron, favorite TF character in the entire series, with Trypticon and Cyclonus being close 2nd and 3rd. Being a bit nitpicky, SOundwave is supposed to be a Walkman. Blaster is the Boombox.
I went 4 for 5 on that list. I don't have any of those jets. I thought for sure that the original Megatron would be #1. He's my favorite of the the G1 toys that I didn't have. The Constructicons could have easily had a spot on this list too. Another cool touch about the Soundwave toy is that the weapons look like batteries and fit in the battery compartment of the tape player.
I’ll never forget when I got 2 slags for Christmas and my mother made me give one to my brother. My dad just sat there laughing as I argued that I didn’t want to give one of my slags to my brother, I didn’t know why at the time lol.
My boss is a huge transformers collector and he has a lot of fondness for the seeker jets. He collects as many variants of the seeker jets that he can get his hands on. He even got the masterpiece version of each of the main seeker jets. For me personally, I was always a big fan of jetfire as a kid, He was the one transformers that I always wanted as a kid but I never got him so I decided to change that as an adult and I finally got a G1 Complete in Box Jetfire. Even though I'm running out of space for a lot of my collectibles, I always try to collect as many variants of jetfire because he will always be my favorite transformer of all time.
I agree, it’s so hard to come up with a top 5 from G1 and I loved all 5 of your picks. Did you ever have Shockwave? It might be the one I have the most nostalgia for and would be in my top 3 for sure. Hope you chasers are all doing well. 😃
Between me and my brother, we had all 5 of these, though not Starscream I had Thundercracker. My top 5 favorites have to be Jetfire, Omega Supreme, Soundwave, Shockwave and I'm going to count Devastator as 1.
Soundwave was always number one to me, both the toy and in the cartoon. His voice was always unique to me. I even got a G1 soundwave tattoo as soon as I was able to.
You're damn right I'm number one! I've been trying to convince everyone this for years! One day I'll overthrow that loser Megatron and reign supreme over the Decepticons and eventually the Autobots too!
I had a starscream during the 80's. One day I see a kid around my age across from my house just sitting. I believe he had a toy in his hand. I brought out my starscream and we hanged out. Can't really recall what we talked about. He moved soon after. I never got his name. Hope he's doing well.
I picked up the reissue of G1 Blaster last month and it's a great figure. Before, the first G1 Transformers I ever got were Motorhead and Blackjack from the Micromasters and I eventually picked up the reissues of Bumblebee and Tailgate.
I had the G2 prime, which was basically the same as the Gen 1. I remember the big gun didn't quite fit in his hand unless you really coaxed it. Now that I'm older, I would have drilled the fist hole bigger. And don't have impure thoughts when I say "fist hole". My favorite was MetroPlex. I got one finally in like 1996 I think? Some internet site before that was "safe" but it showed up in 2 weeks and was in good shape. Sold it for over $300 about 15 years later for car parts.
Never was into Transformers myself but I did have one as a kid that actually popped up in my mind again like a month ago. I was able to find a local collector who had one to sell and that one was Needlenose. I also remember my little brother had a purple helicopter but that was it for Transformers in our house :)
Good list. When I was a kid in the mid-80's, I found a Soundwave in a back alley once... the cassette cover was broken but it was still way better than Blaster!
My top 5 would be #5. Soundblaster (It's Soundwave but he can hold two cassettes which is awesome and he's red and black which kicks ass) #4. Sky Lynx (It's a prehistoric bird, a lynx, a space shuttle, and a fusion between prehistoric bird and lynx and it's motorized which is awesome) #3. Shockwave (He's dark purple, a cyclops with a gun for a hand and can turn into a hand blaster which is so cool) #2. Goldbug (Motorized Bumblebee which is pretty cool) #1. Ultra Magnus (It's a white Prime in red and blue armor and can turn into a car carrier which is pretty useful for when you don't room on your shelf for any other transformers which is awesome)
Jazz, Shockwave, the Lambo Twins, the Insecticons, Combiners, Targetmasters, Triple-Changers, Citybots...let's be honest, I could be here all day reeling off which ones were absolutely fantastic (and that's before you get to which ones out of the 350-odd really weren't all that)...
Your list is pretty spot on. My friend Jeremy Davis had Skyfire which I always thought was a cool toy due to its size. As a child I always wanted Optimus Prime, Starscream, Megatron, and Soundwave and these are the G1s that no store ever had in the 80s. So your list has pretty much everything I ever wanted and I have purchased a few reproductions over the years to satisfy that itch. I never needed the authentic toys but I have an Optimus and Soundwave repro that I'm pretty happy with that were sold in Toys R Us back in the day.
For the most part these are my top Transformers toys just in a different order. My #1 will always be Soundwave, and Jay, Melvor, and Rufus can tell you about the stream he had where I debated with Jay about how cool and useful he is lol. Following close behind I would put Jetfire because I too love jets and I'm a fan of Macross/Robotech and their Valkyries. The jet trio would be next although Skywarp is my favorite of the three. Then I'd have Grimlock and finally Ultra Magnus since I like him more than Optimus. Great video Billy, and thanks for showing us your ability to speak Mogwai near the end.
Ironically, one of my top fav G1 Transformers was G2 Optimus Prime. It was the same figure, it still counts! I also looooved my G1 Shockwave... which I'm pretty sure was grey and came from Radio Shack. Hmm... I did have G1 Devastator and I remember always keeping him in combined mode because I could never quite get them to combine well enough without help :P
Soundwave doesn’t make sense? His goal was to spy on the Autobots. Laserbeak was a perfect spy, like a drone in 2020. Then, would fly back and report his secret recordings via cassette tape. Perfect!
We have all 5 of those at my mom's house still. My son disagrees on Grimlock, he says megatron should be number one even though we are missing most of the attachments.
I think there are TWO things that we agree on as a nation: 1) Transformers are awesome! 2) Rock Lords are most definitely not. All those Transformers and Gobots that you converted by basically flipping them over were infinitely more fun than unfolding a rock.
check out the new studio series 86 line they are all brand new molds based on the 86 movie the new grimlock looks awesome also blaster was a boombox, soundwave was a mini cassette recorder kinda like a walkman.
Honestly I'm surprised. My top 5 are the same, but in a slightly different order. I'd put Jetfire at No. 1 out of pure nostalgia and love of Macross & Robotech. Other than that I'd put Optimus above Grimlock again for nostalgia sake as Optimus was always the one I was after as a kid.
G1 Transformers were the best up to that time, and my personal top fav as a kid; but let's be honest here..... the modern TF toylines completely demolish the G1 line. Especially the Masterpiece line, but the current Earthrise line is also 10x better than G1. They're all WAY closer to the look of the cartoons, and way more fun to transform as well. Take off the nostalgia-goggles if you disagree.
I was iffy on your list until starscream for the win!!! Agree that prime has to be top 5 and dont disagree with grimlock, but my top 5 would have atleast 1 autobot car maybe 2, Jazz and sunstreak are gorgeous.
I still want a G1 Jetfire, and a good one is pretty hard to come by now, well in the UK it is it seems. Also who wrote ass in the dust on the turn table.
Sorry but I can be a man and still enjoy things from my childhood, I'm sorry that you don't have enough confidence in your fragile masculinity to do that.
I liked Jetfire the most. But, then again, I didn’t have any of the others as a kid. By the way, the booster rockets are upside down on your Jetfire in the video. C’mon, dude...why would the rockets be shooting down?
