right I mean you are holding a device which bounces a signal to a satellite 800 miles above you and its displaying your exact location down to 3 feet. All developed in a blink of an eye in respect to how long man has been here. He was a germ on a rock 3.5 million years ago and evolved into a conscious creature that made technology so you don't lose your little way........... Yea the plastic molded case which contains micro electrical circuits... something we only discovered 250 some years back when some guy's kite was struck by lightning. hmmm yea I cannot believe it is 2021 and the GPS still looks like it is twenty years old. How disappointed of mankind must you be. LOL What a bummer man. :)
If you want something more simpler, I would suggest you to look at some smartphone apps, like Gaia. They are much easier to use than a Garmin GPS device.

any thoughts on the garmin montana 700 i or regular. It is heavy and expensive but looks like it offers everything you could ask for in a gps. I just don't like the buttons on the 66 although in colder climates it may work better for in the winter.
Hey Dale. The Garmin Montana 700 and 700i are great choices. How do you plan to use it? The 700i comes with InReach technology, so it allows you to send SMS, etc. However, for it to work you will need to pay for a separate InReach subscription so you need to keep that in mind.
There are more brands making GPS, but we found the best ones to be Garmin. Do you have any non-Garmin GPS suggestions? We would be happy to have a look at those too.
Please suggest. Etrex32x or the Etrex22x. I usually hike and trek on known trails. Rarely go to high altitude locations. I do have a altimeter wrist watch (Casio Rangeman). Is a altimeter and electric compass in a handheld gps worth it..?
The 32x has a barometric altimeter, compass, ANT+ compatibility, and the ability to add custom maps. If that's not super important for you, then you can save some money and go for the 22x.
Is there a significant difference in gps reception between a dedicated handheld unit and a modern smartphone? I mean, most modern smartphones have pretty decent gps, with glonass, galileo and beidou even.
@Nicholas von Ohlen Just what i did, i got a cheap rugged waterproof smartphone and load it with maps, it works fine, just the battery dies a bit faster that i'd like it it's ok, no need for a Garmin, at least for me
@@Frank020 It does matter as you can't load maps from the web, but if you already have the maps, it doesn't affect the gps or the built in compass of the phone; you should always carry a map and a compass as a back up tho.
