+Catdragon Mew I forgot my first one but the ones that i remembered the most was Harvest Moon : A Wonderful Life. (Because i never actually got far into it.)
Here's my Top 5 HM games: 5 - Animal Parade: This game is kinda different from the others (in my opinion), but is just awesome! The graphics are really good, the gameplay is very precise, and it have pretty good quests. 4 - Harvest Moon DS: This is one of the first HM games that I've played. It is very fun, and have many different interesting things. Also, it's a ''port'' of A Wonderful Life, and I don't have any problem with the glitches. 3 - Harvest Moon 64: This is the first Hm I've ever played, but it was when I was small, and first have played the japanese version, so I don't understand the game. But many years later I played it again (in english) and it's an great game. The graphics are OK, the music is boring, but the gameplay is almost perfect. It has some glitches, but its fun and very enjoyable. 2 - Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life: This game is just incredible. I really enjoy the gameplay and the graphics. The best music in the game is Breeze, just hearing it makes me want to play the game. The history it's great too, and it have pretty good characters. 1 - Harvest Moon Back to Nature: This game is *PERFECT*. The graphics are pretty good, the soundtrack too, but the gameplay and the features in the game are perfect. It has awesome characters and a very good history. This is, with no doubts, my favorite Harvest Moon game. I haven't played Friends of Mineral, so I can't say if its better than Back to Nature. And the worst game (my opinion) is Save The Homeland. It's awful. Harvest Moon is one of my favorite franchises ever, and I'm sad that the newest games aren't good than the olders. Sorry for my bad english, I'm Brazilian XD
***** I just can't like Save The Homeland, the same way I don't like Magical Melody. These elements you've talked about makes me love Back To Nature, but I don't find them in STH XD. Thanks for respecting my opinion too.
BluennBr : I like Back to Nature too but because I played it after playing Friends of Mineral Town, I thought the lover system is too easy compared with FoMT (maybe the dev fixed it in FoMT). For example, with just wild flower I can get Mari to green heart after just a season. When it's summer, it's Popuri and her pinkcat. Rune Factory 3 and FoMT have the best lover system in the series imo.
Harvest Moon Grand Bazaar was my favorite, it just added a whole new system of selling the love and it was really refreshing especially since you could upgrade tools, add more fields and everything
I just really love the way HMDS looks. It's very childish and nostalgic for me with all the colours and cartoonish designs and a lot of the character designs are really cool and interesting. Granted the plot is quite slow but it's still a childhood favourite of mine.
Everyone seems to like Harvest Moon (more) Friends of Mineral Town, and I certainly do understand why, it's my favourite as well. They should honestly remake Harvest Moon (more) Friends of Mineral Town, I'd buy that instantly!
God I loved FoMT I was too young to appreciate the courting system or even really the good cast of characters. Most of my days were spent trying to figure out if there were ways to get Rick and Popuri's dad to come back. I didn't realize until later that it was because I related a lot to Rick, since my mom is also very sick. I've always been tasked with taking care of things she cannot do. I felt for both of Lillia's children.
Elmy Natasya mine too both: friend of mineral town and MORE friends of mineral Town xD. my first HM was the first one and really like all (excepto island of happines and sunshine islands...) actually I was replay DS Cute 💖
i love everything about magical melody. it is my favorite easily. i wish the town building system from a new beginning was implemented into more of the games though.
I haven't played the newer ones so my list goes like: 1. FoMT/BTN 2. HMDS and the next three are usually interchangeable: 3. Tale of Two Towns 4. Grand Bazaar 5. Sunshine Islands
roronoa leo no, it's very different. Perhaps the graphics are similar but as games, but nope. Two different worlds. Grand Bazaar is my favorite Harvest Moon. I saw hate because the Harvest Goddess doesn't appear and because the game style. Personally I love it :v Tott was sure ignored, but I don't know why (I suppose because the cooking festivals perhaps seem boring to some persons). Was Harvest Moon or not, ToTT was a great game. I hate The Lost Valley, and precisely now it's very popular between posers because it has been translated to a lots of languages. That's the reason I prefer Harvest Moon games in english. Why? Because fans who know how to appreciate it will buy it. Not kids saying they love Harvest Moon games only playing... That :v Sorry, as you could guess, I'm spanish. My english is... :T
Never was even close to finishing it, but it definitely was great. It's challenging too sometimes cuz of the freshness level of food and/or crops, but the fact that there's a bazaar and you had to lure and sell items was just beeeeyond fun.
Just seeing a wonderful life, hearing the music, and hearing you explain basically what i know it does brings tears to my eyes because i've played alot of games and Harvest moon is the first emotional tear jerker game i have ever played and i'm sure some migh tpoke fun of me at the fact i cried when, well i died, but it was really a sad ending.
I know this is late, and most people will already know this by now. But for people first playing Animal Parade, you’ll notice how difficult it is to befriend people. But! There is a feature where if you point the wii remote towards the screen, a heart will appear. Wave it around on a person until hearts appear, and it’s the equivalent of giving someone a gift! So, while playing, if you stumble upon a character, just do this. And it’ll make it so much easier for you.
Friends of Mineral Town and Back To Nature are my favorites ever! It's like that FMoT is the 2D version of BTN. Btw have you play Hero of Leaf Valley? that's good one too!
My top 5 favourite Harvest Moon games are: 5. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GC) 4. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (PS) 3. Harvest Moon 64 2. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) 1: Rune Factory: Frontier (Wii) Yeah, Rune Factory, some may say that it isn't a Harvest Moon game, however the subtitle to the series is 'A Fantasy Harvest Moon' so I'd say that the entire series of games are Harvest Moon games, with the possible exception of Rune Factory Oceans, as that games really took a deep departure from the formula that it was built on, and really focused on the combat and dungeon crawling aspects of the previous titles.
DS Cute is one of my favorites, partly because it has my absolute favorite bachelor in the main series, and I also feel like it was the best done of any of the N64 style Harvest Moons. I also really love that you could put your buildings where you liked and I could actually make my coops and barns inside a fenced off area, so I didn't have to worry about Wild Dog attacks when putting my animals back inside. It's also the second Harvest Moon to include my favorite overpowered device, the seed maker, and the first to completely break game balance by doing so (although it does at least give you a way to save up for that expensive Gold Lumber for immortal buildings). It also has fewer glitches than the boy's DS version, which was generally a mess, especially if you got one of the glitchier cartridges (some cartridges, like mine, had no severe glitches, others suffered from save file destroying glitches). I also love the accessories you can get to further break game balance. Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is probably my absolute favorite at this point.
My faves are 1. New beginnings ❤️❤️ 2. HM: Light of Hope 3. HM: A wonderful Life 4. HM: Tale of Two Towns Those are the only ones I’ve got to play HM: New Beginning is number one for me cause of all the cool stuff you can do, the pacing wasn’t really something I had issues with tbh. I love it cause of the cow festivals HM: New Beginning will probably always be my fave. Thanks to any one who reads this have an amazing day or night!
I actually am buying my first Harvest Moon game, and its Magical Melody! I saw these games, and before was like, "Bleh, its farming", and now I'm actually in love with them since I gave em a shot! Thank you so much for making this list, as this helps me decide on which one to get next!
Where is Back to Nature or Tree of Tranquility? I didn't think FOMT is better than Back to Nature. Back to Nature had so much better graphics than FOMT :)
Harvest Moon Back to Nature : is better than 64 , better graphics , decent game. but HM FoMT : it's not Rip-off from BTN it's actually Encahnced Edition of Back to Nature. you can marry Harvest Godess, there's P egg and X egg. upgrade more tools than mythril level. many more so.. yeah
+Lina G I feel like Animal Parade is a tad of an improvement over ToT, because the storyline with the bells is more interesting. In ToT I wasn't as motivated for story. XDD
It's technically a spinoff game, but my favorite is Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon. It was my first Harvest Moon game--I bought it because it was the least expensive one for the PS2 at the time--and I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say I was very pleased, and spent many a day annoying my mum with the music as I planted my crops and went around collecting things. The only thing that's slightly disappointing is how short the game is. The first time I played it took me awhile, especially since I had to reset because I didn't pay attention to social cues and hints (kind of glad I did. I finally got around to looking up the "bad ending" and it was really devastating to watch), but as I'm replaying it I'm only 4 days in and I've already almost finished the first year. I'm half tempted to ignore the Fire Spirit's challenge so I can see what the alien invasion is like...
Friends of Mineral Town will always be one of my favorite games of all time... My list is so strange: GTA, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Fable, Saints Row... and then... Harvest Moon. xD
Arre yougoing tobe playing Story of Seasons when it comes out Thomal? (a.k.a. the former Harvest Moon) Mine faves are: 1. Harvest Moon 64 2. Harvest Moon FoMT 3. Harvest Moon: A New Beginning 4. Harvest Moon 3 for GBC 5. Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns.
When I was a kid and played "More Friends of Mineral Town", I didn't ever acknowledge the fact that I had a farm. I just used to be boy crazy and talk to all the boys that had a heart. And I slept through all the winters hehe. After a few restarts I started to take care of animals, go fishing, and participate in events but I still never really planted much. I like that the game doesn't force you to do one thing or the other. I learned something new every time I replayed. One bad thing about it though is that my save file would delete randomly after MANY months of playing T_T which is why I replayed a lot
I was really hoping to see Back to Nature in this list. But that's ok :) I'm still surprised by how many people know this game. I thought I was the only one because none of my friends know about this game
Great video! Loved hearing about somebody else's opinions of the games and made me realize things I hadn't before (like your comment about Wonderful Life having not much to do outside of the town.) Friends of Mineral Town will likely always be my favorite game; and I logged MONTHS of playtime in it order the coarse of my lifetime. I would always take it a step further and imagine these complex side stories in my head, too. Harvest Moon is by far my favorite video game franchise, and up until some of the later DS versions- had played them all. The soundtrack to Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life AND Friends of Mineral Town bring back such beautiful childhood memories to me that they actually made me tear up hearing them now. Every once in a while I catch my grandpa whistling the FOMT theme to himself; which is crazy to think we remembers that little tune over 10 years after the last time he would have heard me playing it. I think I'm going to buy a new Gameboy and copy of FOMT now!
I'd say this was a pretty solid list. I hope they bring back the mineral town characters like they did in harvest moon ds. Actually just make a Harvest Moon 3DS.
If they updated the fuck out of mineral town. Like not 3D doesn't have to be, but just really cleaned it up to make it look way nicer if for sure but it. And if they remade wonderful life for the 3ds and added all the stuff you said the game was missing. I'm sure people would love that too. All the recent games they've made are such a huge disappointment and I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on them
Captain Karma have you tried the story of seasons series that is branching off from HM it's only 1 so far but SOS is pretty solid and the next one looks to be pretty good
Captain Karma Fomt is the best though i also wish they make some changes. And i dont want them to make it in 3d its already perfect but i wish they add a little bit of that and this like **cough** divorce **cough** More festivals, and gosh the weeds. the weeds always pop up every damn day and its a waste of time picking and tossing them away.
Good idea. I love your videos. Anyway, my favorite HM games are : 1- Back to nature (I think it's perfection, and FoMT is just an overcomplicated ugly rehash) 2- HM 64 3- Animal Parade 4- Sunshine Islands 5- the original on SNES I really wish they would focus on social interactions with simpler game mechanics like in Btn and 64.
My first harvest moon game is back to nature on ps1. Still my favorite up to date. Friends of Mineral Town is like the upgraded version of it, love them both!
I agree! I like it a lot. Especially when you have already gotten the baskets, and have unlocked many doors and plots. And the animal rooms are pretty convenient too, as well as the buggy.
I spent so much time in Magical Melody and It's a wonderful life but never finished them. As soon as I heard the music in the video I Immediately went back to that time. Its crazy how great music in a game sticks with you
"A new Beginning" is probably my favorite recent Harvest Moon title, and i completely agree with all of your points. The pacing is quite horrible, but the core gameplay is among the best in the series and none of its mechanics feel rough or unfinished. The time and stamina systems are very well balanced, never putting too much pressure on the player and the customisation is just plain fun. And pretty much the same could be said about Animal Parade. Its as classic as it can get, with some fun leveling mechanics and, what i felt to be one of the most fun gameworlds the series ever had. Although its story quests tended to be a little on the cryptic side from time to time. Its rather close to A new Beginning, which only takes the first spot because of its customization features. And for the Mineral Saga (Back to Nature / Friends of Mineral Town and their spinoffs): This would be my all time favorite classic Harvest Moon. I grew up with Harvest Moon on the SNES und GameBoy, but it was Back to Nature which really got me into the series. And FoMT really cemented that love for it, by expanding and streamlining Back to nature and putting it on a handheld. Magical Melody on the other hand never really clicked with me for one, simple reason: Its stamina system. I always felt that you started out without enough stamina to do the most basic things. Tilling, planting and watering a 3x3 patch of crops pretty much renders you completely exhausted. And its much bigger focus on giving your townspeople presents so they actually stay where they are was also something i never really liked.
It's really hard for me to pick favorites of Harvest Moon games. A Wonderful Life was my very first though, way back when I was a little elementary school kid, so that one is particularly special to me. I just love all the games listed here. I love all the Harvest Moon games I've played. X3
Harvest moon a new beginning would easily be my favorite game if they made the style and graphics the same as the opening scene. That wad SOOO nice and refreshing! I'm personally getting a bit tired of the cutesy chibi style HM has been doing lately.
I kinda wish they would like recycle characters like Gareth and Tabatha they’ve been in a few that I know of my first HM I played that it was an option for you to play different characters was New Beginnings I always went after Neil it’d be cool to see him in a new version of HM. Tbh I wish they would use those characters from that game again loved those characters
I was searching for a review to watch before buying one of the PS Vita downloadable titles. Unfortunately, none of these are available, hahah. But the good news is I found a cool new channel!!! Thanks man :)
Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me out? I'm a little clueless. I used to play Save The Homelands ALL THE TIME when i was a kid! It was one of my favorite games and i thought the people were really fun and storyline was really cool. As i got older I learned that there were other games under the harvest moon name. Now i am really intrigued to play more of them. The consoles I have are ps2, xbox360, ds lite, and a pc. Apparently a lot of people who like harvest moon do not like Save The Homelands, but as someone who does, what would you suggest if I want to play more of the series? What should i start with?
For the pc, i would definately suggest downloading a free gameboy advance emulator and the Friends of Mineral Town rom (it's legal, just in case your wondering)
Harvest Moon animal parade was one of the best I've played. Second is Tree of Tranquility.... both of those had a really nice plot, plus everything was challenging and fun
I agree. I haven't played any other HM games except for Tale of Two Towns. I've seen other HM games but personally I would probably prefer Tale of Two Towns.
so the first game I played is harvest moon friends of mineral town in the gameboy. Second is harvest moon boy and girl in the psp. I think I'm going to have a hard time to find a harvest moon that can match that
SNES games don't work on older 3ds. You need the new one. not an older one. Although, I don't believe SNES harvest moon is on the 3DS, i may be wrong. I personally would recommend Harvest moon 3, over Harvest Moon 2.
I played back to nature on the ps 1 when PlayStations and gaming systems were just coming out. I was a kid and my mom would help me. It holds so many memories to me and will always be number one! I’m currently replaying another wonderful life and really enjoying it. Animal parade is next on my list.
What harvest moon game should I play if all I care about is the farming aspect of the game and don't want to deal with the story or talking to npcs in the game? I know I cant escape the story completely but what I'm really looking for is one that focuses on the farming and item upgrades more than anything with little to no required "quests" to unlock things like seeds, livestock, tools, upgrades and so on. I had the harvest moon game on the psvita (think it was a port) the one where your a robot made by some scientist to do farming and whatnot. It was way to story heavy and I ran out of things to do very fast because I ignored the town for the most part and only went there for seeds.
Yes! Get Stardew Valley! It's the best farming game I've ever played, and I don't even like farming games! It can take a while for you to get a wife, because you can only increase their affection towards you with gifts (you can only give each NPC 2 gifts every week), but I think it's definitely worth a look. And if you do not like the game, you can just refund it! Hope that I was of help! ^_^
DingoPoo I would if I had the money for it but broke me cant afford it lol Watching someone play that game is actually the reason why i wanted to play a harvest moon game. and that person is Markiplier if anyone was wondering.
A wonderful life is like the best and in my opinion I think the graphics are probably the best out of all the games... Just saying. I'm mad since you say it takes sooo long for it to water no it really doesn't lol you just need patience
Oh my god thank you I love A Wonderful Life too. The graphics ARE the best. Even if it's a 2004 game, you gotta give it a lot of credit. The characters can be a bit boring but I absolutely adore the family feature. A wonderful Life special edition I thought looked amazing but I have been hearing a lot of complaints about the frame rate, so I'm not taking any chances.
the lag is annoying but the rest of AWL SE is brilliant, especially the new features: - Being able to marry Lumina and/or have a daughter - Chapter lengths being reduced to 1 year in length - as much as I love AWL, I have to admit that on many playthroughs I simply got bored midway through Chapter 3/4. So this change helps immensely in that regard. - Being able to sell that goat - admittedly, I never really bought the goat but I've heard stories about how the fact you couldn't sell it in AWL, after it stopped producing milk, was SO annoying! So yeah, if you can get past the frame rate drops and peaks and the loading screens, AWL SE is a great game if a little frustrating for the aforementioned reasons.
The memories of spending the holiday, trying to find cursed tools, making them blessed, and upgrading all of them to mythic, then fishing the treasures and fossils are just, priceless.
Yes you're right, in FoMT everything you do has a purpose. Even spending 50 years with your wife will reward you a dacha near the mountain, that's just neat, the price tag for town cottage though, it was 10 mil for Japanese version but Natsume gave it 100mil instead, gosh!
Sadly idk what the hell was GameCube back then, I don't think it was even sold in my country (but GBA is) so I kinda lose the ability to connect to AWL and have a seaside cottage.
You're kidding, right? You made FOMT 1st but you put HMDS on your top 5 worst list? Maybe that only rubs me the wrong way because my first HM game was DS but I feel like that's some bullshit right there.
Bruce Gunn Harvest Moon FOMT is the better harvest moon for me, I'm playing Harvest Moon DS since a few days and I'm sure about it, it does many things wrong
I love it. All the things he said about FOMT I can say about DS, just swap "translation issues" with 'glitches'. I have managed to get my cat stuck on top of my counter when my kitchen was delivered making it then stuck in my microwave but there was nothing that made the game unplayable. My advice would be to check where your animals are before saving though.
+Bruce Gunn I don't know, I kind of agree with him. I've played both, and HMDS has a lot of glitches... When I was trying to play it, it took me like four tries just to get a save file going. First, there was the ghost town glitch. Literally NO ONE exists in the town. You'll literally go day after day after day with all the doors locked, and the solutions I found (throwing your ball into the pond) didn't help. So I just started over. It was useless to try. My second try proved okay, and the town was actually populated. So I thought, "well, this is good!" I oh so foolishly decided to go to bed without saving on the first day, and then waited. Waited. The screen was just black when I saved. No matter what I did, it wouldn't do anything. So I reset. Again. The opening bit was pretty tiring for me, what with all the motions and little timestaking scene bits. Eventually I just got tired of consistently restarting and just stopped playing for a while. And then there are also times (like what he outlined in his ranking) where the save file just corrupts. It corrupts, and then that's it. You can't play it anymore. It's gone. And usually it happens when you've made a lot of progress, so it really sucks to restart. The glitches in HMDS actually can make it unplayable, so how he ranked it was actually pretty valid...
If you like harvest moon , try out Stardew Valley, its coming out in a weak on steam :) its inspired by harvest moon , but has TONS of stuff you can do , even a fighting combat in caves, you welcome
Harvest Moon 64 was my favorite. It didn't come out in huge supply at first so my friends would borrow my copy of it and delete each others' saves over and over (good ol' days of borrowing to play). Good memories and my favorite one to relax to.
My favorite game is a new begining whitout a doubt up until i got a new begining my favorite was back to nature/ friends of mineral town but a new begining is just so good the amout of things you get to do you have so much things to do and about it being slow yhee i know it is really slow in the begining but get passed the first spring and its so good and not having all the stores or mine or even the girls at the begining ist bad either its actually my favorite thing on the game everytime you build a house/store and someone comes to town i get a sense of acomplishment so big i remember that when i finnaly got the mine i was so happy i played the game for the entire nigth just mining :D
roronoa leo You can't move town building around, instead you unlock areas of the town that you can decorate. The is also a "fast traveling" system. so you can teleport to town from your farm. It's really convenient. The game looks similar to ANB, but it plays better. I would recommend it.
AWL was my childhood and first PS2 game... Now i play some games like FPS games, shooter, etc... I kinda feel bored right now... I guess replaying the game will make me feel better. (I never finished the game anyway) Nice vid Bruh!!!
+TruferZ Better than the controls being diagonal like in Back to Nature. Also, you can change the angle for HM64. However, you can only do that for your farm. But I feel that outside of the farm, the isometric view doesn't make as much of a difference.
Love your videos dude, Your videos are greatly needed in RU-vid for avid Harvest moon players, do more Top 10s like cows, tools or bachelorettes. Thanks a lot.
"harvest moon 64 will not be on the list" *turns off video No offense to you but a list of best harvest moon games without harvest moon 64 is no list at all. Have a nice day.
Sean Fearnley So that means he made an incomplete list. It's like if i'm gonna make the best FF games, but i'll not add the old console versions because i didnt ever had them.
"That is no excuse. All that means is that he has never truly played Harvest Moon." Yes he has. You're just being a baby who can't take that your favorite game isn't on somebody's list. I came here looking for some opinions on Harvest Moon games to see which one I'd play next, and I actually appreciate that 64 isn't on here since that's all I'm ever told about. I don't like 64, so seeing something different was nice. "So that means he made an incomplete list. It's like if i'm gonna make the best FF games, but i'll not add the old console versions because I didn't ever had them." Different guy, but still wrong. You don't need to play every single HM game to give an opinion on which ones are your favorite, just like you don't need to have played every single video game ever made to make a "Top 5 Favorite Games" list. This video is just one guy's opinion, as he states at the start, and he makes no attempt at being objective. "The title of the video is "Top 5 Harvest Moon Games" not "My 5 favourite harvest moon games" And HM64 was the all time best harvest moon game." You don't need to add the "My" to the start because it goes without saying. Any "Top X Of All Time" video/article/whatever to have ever existed is just somebody's opinion. He says it within the first 30 seconds anyway. There's no such thing as the best game ever, or the best Harvest Moon game ever. It's all opinions. Also, Harvest Moon 64 is shit.
My Top 3: 3. Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley: I probably likes the aspect that thos game looked so good on the psp. And it looked not as childish as the DS games. 2. Story of Seasons: Love this Game! Almost everything is perfect, but i kinda missed a few aspects from older games. 1. Harvest Moon A New Beginnning: Won't say too much about it. It is just perfect
I think one of the best Harvest Moon games is also The Tale of Two Towns. You get to choose between 2 different towns with different people and there's so much to do from the start like hand fishing, foraging, talking to people, requests, critter catching, cooking, and so on. The characters are lovable too (except the Harvest Goddess, something about her is just so annoying).
My favorite is Harvest Moon, Tale of the Two Towns. You can focus on your family, focus on making friends, farming as well. The animation is amazing as well, there's several random events there requests you can fulfill to get rewards or tools. You have to check it our yourself
Harvest Moon: Magical Memory is basically my childhood! I had it on the wii when I was younger and I loved it. I wasn't very good at it but it made me love the harvest moon series
