1. Auto Vehicle Hold 2. Memory tailgate (tailgate remembers opening height). 3. Open panoramic sunroof fully by waiting for it to stop opening, then hitting the open button again. 4. Rear windshield wiper fluid also washes rear camera lens off. 5. Reverse Automatic Breaking. You're welcome.
This was a very timely video, because I didn't understand why my tailgate was only going up halfway. I thought I was going to have to take it in for servicing, but now I know what to do. Thank you!
Just bought a MY23 Premium in White/black interior and I love it. Really like the attention Subaru is putting on safety for all its vehicles. Thanks for the tips btw!
Love my new Subaru Forester, but there are SO many great features it becomes overwhelming. I love how you break it down into manageable segments/tips. Easy to follow and understand each function you’re describing. Thanks so much!
Loves it. Very informative. All this info is in the books they give you, but let’s be real who has time to read all these books, by you putting it in simple words and actually demonstrating how to its really so much easier to learn and understand so Thank you.
I just found your RU-vid video. I was very happy to see how easy you explain things, so an older folk can understand and easily make the fixes/changes needed. Thank You!!!
Alex thanks so much for the great information! New viewer here and I have just let adaptive cruise on my 2020 Forester handle things when stopped behind other cars because I was clueless about AVH. So for nearly 3 years when I am the first car at a (long) light I have been putting my car in Park! Note: I have done F&I for Subaru dealers since 2006, but with a guaranteed 5 on the survey I always get short changed at delivery!!! As of now I am planning on buying out my lease in 2023 because I just cannot bear to learn another car. I always told my customers the best used car you can buy is the one YOU have been driving for three years, so I plan to practice what I preach!
How do I remove the headrests, in order to change the protective seat covers that I have on it. I can't remember how I did it four years ago- I got them raised up with the release button, but can't seem to pull them out all the way. (2019 Subaru Forester Premium Sport)
Thanks. I was using AVH as an on/off switch for each use. It's interesting how a video can better explain than just reading in the manual which has more caveats regarding when a feature will not work.
Hi Alex - Love these videos and I just upgraded to a 2023 Subaru Forester from a 2018 and the features have really come a long way! My question is, how can I get the speed limit to show on my upper display and/or the display in front of the wheel? I had it on a loaner and I loved it! Can't figure out how to get it on this car. I would appreciate any input from you. You're incredibly knowledgeable! Thanks.
The hatch height memory is especially useful for having a rack or dry box that is large, it’s to make sure that your rear door window doesn’t raise into your Thule, Yakima, or whatever roof storage system that you have, assuming its long enough to hang of the back of your vehicle and interfere with the full range of motion of your automatic opening of the rear door.
Haha I accidently set mine to only open about a foot... Boy did I look stupid trying to put something in back when I could not figure it how to change it haha. 6 months later, still haven't figured out how to change the setting, I've just turned it off🤔. Now I know how!
Alex, your Subaru videos are not only informative, but so well detailed that I’m learning tons of useful stuff thanks to you. I’m 64 yrs young 6’2 and 218 lbs, tested 😮the RAV4 and Mazda CX 5, they just didn’t feel right (too cramped and noisy) then and as luck would have it I ran into your channel here in YT, I tested the Forester and that’s what I just ordered 6 days ago, Touring model white ext and noble brown interior. Thank you for making my decision much easier, you just got yourself another subscriber in me, I wish for you all the best and a lifetime of success ~ Cheers. 🍻
@@sandradee7484 Very happy with my choice, no regrets, love the cornering of the 4WD suspension on a twisting local road near by and the overall comfort and outward visibility. Stereo System is great with the Harman Kardon, and a nice CD 💿 for my classical music, great bang for my money. 👍
@@sandradee7484 One final note for you Ms Sandra Dee; In the end it will all be subjective to your taste, liking and preferences, you cannot go wrong with today’s modern vehicles, they are all equipped with lots of safety features etc. I actually sat and test drove the Subaru Outback as well, and although plenty of comfort once inside and leg room for my chubby frame I didn’t particularly care to bend my head sideways low enough to enter and exit vehicle every time, similar thing happened in the Mazda CX 5 which right alongside the RAV4 appeared cramped inside (for my taste anyway) road noise and jitters were also more noticeable in the CX 5 and the RAV4 Unless you wish to go Luxury, my money is in my daily driver now the 2023 Forester Touring, all the trimmings, easy access in and out, best visibility outwards and I don’t have to bend my neck to get in, Subaru has been making good progress and quality vehicles for many years now, the Forester is worth a look, ultimately you will be the one in the driver’s seat, so choose wisely and weight your likes and dislikes of each one, and whichever has the best likes in your opinion, that may be the one for you. Best of luck to you, hope you enjoy your new vehicle, it’ll last you many years with proper care and maintenance…Cheers! 🍻
This is extremely helpful information for me Alex and the comments. Walking into a dealership as alone I want to know as much as possible, so they don’t think they can take advantage if I am more informed. I was also looking at the Corolla Crossover, but a couple videos said they didn’t prefer that car. Any information is so helpful. Thank you!!!
Just got the Forester and so impressed with the vehicle but have NO CLUE what all these buttons do. I swear I think you need a PHD to drive one these days... great video! Thanks!!... going outside to check these things out.
Hi, I would like to see a video on 1) how to permanently “lock” a seatbelt so it’s tight and 2) installation of an infant rear facing car seat, following Subaru’s guidelines, on a 2021 Forester. That’s the model we own. And the seatbelt locking feature is important because that’s what holds the car seat in place.
I remember the old Subaru Sportswagon from the 80s had a hill hold feature. It meant that it wasn't necessary to use the handbrake on a hill in a manual.
Hi Alex. You seem to know a lot about Subaru's, so I hope you don't mind a random question. I have a 2011 Forester - 2 questions. Is there a way to disable the honking that accompanies the autostart? Also, is there a way to make it so that pushing the auto-lock while the drivers side door is open will NOT lock the doors?
Hi Alex, I have learnt more from you than I did when I got the handover from my dealer in Brisbane. Have you done a video on the cruise control operations on a 22 Forester , as I can’t find it. Appreciate the help mate, cheers
Yes, here's a video I made on the Forester. The one in the video is a 21 but it's the same for 22. Hope this helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jT7CV7oVHUU.html
Thanks for the video! I'm looking to upgrade in the spring from my 2010 Forester to a 2019 forester premium and you've got me even more sold on my decision
One hidden feature ive never seen on any channel is the storage slot under the rear deck for the retractable cover. Its a perfect slot under the deck made just for it. Maybe everybody already knew this but I just figured it out today.
We just bought a new Subaru. It’s coming in a couple weeks all because of you thank you thank you thank you very much for your feedback we’re gonna be traded in our 2022 Chevy equinox and we’re gonna be buying a forester 2023. We love your videos learn so much thank you thank you thank you
We have 2019 and 2020 Foresters so I was pretty much familiar with all of the tips. One exception: the 2020 is the premium model but I was not familiar with the rear view braking. I'll be checking that out first thing tomorrow morning. Good stuff!
I saw a few times in the dash the center screen showed when you were braking by illuminating the brake lights on the screen. Will that also tell you when one if one of your brake lights are out?
Thanks for all the great and helpful info that you provide through your channel, Alex. We just bought a 2022 Forester Premium in autumn green metallic which arrives to the dealer in about 2 weeks. I've been wanting this or the Outback in this color for YEARS and am jazzed that I will finally own one. Cheers!
@@cloverdo-over2541 Subaru Outback and Foresters have been available in Australia since about 10 years ago but not now, only petrol for the last couple of years.
Thx a mill, the salesman didn't inform me of the features you spoke of. He really didn't talk about much, other than the sale of the vehicle. Some sales people only care about getting you in the vehicle and making the commission!
I love your videos I'm a new delivery specialist for Subaru and these are like refreshers and there's been a couple I didn't know! Love these videos!!!
The color in this video is called Jasper Green. It's no longer offered so you would have to go with a 2019-2021 model to get it for the new generation forester. The Autumn Green (darker than jasper) and Green Silica (dark forest green) are now offered for the 2022 model
Thanks Alex. Our Forester is identical to the one you used in this video. And we do have the package 15. Thank you for sharing. We did not realize that we have all of these features.
Hey Alex, Thanks for the tailgate tip. My wife is so short that she has problems reaching the button to close it. She seldom uses my Forester, but I can adjust it to suit her
These are fairly obvious. You should cover the more obscure ones, like: - the secret unlock code on the tailgate - how to disable your fob so it doesn't accidentally activate when it's in your pocket Of course all these are in the 10000 page owner's manual lol, but who reads THAT.
Thanks Alex. We have a2020 forester with the package 15. Identical to the one you have in the video. So this was great for us. A few things that we did not know. Thank you
When you activate the AVH, and remove your foot from the brake, do your brake lights stay on? If not, I can see someone not paying attention ramming you from behind.
Hey Alex, not sure if you read new comments on old videos but here goes nothing. One thing I would love to see is a video on is how to troubleshoot problems connecting to Apple CarPlay. I have a 2023 Forester and one thing I often encounter is a hit or miss connection to Apple CarPlay when I plug in my iPhone. I’ve swapped out cables. I’ve turned the car off and on, I’ve done all kinds of things, but it really seems to be a matter of chance whether or not Apple CarPlay wants to cooperate with my phone. A video on this would be very helpful. Thank you.
Hi! I check my comments often (even on older videos) but I don't always get the notifications so some of them get missed. In regards to apple carplay, it seems as though some of the 2023 Foresters have had hardware issues. At least, I have had more than one person ask me about this issue on their 2023 Forester. Not saying this is the case, but it could be more than just the cable. Has your Subaru service department looked at it? I would continue to take it back to them until it's fixed. May even require getting a new infotainment display.
We are very happy owners of a 2022 Forester - these are very, very good 'cars' that just happen to be in the shape of an SUV . Thanks - you should also mention the auto stop/start defeat button although most of us probably know about it ...... thanks - great post .
Fantastic information I been driving Subaru for 20 plus years I never knew all that I just drive 🤪.I will need to watch it a few times as I’m waiting for my new 2022 Forester premium love your clips💜
Thanks for the videos. I’m 70+ and really struggling with my 2022 Forester settings. Disappointed with lack of education from dealer! The part on this video about turning reverse auto breaking is confusing and hard to follow but I doubt I’ll be changing that.
Alex, thanks so much for your awesome videos. I bought a new 2020 Forester Touring just before COVID began in early 2020 and I never really learned the features -- until this weekend after watching/learning from several of your videos. THANK YOU! I do have one question for you: You have a lot of good info that helped me with the RAB. The question I have -- Is there a way to turn off the RAB when my bike rack is already on? The RAB is greyed out when I start the car and put in Reverse when the bike rack is on from the start.
I just got a 2022 wilderness, i didnt know the backup camera would clean the lense. Thats very handy. 6+ months of the year are winter where i live and on my old car the backup camera would always get covered in snow or salt/dirt from the road and id have to clean it off with my finger, most of the time i forgot to do it.
Can you give review of 23 Forester? Especially new safety, cameras etc. Trim levels included & what you can " add on" to "lover level" trim levels. I'm also trying to figure out if the EV Forester is plug in hybrid or plug in only. I make 500 mile trips in rural & sparsely populated areas which don't have charging stations. I want a EV & since you will have to pry my Forester from my cold dead hands I'd love for it to be EVn esp. if it qualified fit new tax credit. I'm on my 3rd Forester-2008, 2014 & 2016. '08 saved my life once (semi cut in from in white out snow) & '16 prevented more head damage by absorbing more impact when I was rear ended.
JUST BRILLIANT! I liked and subscribed. I’ve had my Subaru for three years, learned all six features! Thank you! I’m looking forward to learning more…. Victoria
We've had the Forester for 2 year and I learned 2 new things! Any idea why our Forester smells like a gym bag all the time? I would also love to truly be able to shut off the headlights in the off position like my Tacoma. Subaru also needs to revise the cup holders and a good place to put you phone.
I just bought a Forrester in July I believe it’s a 2021 model and it’s a sports package. I asked about the brake assist because my daughter had one in her Honda. The sales person told me no it did not have that. So once I get back to my car I’m going to be checking for that and I’ll be very excited to see if I have that. Thank you for these videos keep them coming.
I just got to check my car for that brake assist feature and it is there I can’t believe that the sales person didn’t know about it. It’s especially disappointing since I asked about it. Thank you once again for pointing out all these tips. As cars become so technical especially with all the computerized components and we as the consumers cannot keep up thank you for your help.
@@brycenorthrup5917 we got it on 2/8. The information I got was once it is loaded on the ship in Japan it takes 11-14 days to reach the left coast. Then 1-3 days to unload. Our ETA was 2/2 so it come in on 2/7 and they had it prepped and delivered on 2/8
Great vid! 👍🏽 While building the Fozzie we want, I noticed that the factory Subaru remote start MSRPs at $350. So depending on how long one plans on keeping their Fozzie, that might be a better value than Starlink. Granted, Starlink gets you so much more than just remote start, but there is a hardwired alternative :)
Yep, you're exactly right. 99% of people will find that the starlink is the better bargain. The hardwire alternative is great for those who don't have a smartphone.
Since I live in a warm climate the only thing I care about is to be able to locate the car if it gets stolen. Sucks that I have to pay the full price of Starlink subscription just for that. I think I need to find an alternate way to track my car's location.
Thanks...been siting in driveway with the glovebox bible reading all the bells a whistles but I'm wondering cruzcontrol anyway to shut off warning keep hand on wheel very annoying
Thank you for the fantastic information. Is there anyway of having the entertainment system default to the radio screen instead of the home screen? It was set that way for a while and was great, but it seemed to have defaulted back to the home screen. Thank you in advance
Is this the Autumn Green Metallic shade? I wanted to see it in person before I order, but with this shortage, I don't think that's an option here. Did you think it looked very gold or bright green in the sun, or do you feel it look more olive in real life?
This is jasper green. The autumn green is a new color option for the 2022 forester but has been out for a few years in the outback. I would google pictures of the outback in autumn green to get a good idea on what it looks like.
Your explanation on AVH neglected to mention their use on different terrains. I mean on level ground, resting your foot is nice, but few will use it for that. However for those in hilly areas with stop and go traffic, say stop lights on a slope… the AVH feature is invaluable to help you hold your position and not roll backwards or forwards into another vehicle. (In the time it takes you to move your foot from the brake to the acceleration point.)
Yep, another great advantage of AVH. Although, now I find myself accidentally letting off the brake in all of my cars now that still don't have that feature 🤣
Thank you so much for your videos. They have been a great help to me! I have a question, I have a 2019 Limited Forrester, why does the chime continue to play when I’m getting out of the car and everything’s OK? Like the old school cars used to do if you left your keys in the ignition or your lights on. It chimes every time I’m leaving the car and never stops till I close the door.
My question is i have the subaru forester sport model but some sport model have different healight assembly meaning they have drl strip light and i dont. Is it possible to switch them out with the drl strip light? Ty
Fun fact, if you are only lightly on the brakes while at a stop, it won’t engage avh. But you can press a little harder and it will engage. Foot off brake waiting, you can apply the brake pedal again when you know you’re about to go again, and it will disengage the avh, allowing for a smoother transition to movement.
@@AWretchedMan cruise control will already be disengaged, since you are stopped. Just hitting the accelerator is fine. But if you don’t like how rough the engagement is, you can tap the brake and it will disengage the hold and allow the car to idle forward as usual.
