Check out the Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock. It's sold as fantasy but has delicious horror aspects in it regarding an old-growth forest and its inhabitants.
A company called Fright Rags did a Stephen King collection (they also did a Dark Half, Pet Semetery, and Skeleton Crew design). I think they're all currently out of print, but a year or so ago I think they did reprints. Might be worth periodically checking their website to see if the designs come back.
I just discovered this channel and I am now binge watching every single video you uploaded. I read mostly in french so a lot of the books you talk about were not on my radar since a lot of them have not yet been translated. Anyway, great channel. Can't wait to read your books too. Greetings from Montréal.
p.s.: do you also over comic books and video games? As i said i just found out about your channel so i apologize if you already answered my question in one of your videos.
Thank you so much, Joe! So glad you’re enjoying! And I’ve been to your city, it’s wonderful! To your question: I’ve done a couple of comic book recommendations (and a few list videos) but no video games, yet, sadly.
Horror novels that need filming:. The epic vampire novel They Thirst by Robert McCammon, Dead Sea by Brian Keene, and The Possessers by John Christopher.
Wow, I have said this very thing about THE LONG WALK. IMO, it is his best work along with MISERY. I would LOVE this as a movie. No one really knows this book in the King pantheon and I am so thrilled to see someone else praise it.
Necroscope by Brian Lumley. Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry, they're already filming his V Wars series for TV. Monster Hunters: International by Larry Corriea. More an action/adventure with lots of horror/vampires/werewolves/etc thrown in.
+Milfweed Furney I have Little Heaven but haven't gotten to it yet (really enjoyed Cutter's two books prior to that, and he was nice enough to blurb one of my books, which was a fan dream come true). Heart shaped Box owns and I'm really surprised there hasn't yet been a film of it. I need to grab Within these Walls! Thanks for the suggestions.

Late response, but I think "A Head Full of Ghosts" should definitely be a movie. I couldn't put it down. There's another book called "Hex" by Thomas Olde Heuvelt that would make a great movie, too. Great channel- just subbed.
Head Full of Ghosts had Oz Perkins attached to direct at one point (maybe still?) and that would be a hell of a movie. HEX has been on my to read pile forever, I have to get to it soon!
In some alternate universe, the Long Walk was made in the 80s and had River Phoenix in the cast somewhere. The one I personally can't wait for is Video Night The Motion Picture!
+doobiesmoke15 weird that you mention it because I JUST last week re-read it (it's one of my faves) and I never re-read things. It's kind of more dense than most novels. I love what a jerk the protagonist is.
I heard that some movie studio has bought the rights to it. I have no idea how it could be adapted into a movie. BTW did you know that it has inspired a number of songs
I love this book site “fetching lobon only” (Google it), it`s easy to use and there are plenty of books/documents to read. I`m very thankful for finding this site and you should try it as well. If you are a reading enthusiast, then do not miss out accessing this website. What ever you need when it comes to books and reading materials is found here.
Naomi's Room is one I'd love to see adapted on film, that book scared the hell out of me when I read it as a kid & I've always thought it would be the perfect book to adapt into a horror movie, especially if they got Ari Aster to direct it cause it's kind of similar to Hereditary as it's a really dark & disturbing story & is about a family who are dealing with grief.
All those HUnger Games/ The Long Walk stories bring to my mind Vonnegut's All The King's Horses, wherein a game of chess is played with real people as the chess pieces..
Yo! Summer of Night and its sequel A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons. How is it even possible that it hasn't been adapted to the big screen yet beats me, but it's one of my personal favs. Your channel rocks btw.
+Mimi B thanks so much, Mimi. And you're not the first person to go to bat for Summer of Night, but it does remind me that I REALLY need to get on reading that.
I liked Summer of Night very much. Have a Stephen King vibe because of the kids. Dan Simmons is awesome. Specially Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion; very good mix of sci fi, fantasy and some horror.
One of the books I’m reading is Pilo Family Circus and I think it should definitely be a movie! Same with its sequel!! So far, Pilo Family Circus is great!
Hi Oscar! Thanks! Have you reviewed any Poe stories? I love Poe! My favorite short stories are probably House of Usher, Thou Art The Man, Cask of Amontillado.
It's from a company called Fright Rags. I think it's currently out of print, but they *do* bring designs back if there's demand for them, so it's worth checking out their site. They also did the original covers for Pet Semetary, Skeleton Crew, It, and The Dark Half. I have all the others but The Dark Half, and I still regret not having it to this day.
The Imago Sequence audiobook is AWESOME. The reader is fantastic. I was listening to it yesterday when I was trying to go to sleep and had to stop it as it was too creepy! LOL. A great book. If someone could adapt to a movie, it would be fantastic.
Out of the Bachman books I would prefer to see an adaption of Roadwork. The right director could make a beautiful 70's throwback with it. Nice channel. Just subbed.
Thanks man. And def like Roadwork! Would be interesting to see it done by Jason Eisner (Hobo with a Shotgun) or someone with a similar "throwback" aesthetic.
roadwork's a depressing read, and more people should check it out, too. along with long walk and even blaze. blaze would make a brutal and bleak movie too.
I don’t remember the context in which I used that term, but I may have already made that vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6H05T7GYBzA.html
+Christian Brooks horror comes in all different flavors, but to me Richard Laymon's THE WOODS ARE DARK is one of the most intense, both in its pace and how extreme its content. You've been warned!
As soon as I saw the video topic, I thought 'oh, man, I'd love a movie for The Long Walk', so high-five for that. It's my favorite SK story. Aside from that, my list would be: - Cell - The Fireman - Sleeping Beauties (Tbh, I didn't love this one, but I do think it would make a fun movie.) - A Good Marriage (A short story in Stephen King's Full Dark, No Stars) Take out Stephen King and all of his spawn, and I'd love to see a movie for Slade House. House of Leaves too, though I'm not sure a movie could affect me the way the book did. I wouldn't sleep with it on my bed. Haha Anyway, just found your channel. I'm a big horror fan, so I'll definitely check out more of your stuff.
Ha! Excellent taste, Krys. I think they actually did make a movie of A GOOD MARRIAGE (and BIG DRIVER and 1922... that collection got adapted *quick*). I think it was a TV movie, haven't seen it, but love the novella.
Hey man! Nice videos, I can see that you know a lot about horror novels and I was wondering if you can recommend me a horror novel. I really like novels that are open to interpretation like bird box were you really didn't know why the things were happening. I just bought House of Leaves by the recommendation of a friend, what kind of novels with a creepy feel can you recommend? Thanks in advance and keep up your videos!
Sarah Langan's The Missing has a good creep factor to it with limited justification/explanation for the stuff that's happening to the world/characters. Thanks for watching!
I think it was a couple of years ago during Black Friday or Cyber Monday. So I don't remember how much they were, but it was significantly cheaper than MSRP. Great flicks!
I wish there was a good way to find horor novels :> I'm trying to remember a novel I read years ago, about a highrise that had some mysterious event going on it and some people were trapped in it, and you couldn't touch it with flesh or it would absorb, think it has some name like...dark lightning or such, related to what causes the effect.
Summer of Night like someone else said would be a good one to get adapted, the Tomb by Paul F. Wilson great action, horror novel, the Darkness or the Guardian by John Saul, and I think Dean Koontz's Shadowfires would be perfect for an adaption it is probably out of all his novels I read the best suited to be made into a movie.
Awesome video, I've just recently started reading books. I just started with Tom Clancys Splinter Cell, just picking randomly something that sounded interesting. Then reading The Omen, since I enjoyed the movie. I'm trying to make reading a hobby as I do enjoy a great story. Do you have any recommendations for horror books that wouldn't intimidate a new reader, I'm talking length wise as well as complexity. I'm a huge horror fan in film, but nothing scares me. I'm hoping to find a good intro to horror with a great story and lingering creepyness.
Sorry for the delayed response! Not going to pimp my own books (thought a few of them fit that description because I tend to write shorter books), but I will say that DREAM WOODS by Patrick Lacey may end up being exactly what you're looking for. It's about a killer amusement park and is kind of like SILENT HILL meets Disney World. Here's the amazon link: amzn.to/2nkOJht I hope you keep reading in the genre!! It's the best.
Thanks Kitty. :) I'm sure there will be a few more "pure book" videos coming down the pipeline, but all my movie reviews have book recommendations to accompany them, so in a way I talk books every week!
This was a very wonderful list you composed but its missing something major, a Huge author that you missed H. P. lovecraft a iconic horror author I don't know if you didn't have any books with you but could you have at least shouted him out or a honorable mention
Yo, Adam! Would you be up for reading and reviewing my horror prison novel, BLACK MOUNTAIN, on your channel?? I could send you a free autographed hardback.
House of Leaves would be lit. The thing is it wouldn’t be just one movie. It could be a tv series with a short film (because of a part of the story) it would be interesting. :)
I almost bought "Haunt" a couple of weeks ago but I ended up buying "Hex" by Thomas Olde Heuvelt and I have to say, I really enjoyed that one. It had me on the edge of my seat a lot of the time and what stood out to me was that despite it being a supernatural book it was extremely modern and inclusive of modern elements and technology. I would quite enjoy to see them make a film out of that one.
Adam Cesare Thanks for the recommendation! HEX really is a good book, definitely worth the read to me (I'll be honest, I started reading one evening and didn't stop until I'd finished the book at 2am 😅)
