I have two related questions about the legality of certain cubes: 1. Would a textured cube where each face has a different texture be considered illegal? 2. Are the six standard face colors mandatory, or could you use a cube with a different coloring scheme? I feel like either one of these would be beneficial for colorblind or visually impaired cubers.
1. No www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/#3d1a 2. If you're colourblind or need different colours then go for it! www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/#3a3
I have some colorblindness and have competed in WCA competition before. Using an alternate color scheme for my puzzles was perfectly fine, though I did get a few friendly questions from other competitors. I believe that as long as each side is easily differentiated at a glance, any color scheme is allowed. My cube was black instead of white, bright pink instead of red and lavender instead of orange and I used different shades of yellow, blue and green than on a standard cube.
