My journey of 5 years long disgusting acne was finished with Tretinoin 0.5 topical ointment. Yes , Tretinoin is the best treatment out there. Moreover,it was Dr. Iddrisss who introduced me with Tretinoin. Love you doctor 💝
Great information. A follow up video or part 2 of how you can use these together would be helpful! Assuming you need to cycle with some of them or apply particular ones in the morning and at night etc.
I use the PanOxyl every morning for a couple minutes and then wash off. I use tretinoin every night (but you have to work up to that.) I use the BHA once a week and also exfoliate a couple other times during the week with an AHA. I use the Azelaic Acid every night. Paula's choice is better than The Ordinary, but I haven't tried Peach Slices yet. It's cheaper than PC, so I'll try it next.
@@IngerNordahl Hello 😊 would you be able to share a few things regarding your routine? What strength panoxyl do you use? What order do you apply your azelaic acid and tret? Also what night moisturiser do you use? Sorry for all the questions!
@onewhitewolf13 I was using the equate (Walmart brand) version of panoxyl but they changed the formula to add an abrasive grit, so now I'm using the brand name stuff. Both are 10%. I just leave it on while I'm brushing my teeth in the am and then wash it off. It's been a game change for my breakouts though. I like Paula's Choice azaleic acid which I add to my nighttime moisturizer, which is Aveeno calm and restore oat gel moisturizer. I start my night with Cerave Pm moisturizer and then I apply my prescription tret (0.5%). I'm up to 3 nights a week applying my tret without the cerave pm moisturizer first. For my neck, I use an Olay retinol (purple 2 pack from costco). I don't apply the azaleic acid/moisturizer until after I've brushed my teeth and flossed, giving my tret a bit of time to soak in. Hope this helps.
Great list, I’m a dermatology PA and find a lot of these ingredients work well for my patients as well. Only suggestion if you could just hold the product instead of moving it so much while you talk so we can better see it while you’re talking about it or insert a photo of it 😊
Were they hormonal and cystic? I’ve read it’s only suitable for mild acne but since you mentioned you were on accutane twice. So I might have some hope
I went back to a dermatologist for the first time in years in the winter. She has me on tretinoin, moisturizer and gentle cleanser at night, and a benzoyl peroxide wash and clyndamicine (sp) in the day. I feel like the benzoyl is making my blackheads worse somehow? Like the gunk in my pores is oxidizing more. I've had acne and oily skin for 23 or more years and I swear nothing has helped but oral doxycycline, which I was told you can't take all the time. I've accepted acne at this point, but nearing 40 the huge pores and blackheads definitely make me feel worse about myself. I just want smoother texture and clarity
I've had acne/pimples focused on my chin since I'm a teenager. I'm 32 now and recently cut all dairy/lactose from my diet. Everything almost vanished in 2 months. We should talk about this solution as well... dairy products are massive hormones disruptors.
Hii Shereen 🥰 I was wondering if you might ship your products to Scandinavia in the future? I live in Sweden & I would love to be able to buy your vitamin C serum and other. I really appreciate you and everything you do. Thank you for helping to educate!
My dermatica retinol complex is the only thing that clears my acne plus I took oral accutane so Vitamin A has been my saviour. I'm lucky I live in the UK as we have free healthcare so that too has helped to clear everything for me
Hello! Brazilian la roche posay has a 'High Tolerance' effaclar cleansing gel with an ingredient called caprylyl glycol. I've never seen anyone talking about it. It doesnt seem to have sal acid or other ingredients I usually associate with effaclar. Can you talk a bit about how it works?
Hello Dr. Idriss, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and expertise. I am 62 years young and still have a very oily Tzone. As a tried and true 'pimple popper' most of my life, I have enlarged pores on and beside my nose. I use all the Major Fade products, Pan Oxyl 2x/week, Finacea 15% 2x /week and have just started using Neutrogena Oil Free Acne wash once a day. Even with my anti acne regime and stopping to squeeze out the excess sebum and blackheads - they are still there and don't diminish in size. Is there something else I should or shouldn't do? Is it because my pores are enlarged that they keep filling up? Thank you
Maybe need to test for h pylori, one bacteria stays in your stomach (even though you maybe don't have stomach symptoms like stomach pain, reflux, gerd etc). If so, this could be the cause of your acne and blackheads. And solution is 2-3 weeks of antibiotics. Then your pores would be all cleared up.
Dear Shereene, I just discovered your channel. Thank you so much for all the useful videos! I was wondering if and how these 5 products can be combined in a morning and night routine? And can they be combined with niacinamide? Thank you so much in advance!
Now that the summer is here and I am ditching the long sleeves, I still struggle trying to find a BODY SUNSCREEN that doesn't get slick and sticky, wet and gross on my walk to work (daily use, not by the pool or beach)...it sticks to my hair, my clothes, my bag, the body screen gets on everything as I sweat!!! Help, I need a NONE STICKY, SLICK body sunscreen and haven't had any joy yet!!! please do a list if you can, I am trying to cover up but it is the same struggle every year here in Bermuda where it is very humid.
Hi Shereene! I enjoy your content a lot - I follow different dermatologists and they all explain thing differently about the retinoid family. If a product is an over the counter one - they say there is no way to say that something is stronger\weaker\better\worse than another, both in regards of the type of retinoid (not enough studies yet to say retinal/granactive is more effective than a retinol just because it requires less conversion steps - not to mention the fact that will also depend on the formulation if those products ever get to do what they're meant to or not/reach the layers of the skin etc. This obvs doesn't apply for prescriptions since they have been tested and proven to deliver specific results. What are your thoughts?
Can you give us your thoughts on why tretinoin is prescribed only in some countries and in others is OTC? Is it ok according to you to be prescription only or vice versa?
I just love your videos. I do have a skincare routine and it works. However, where I live they just opened up a "HeyDay Spa" customized facials. I see they are growing and opening in many locations. I would like to dedicate time and skin services to my skin. I just turned 40. My question: Is HeyDay worth the membership price for their monthly facials and services or am I better off going to a dermatologist/medical spa? No one has really done a video on the difference between these types of skincare spas vs. medical spas...
You don't need all 5 of them Try using either benzoyl peroxide face wash or salicylic face wash and a gentle retinoid If you are a regular retinol user, you can add azelaic acid in your routine or you can use sulfur as a spot treatment
Good to know all these 5 ingredients, is using one of them enough? Or do we need more? Please do a follow up vedio Dr.Idriss!!!!!!!which one to choose? What to use alone with them? I know you have said don't use retinol with silicic acid. Do we need to use silicic acid daily? With so much acid and retinol in a lot of products it's dangerous for skin. I now regret buy the cerave SA face wash which I use daily and my white and black heads are clearing off , but after using it at night, I can't use cerave retinol serum after😢😢😮
Hello, i love this video, but could you prehaps make video about acne on dry skin. My skin is very dry and sensitive, but i struggle with acne. I try to listem to derms but most of the time the stuff that they say should work, doesnt really, it might be because of missuse, but i dont know. I used a SA cleanser for over a year but the Second i switched to a cleanser with hyaluronic a it my acne got better i dont understand.
Can you make a video of how to incorporate these products. I feel like you cannot use them all at the same time. Like AM and PM routine examples. Pretty please! Also, can retinols be used with peptides?
I love sulfur! More specifically, I love sulfur hot springs. I went to Japan 2 months ago, went to an onsen that had an outdoor pool that I didn’t realize was a sulfur springs. My body had never felt smoother or softer. I will definitely try out the sulfur products!!
Hi Shereene, could you talk about an azelaic acid derivative - potassium azeloyl diglycinate, or PAD. This ingredient is becoming popular because it's more application-friendly compare to azelaic acid.🙏
I used AHA, BHA but my acne wasn't fully clear. But 3 months ago I tried tretinoin (retinoid acid). in the first 2 months it gave me purging. Now, I have never seen acne appears in my face for the last 3 weeks and my skin has never been better 🤩
Thank you so much for this video, I’ve definitely struggled a lot with acne transitioning into my late 20s (teens weren’t fun either but I’ve definitely noticed an uptake later on) but this was super helpful. I’m starting Esthetician school in December and I’ve been binge watching your videos to help me prepare for school and get my product knowledge up. Love your videos doc 🩵
Thank you so much for this! I’ve struggled with acne since 6th grade - 28 now and still battle with hormonal / inflammatory breakouts but I’m figuring it out. We appreciate you
Would love to see a video with top ingredients for dehydrated sensitive skin (combo or dry). I have combo dehydrated skin, it’s a struggle to find the right products!
Dr idriss vous êtes un diamond rare dans la communauté, j'ai appliqué tous vos conseils depuis 2 ans mnt et ma peau n'a jamais été aussi belle merci du fond du cœur vous êtes la meilleure ❤❤❤
Thank you. Benzol peroxide spot treatments don't do anything for my pimples. Including the La Roche-Posay. They all look the same the next morning. Truly effective spot treatments is what I'd like to hear about.
Tret was great but BENZOYL PEROXIDE 5% Acnecide which I avoided for 14 years was incredible for huge areas of back acne which persisted despite tret ointment. Salicylic 2% cleansers like LRP Effaclar Micro Peeling or Inkey Salicylic are amazing maintenance treatments for nose deep blackheads, used daily and left on nose for 5 minutes before rinsing off. Use gentle cleanser everywhere else.
Which retinol product would be good for acne and wrinkles? I just bought Differin for the hormonal acne i still get around my jawline but would also like a product I can benefit from for all over the face.
When I started taking high doses of vitamin B, especially Biotin, to deal with my PCOS hair loss, my skin started breaking out. As soon as I stopped taking those supplements after a month, my skin calmed down within a week. Can higher doses of vitamin B / Biotin actually cause breakouts? And if they do, what do you suggest?
Yes yes and yes. I have ADHD and don’t get medication where I live, the only thing that improves my symptoms is B12 however it gives me nightmarish, painful, cystic acne. Ditto for Biotin which is great for my hair. So I guess it’s either a clear mind or a clear face/fuller hair
A great sulfur product if you're willing to spend the money is the Sulfur Clay mask from Peter Thomas Roth. A lot of people might not like it because it's fragranced however it's a very medical fragrance smell and it does NOT smell like sulfur which is a huge bonus. In my experience you only get a whiff of the sulfur smell once you start washing it off with water. Until then though I've left it on my skin for hours with absolutely no terrible rotten egg smell.
How do I choose products if I’m almost 40, seeing signs of aging skin, and still have acne? I’ve been using adapalene .1% for acne for awhile (several years), but I’m not thrilled with the acne results and it’s done nothing for aging. I recently started adding 2% salicylic acid on my non-adapalene days and the acne has gotten a bit better, but it’s not quite enough. And still nothing happening with the aging. My gut says switch to The Ordinary retinol & alternate that with 2% salicylic acid. I can’t tolerate niacinamide except around my eyes. Everywhere else gives me the worst breakouts. If anyones bern through this, please let me know your experience. (I watched the skincare in your 30s video, but it didn’t address this.)
@@nadiaelkaid7131 Yes. At night after shower. moisturizer let it dry down then Salicylic acid or Azelic acid let it dry down the sme moisturizer as before let it dry down then Retinol.
What do u recommend for someone who only gets tiny white heads around their mouth? I have hydradentitis supprativa along with acne inversa and am wondering if this is the cause. What should I do?
I've been using the Tower 28 hypochlorous acid spray for maskne and it has helped significantly. And The Ordinary's salicylic acid masque on my nose to help with my huge pores. 🍓😅
omg yes! Dr. Idriss got me on the Walgreen's hypochlorous acid a year ago (a lot cheaper) and it's done wonders. Use it on my face when I feel bumps under my skin and my back as well (when I workout and can't shower immediately. I break out so badly on there)
@lindamenina109 yes! Just spray it whenever. Its gentle for the skin and doesn't interrupt the pH. Dr. Idriss recommended it for mask acne but I use it for acne in general on my face and back.
Thank you for this great informative video. I have a question here, all these 5 retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, sulfur are best acne treatment products. But which one to start with? or can i use them all simultaneously?
Dear Dr. Idriss, could you kindly suggest a good cleanser and moisturizer , I am 48 years old and my skin is very oily. within half an hour of washing my face and using moisturizer and spf the oil starts to build on my face and I cannot put any makeup on as it will just melt :( thank you
This was an awesome video. I have incorporated sulfur into my routine and it has made such a difference!! Can I combine salyclic, azaelic acid with suflfur?
SEBORREIC DERMATITIS: Do a video on seborrreic dermatitis (SD) with sensitive skin, where you adresse: 1) how to manage/treat SD related chronic redness/erythema on the face, and 2) skin care recommendation for SD (as products that restore skin barrier function via lipids/oils/ceramides tend to aggravate SD)
Retinoids are wonderful! But it's also important to keep in mind that Dr. Albert Kligman conducted his research on Retin-A by experimenting on incarcerated people at Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia without informed consent from 1951-1974. His research changed dermatology but it also now serves as an example of extremely unethical research.
If we shouldn’t use retinol around our mouths, how do we treat the breakouts there? Most of my acne is hormonal, around my mouth and on my chin and jawline.
I already use EpiDuo, which has benzoyl peroxide and adapalene. Should I also include salicylic acid and azelaic acid into my routine? And if yes, how? Thank you so so much for your videos
Thanks for this! I've had to stop my topical application of differin and isotretinoin for my never ending acne breakouts as I'm about to start my egg freezing process. What about topical antibiotics? I have been prescribed clindamycin by my derm.
I used a salicylic cleanser, then vitamin c, moisturizer and then spot treatment with benzoyl peroxide. My acne cleared up pretty well. But I still have some texture so I'm thinking of switching my vitamin c to retinol
Benzoyl peroxide and retinols shouldn’t be used at the same time. One is an oxidant and the other is an anti-oxidant. They will cancel each other out and be useless.
I started using retinal lowest percentage from Medik 8 since March, 1-2 times per week. I’ve been breaking out since then, I don’t know if its purging or not, but I don’t want to continue using it. I’ve never been prone to acne or any breakouts before, which makes me think it is not for me at this point.
Forehead acne. Initially we’re not red. Now they are bumpy and red. Previous ones have turned brown unfortunately. What do I do for over the counter meds
Shereene ı really love your videos may ı ask something so loreal revitalift pure retinol is an anti aging product can ı use it for acne if ı am a 15 yo? please answer it🥺
How to incorporate them in your routine ? Obviously we cannot use all the actives ones. Can you pls suggest which one should you use as first line and then switch to other active
