There is absolutely too many variables in window washing to make a good tutorial. 10 years on the job and sometimes I still come into challenges that catch me by surprise. You forgot to mention : weekly jobs that the masonry guys sling concrete on. Or stubborn green pollen during the spring season- a lot of the time these weekly's are harder to scrub than any quarterly jobs .Brass handled flatties that slide whenever there is ice in the bite. Squeezing over bushes. Squeegee near wasps nests Squeegeeing behind partitions with about 4" iof room. Squeegeeing and scrubbing the inside of Burger Kings with Broiler smog on the uppers. Salt buildup on your lower seals during winter .(Can't leave it ). Bending your channel on the job..... 1000 variables so this would rank as a very general tutorial
When people have pain windows like that there's always some new guy who will quote them low because their desperate to pay their phone, get weed or pay their hotel. I hate customers that say good luck after you leave their door like they feel sorry for you. Little do they know we make more than they do two houses down. Then they chase you down the street wanting to be like their neighbors. I love the blacklisted customers my proteges and I refuse to do. We actually all talk in San Diego and they complain on our companies saying we won't do their windows or deal with them. They actually write things on Yelp because we won't work for them. Favorite quote, "you'll never work in this neighborhood again my husband's like the mayor of this street". 5 grand later they're peeking out their blinds like tweekers. Aholes. Am I burned out? Am I sick of climbing g ladders. YEEEESSSSS! I need 20 grand in the bank and I'm through. Starting the ocean cleanup company. Thanks for the supportive videos that inspire so many new guys. I'm a 41 year old burned out Ahole sick of the same however many thousand customers every year that push a few buttons on a computer and are rich and care more about the way their windows look than their kids that just sit inside playing Candy crush. No skaters no football in the street. Just hunkered down in the depths of their devices and Taylor swift or whoever they listen too. Walking down the street is like walking in a ghost town. Death to the ring doorbell, cameras and the cell phone. Who am I to talk. I need some meds. 😂😂😂
I totally understand. 15 years cleaning windows. I only have one review on Google from a caller who got mad when told we are not accepting any new customers.
Pretty good video. Especially the part about underbidding. Been cleaning windows 20+ years and I still do it sometimes. We gotta remember, $100 - $200 isn't that much money to most people who hire window cleaners. People in our tax bracket usually buy windex. One thing I just don't do, though is take a belt bucket inside a house. I do very little route work these days and never wear one, actually. It's a drip waiting to happen. Also, as your wife did in the beginning of the video, it saves a lot of time to pull the squeegee to the bottom then use it to clean the ledge.
If you have a handy way of getting those types of windows open id love to hear it. I find customers dont like you banging their windows open or having to pry them open with a tool because that can sometimes mess up the paint.. I was thinking maybe using my scrapper to cut in between (maybe a box cutter). But I could use a better option.
Well done to my new friends! I am a new subscriber and I want to share why. It was immediately obvious how skilled both are in your trade, i never knew window washing was an art form... until I watched your technique! You are great teachers, fun & funny personalities, & you delivered valuable content. I am in fact a newbie window cleaner, I watched one of your videos, it wasn’t what I needed. This video on the other hand was exactly what I was looking for, my first day was slow moving, today is literally day 2, I have a good feeling things are going to move along much smoother today, I will let you know how it goes. Do you have any videos that specifically talk about how to bid a job. I would love to know how to charge what I am worth. I love clean work, what will set me apart from the rest? I want repeat business, referrals, and great reviews, Maximize profits, save time, avoid accidents, and know which tools to use or avoid. Thank you kindly! -Adam
I just found this channel today. This is the first vid I've watched of yours, very good content. Informative as f*ck. Thank you. I have a cleaning business called A+ Cleaning & Labor Salem, Or.
Oldie mistake….not appreciating how great your woman is to roll with you. True reason is she is there to make your life better. She is a treasure. She is so smart. You better feel you are luckiest the guy in the world.
I'm the best salesman and fastest worker I've ever come across with the most drive and ambition when I'm in stealth mode out in the field. I've never drawn a blank they call me thousand dollar Jake because I don't come home until I've generated it like clockwork for over ten years and people don't understand how I go out to the field with a pen and some flyers and hand out hundreds to them at the end of the day everyday. Wake up, go to the field, leave the guys out there and Lyft home. The times changing soon. Like Marty Huggins said. I hate daylight savings time nobody likes it when it gets dark early. But the 187 customers houses I hung Christmas lights for last year sure do. Why is everyone happy except for me? Anxiety sucks ass. Work a week something so minor throws me off then I don't open the front door for two weeks🤔🤔🤔🤔 it's a conspiracy. The Truman show. Very interesting subject
One of my employees is a very hard worker and gets here at like 6a to start his day cleaning windows. The only thing is that he works harder and not smarter. I also have just noticed that he has started some bad habits with his window cleaning like toweling more than just around the edges or picking up the squeegee in the middle of the window. Do you have any advice for me to help him out?
I started out with liquidators and I'm very happy! However I am thinking of switching over to wagtail for some of my higher jobs. But I guess it's just what you're raised on.
Get a simple old fashioned set of plain brass squeegees with old style brass handles. They are cheaper, easier on the hands with less fatigue, and the set I have is over ten years old with no repairs or replacements, they never wear out. You really only need one clip, not two so don't worry about that plus if you have a paint spot or something and forgot your scraper, brass is softer than glass and will not scratch it. All the new quick change, stainless and plastic handles break and need replacing and most of them are too thick and cause hand fatigue. Once you get used to the brass squeegees you will never go back. I tried them all.
Hey everyone! I love watching all these window cleaning videos from WCR, Luke, and others. I live in a two-story house and enjoy cleaning our windows. Now I’ve been spending the last month watching, reading, learning about the industry, products, how to start up, etc. I have a lot of confidence in starting my own window cleaning business, but I do have one question to ask amongst the community regarding physical ability to do the job... I’m a short man, 5’1, but I’m strong, not afraid of ladders and heights, and a lot of drive to work and run my own business. Is my height, or lack thereof, going to be an issue physically doing this as a career? And if so, what are the reasons?
Hello guys I'm up here in Alaska and watchn your video. I love your style and am going to definitely incorporate your mop squeegee combo method into my technique. Would like to see a tech. for hot windows that you've come up with. I have quite a few store fronts that are tall and very wide. And it's the second year owning my own biz and after watching you guys I'm most definitely intrigued by your approach and style. You going to laugh but in my venture I add ice to my solution and it allows me to operate solo. Try it you might like it. Lol Also up here it's 6 months summer six months winter. Want to know what your suggestion would be for iceing while working in extreme low temperatures. I've used a number of different chems but find 90% iso propel alcohol works because of it's ability to instantaneously melt ice.???????? Let me know, good on both of you. Hi from New York! To combat the colder temperatures we generally suggest working with wind shield fluid in your solution, or working with it straight in warm water. For the warmer temperatures and hot windows, we suggest adding more "slip" to your solution, something like Hi Slide, or EBC Glide are great options as it slows down evaporation times and increases the glide of your squeegee on glass.
Hello, I'm a window cleaner. I bought moerman's excellerator 2.0 squeegee but unfortunately | can't wash windows with it because it's full of micro traces, even with a brand new rubber strip, I tried all the angles and nothing changes! Can you help me understand how this squeegee works? Thank you very much for your help and your response, see you soon!
Can someone tell me how you would clean shop windows that have stickers on them (like marketing and promo stickers)?? Do you avoid and work around them or can you go straight over it?? Thank you in advance
Depends on the material of the sticker. If it is Vinyl/waterproof, you can most likely go right over them. Always double check when you are unsure, though!
I know I limit my income because of charging by the hour but that's how I do it. average ticket is 200 to 250. I make enough to live comfortably and provide
hello guys... i follow ur all epidodes n i also wana do window cleaning work by my own n m frm australia n i dnt know how much to charge fr the glasses n how the pricing is here in australia so is there any idea guys... thanks
I do a couple things different. I use a full carpenters belt that has 2 big pockets and 3 smaller. The left big pocket houses 2 cycling bottles. You control water indoors, don't run out on a roof, doesn't leave water all over the deck and then footprints walking in it. A carpenter belt also holds my phone, etore scrapper, two wet cloths and 4 finishing. Also, I don't have a Hutterite, Mormon, ZZ Top beard and arm tatoos. Most residential clients are women over the age of 30 to 80. They much prefer someone clean cut and presentable with the soft skills of life. Did you notice how he prefaced with WHATS UP. If you ever had a job at a Hyatt regency you learn certain ways to present yourself to distinguished customers. This level of professionalism pays off. First rule of any business, the customer makes the rules. Self expression and language determines how they make their decisions.
Lots of slamming the blade at the finish.... Amateur video, guys..... The bird needs more over hang on the blade..... You could also show the whole clean of the window..... All in all its not a professional cleaning video.... Like your beard tho mate....👍👌
We all use 24 to 30 inch sorbo channels and janitor fan. Better on your wrists over time. Plus, we carry 4’ x 2’ cotton towels. Don’t take a resort beach towel into a home. You will knock over valuables on counters and possibly trip up on a roof due to its extra length.
Oh Jesus dear Lord please don't make me be a window cleaner at 50 years old. Okay no meds I'll listen to Tool now. Opiate. 41 year old Saturday night. Wish I hadd good looking girlfriend as my widow cleaning partner FML sorry for the negativity.
For those of you that are new. I charge by the minute. If it takes me 8 minutes it's an $8 window. That's high for my market but I guarantee no drips dots streaks or lines. I clean every sill scrape and polish every window. So while a double hung with no storm is 8 base a double hung storm is actually 12 plus the interior window. The storm takes longer because you need to remove the screen. So it's not just double it's double plus the disassembly time so a double hung is $8 a double hung with a storm is $20. Yes it's a hike but that's what I charge and people will pay for the quality.
Good video as always Luke,a question about the black extension Pole that you had the liquidator hooked up to,what brand is it,thanks and glad you guys are doing well!
Whats a good combo squegee had the backflip nut i guess it was a cheap one.. did my house windows and scratch the glass.. read reviews on it and people said same thing...
I have a question on your moarman channel did you take the end clips off or is a different channel because I use standard Ettore channels in me handles and it works great for me just wondering what you are doing
Would recommend that you charge by the hour.i do this here in Finland.saves so much fuss and you don't have to worry about under cutting yourself. You're both professional, i think your customer can see that.the going rate here in Finland at the moment is 37€ per hour, which is a good living.i make more at window cleaning than i ever did in construction. Keep up the good work. Love from finland❤️
Sometimes making changes to your equipment might make your job become much easier. For instance I made a WFP system that operates with a mop instead of a brush. The mops I use all have adjustable angles and this makes the WFP system even better when you need to work in tight restricted areas that make it impossible to use the standard brush. Also another tip is to learn to use all brands of squeegees. An Ettorie or Sorbo squeegee can be used for most jobs. Some window cleaners prefer only to use one of these types, however if you learn to use both you will find out that these two types of squeegeeing have advantages that you can use over the other one. Thus making you more capable of preforming the tasks.
Good video, I've been a window cleaner since 2007 and learned something new. On thing I would also suggest is to tilt the channel only to 45deg between cutin and close out. Less turn marks, and those made are caught.
