Excellent video. I mostly agree with your philosophy. Good job. While not a GX460, I made the following mods to our 2021 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium: 1) changed to Falken Wildpeak tires in stock size. (Cost about $1000; sold stock tires for $300 on Craigslist.); 2) RCI aluminum skid package. Fuel tank skid was steel; 3) RCI sliders; 4) Rhinorack roof rack. Very happy with these choices after 2 seasons of overlanding/off-roading. Additionally, I added traction boards; recovery strap; tree strap; rear recovery point for stock hitch, like the one pictured in your video; air compressor; diy tool kit from things I already had; extra jack; and various other safety/recovery related goodies. FYI, the roads we drive include green and blue roads as per the Wells and Peterson Funtreks books. Examples of blue we have done here in Colorado include Medano Pass, Ophir Pass, Yankee Boy Basin blue portion, and Engineer Pass. Not set up for (nor do I wish to drive) "red" roads such as Black Bear Pass, and Poughkeepsie Gulch in southwestern Colorado. Our vehicle is not a rock-crawler and is intended toward the moderate roads that are not known to tear things up. With stock lift height and stock size tires, I have had no problems navigating the example roads above. Moreover, I average a respectable 18.9 mpg using 87 octane gas. The only thing I am considering next is when I replace tires, probably will go for 6 or 10 ply tires in place of the 4 ply SL load rating tires that I have. Have had no issues with these, but in the future, I believe increasing the load range will provide a margin of safety hopefully to help prevent sidewall punctures. Probably will stay with Falkens in stock size of 265/70R17; however might go up a size to 275/70R17 with load rating C with plies. The 4runner forums suggest that the 275s will not rub and work fine. Expect to take a mpg hit going to the heavier tires, but that is ok.
Thank you for sharing thus feedback 😀. Your mods sound wonderful. What kind of traction boards do you recommend? Also have you had any issues using 87 gas? Thank you for subscribing ❤️ 😍 💖
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD For boards, I bought a lower priced set from Amazon, the name I can't recall. So far, have not used them. No issues on using 87 octane gas; no knocking. 87 is what Toyota recommends.
Here are my top 5 modification on my car. 1. a dog sticker on the back window. 2. Sport decals on the car 3. a rubber duck stuck on top of the side mirror 4. reflective stickers on the bumper 5. painted the rims black with a brush
Great video my man. Accessibility, protection and recovery are sooooo much more important than a 2.5 inch $5000 lift kit. If you were to add a sixth mod I would consider tires. Also have you ever thought about a video on how to winch out on the Mojave dessert. Cause I know you are not hooking up to dessert shrubs. LOL!
I did a number to my gas skid over Labor Day weekend and am considering steel over aluminum due to it being a leading edge. How are the RCI aluminum holding up? Surprisingly the front skid is still in okay condition- a few dents but prioritizing the exposed bits first- trans, tcase.
I just noticed I have crunched the gas tank skid like you, and ordered aluminum skids from Asfir. Steel is better for hardcore wheeling because it isn't as "sticky" when trying to slide over a rock, but I got aluminum for weight and corrosion resistance as I live in the rust belt.
How many pieces of the skid do you have on your car and what are they? Thanks. Just saw their website and found many skids that some of which may not be necessary.
Curious what size wheels you're running - I'm putting together a build with my '15 GX460, and started with ordering the following; 2" Icon Stage 3 Lift, SSO Sliders, CBI bumper, CBI front and Trans Skids. Super Excited to see this through!
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Nice! I'm running the same with some Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's, but thinking about what sizes 33", etc folks have had luck with. I'll take every inch of clearance I can get lol!
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Thank you, will do - also, I just checked with DV8Offroad and they could not verify that the bumper fits on a 2022 as they have not tested it.
@@CeeJay591 it should fit, but do NOT attach the side wing supports to the body.. just let them hang on the central bumper section.... we actually picked the dv8 up locally at their warehouse in riverside CA... in case you are local... ✌️
