Thanks to this video I just locked in my level 5 wild hunt shifter (wolf totem barb 3 rogue 2 will be phantom) I am flavoring him as a kitsune which allows him to lead dead souls on to the grave (we have a grave domain cleric in the party for more flavor). This build is to help the party inquisitive rogue feel extra good and the paladin will enjoy advantage and add more to my defenses

What about Paliwhirl, Paliwrath, and Palitoed?

@@TheClericCorner If I was the Dm, I would make the campaign naval based if that was the party makeup. Speaking of naval campaigns, what be REALLY cool would be if the Living Weapon Monk was official... Just pick (v)human for race and traveler's blade (and little bit of Rune Knight) and you have a sea worthy pirate! The backstory could be that you ate a magical fruit instead of the classic Shaolin dojo flavor.

You can only enter the lamp once per long rest, I think. You'd need to figure out how to cover the other 20 hours of time outside.

Sounds like the problem was the DM, not the character. It's a (mostly) collaborative game. Unless he told you from the start he hates fish people, he should have worked with you. He should not have approved the character if he wouldn't allow things to work for you.

@@markuhler2664 Yeah, obviously it was an issue with the DM, I'm just saying that big words like "suffocate" on a feature can create a bit of a window for things to happen. I've since spoken thoroughly to the DM before any character creation

@@thebigspook Trying to extract water from the arid air of the desert at 60% humidity is madness. People always go around selling those dehumidifiers to get some water out of air, miss the point that you need humidity. Usually, if there is no nearby water, the humidity is not that high. It is either a rainy place, or close to the sea.

I mean, there are SEVERAL sources of water you can pull from in a desert. Your sweat, your urine, people, the ground, the air, and whatever living things you can find. A Locathah can survive in a desert if crafty enough. With magic all things are possible

I think most DMs will have peace domain cleric banned, it's the most OP class in the game and really not fun for your DM to deal with, it'll ruin campaigns.

True, but thats when you look at separating the mechanics from the flavor. For example: the flavor of a Warforged is that they're robotic soldiers given their freedom, but they could be reflavored to be golem, sentient suits of armor, etc. Simic Hybrids do have the unfortunate part of having their name lock them in to their world, but many worlds have mad scientists who'd experiment with magic, or powerful beings who would bless/curse someone with animal like features. (Whether it's a blessing or a curse would depend on their point of view.) So a Hybrid could be someone who ran afoul of a nature God and was cursed, or made a pact to become a GOOlock and the transformation was part of the deal. They don't specifically have to be scientific creations made by splicing peices onto other animals, nut even if they are, they don't specifically have to be tied to Ravnica. You just have to get a bit creative.

@@inkfae9916 in the older editions that's how it worked but with the move to 5e they simplified it to make it apply

Depends on the gm. Some are going to say psionic or not, it's a spell, so no go.

@@razorflossrazor2937 That's kind of why it applies when I DM. While I have only ran 5e, I still pull things from prior editions and the lore like how wyvern venom is supposed to be really strong and other wyverns hate the smell it as it is used to mark territory or having steel dragons. I also include the 2e spell sticks to snakes.

Yep, its a shame it takes two turns to get the combo going though. Since you have to rage and shift which both use a bonus action and your the bite attack also is bonus action to but once you get the combo going, longtooth beast barbarians are a force to be reckoned with.

@@Jw87563 indeed, the best part of being a player and a DM who does nothing but do the most nonsensical chaotic crap means that no one can predict what I’m going to do, which means I can keep my plot twists secret, and I can throw infinite wrenches into my DMs campaigns.

Considering your bonus actions are limited as a Barbarian, it’s only 1 round that you’re inconvenienced. My DM lets me shift as initiative is rolled, so I don’t have to deal with that though.

I typically play my wildhunt as a fighter. That Dex increase and wisdom really helps out for things and with a soldier background I get a lot done.

Yeah in a game I played before one of my friends played one and the other characters never saw a Gith before or knew what they were so the cleric party member asked “if they were a sickly jaundice afflicted elf that needing healing” lol

There is LOTS of great art of them, and plenty of it with just small noses rather than nose slits. This is likely because of the Balder's Gate character. But I made one and commissioned some great art for her.

Have your ally cast Enlarge on you (yes, it can stack with the Rune Knight ability) for extra fun.

Better yet, multiclass bard so you can enlarge yourself and pick up expertise in athletics, the build is in full swing at fighter 3/bard 3.

yeah I thought really hard about githzerai vs. githyanki, they're both great! You're 100% right in identifying that Githyanki make incredible wizards due to the armor, but I think githzerai make great wizards too, as well as great other classes that get more from a free sheild than from a free jump!

How about an owl, whole wisdom trope with them, survival skill is their excelent eye sight and they are nimble flyers. You can ve any animal depending on your back story, something like a blood hound experiment could work, even a snake if you strech it.Any tracking animal can work

I went the route of a simian/ape-like creature for my Moon Druid Wildhunt Shifter. Think Planet of the Apes or just how intelligent and perceptive primates can be and the +2 to Wis, bonuses to survival, and so on click into place.

Owl would be a cool choice. Hyena is a potential.

@@bmxriderforlife1234 the problem with an Owl build is that I know far too much about actual owls, so despite their reputation for wisdom they are actually the stereotypical Barbarian who dumped all their points into physical attributes and rolled a five or lower in their mental attributes. As for Hyena, there is some potential, but yet again I am a little too knowledgeable on said species. The spotted hyena, which is what most people who think of as the only hyena(there are three types, two omnivores and one insectovore) is a female dominant male submissive species. Hierarchy is matriarchal to the point having an erection actually pushes one down the pecking order. That might sound weird, but you simply have to understand one thing about hyenas: female hyenas have psuedo dongs, that they have to literally rip open externally to give birth to prevent themselves(and their litter) from dying. For those who have seen the Primal episode from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this knowledge takes on a whole new meaning and perspective to Xander becoming the Alpha Primal Hyena Spirit and the Scoobs the often references of Xander as "one of the girls". As someone looking to incorporate my animal knowledge into my shifter race, I can't help but dismiss the more common choices and my own personal favorites amongst the animal kingdom.

playing a wildshape druid you can always go circle of the moon, this gives you a BA wildshape. from there action strong concentration spell (moonbeam for passive AOE damage, faerie fire for permanent advantage + see invisible creatures, heat metal as passive damage + debuff if thrown on armor OR free disarm), bonus action wild shape, move somewhere where you can take an OA. then on every subsequent turn you have the concentration spell doing an effect while being able to use wildshape bear form to WHACK. alternatively you can go circle of stars and use your wildshape to take on the power of the stars and launch glistening glittering arrows of pure celestial energy as a BA. and still be able to do the above

@@dudesayswhat1011 Good advice. Circle of the Moon is one of the best combat Druids..You can heal your Animal Form by converting your prepared spells into 1d8 healing per Spell level.. And Bear in mind your Wildshaped Animal form takes the HP damage 1st, NOT YOUR CHARACTERS HP, until the Animal Form goes to zero HP..Then you immediately revert to your normal form, now susceptible to loosing your Characters HP..

They are both modified biologically and mechanically.

I miss the Skarn Warblade I made as a villain for one campaign, he was fun to play.

I like the extra reach of bugbears (another underrated race while we're on the subject) but a free grapple as a bonus action is just too good! Everyone else has to take a feat to get that, basically meaning Simic Hybrid get an extra ASI on every other grappling build!

Its really dependent on how much you get targeted by magic, which is usually a lot less than one would expect.

Standard US bathtub is full at 80 gallons. I don't see trouble submerging in that, unless you're a tall fish. Plus you'd displace 20 gallons. 80 gallons is 10 cubic feet. 60 around 7.5. Still hundreds of lbs. if you were to carry it, but a little more manageable.
