Oscar submissions are decided in September I believe and Tumbbad came out in October so it would contend for the next year. Gully Boy came out 3 months later and eventually took the slot. I agree though, Super Deluxe was an acting and story telling masterclass.

Did the Oscars think twice before nominating a newcomer Yalitza Aparicio for Best Actress even when she wasn't a professional actor, which was also at the cost of snubbing Toni Collette and Jennifer Lawrence. Did they consider twice before awarding Jennifer Hudson Best Supporting Actress even when she was unknown and wasn't even mentioned in the trailer of Dreamgirls? So stop with this irritating habit of dismissing indie and underrated performances and films as 'critics stuff'.. Dividing awards between Popular and Critics categories just shows the superficial and frivolous nature of award shows, who care more about star power and less about celebrating real art. I rest my case!

Unlike Filmfare where you give award for best actress to such an actor who had 15 minutes of role in film with very average acting, inspite of the face that there were far more powerful performance by every other actress in other movies even Kareena Kapoor in Good Newz.

So the award functions should award one of them undoubtedly, regardless of other criterions.
