At first I was like "this is gonna be like every other milwaukee fan video". Nope its more of a look at all this innovative people and the products they make to make the packout fit for everyone. TAKE MY MONEY. Ordering some of those plates now.
The funny thing is that 60 years ago most guys would build an entire house with little more than a handsaw, hammer, level, ruler/tape measure, a yankee screwdriver, Crescent wrench and a nailset. I've been using a lot of hand tools lately and I've found that they're actually faster and easier for most tasks rather than dragging all of the power tools out. The exception being drilling and driving more than a few screws. It's easy to see that a few hand tools and a cordless drill/driver set up will handle almost everything and fit into a single, smaller toolbox. I have such a box under the backseat of my truck and it's amazing what I can do with just the tools within.
@J Whitley Compare the time and effort it takes most contractors to set up, charge batteries, trips back to the truck/trailer, chasing down a tool on the job site, knocking everything back down and don't forget the weight of it all. I'm not sure how much planing you're doing but for a few edges a well tuned hand plane does the job in less time than having to go grab and set up even a cordless one and then there's the expense for a tool that may be used very little. I don't know about you but the only planing I've ever had to do is to clean up a few cut edges, ease a corner or two and plane down a door. All of which is very easy to do with a hand plane and one could argue that it does a better, more precise job. Interesting that you mention the Sawzall as I just had to cut roughly 30 long 2"x6" in half to get them out and down to the dump. I stacked them and grabbed my Sawzall thinking it would make quick work of the job with the new blade I installed and found that it wasn't a good choice as the blade was binding and it was much more effort than the small toolbox handsaw I had been using to cut them. I couldn't use a circular saw without removing a ton of nails. So it was back to the handsaw which sawed through them in no time, leaving me wishing I hadn't wasted the time and effort of retrieving, setting up and putting away the Sawzall. My point is that builders used to be able to do the same job with much less equipment that fit into a small tool box/tote that held everything they needed compared to the huge array of modular storage rigs, trucks and trailers of today and were independent of having power on the job site as well...something that anyone that's worked a summer or two in the North woods in the 1980's would appreciate. I think that most today would be surprised at how well and easily hand tools work to do many of the jobs they tackle on a daily basis. As I originally said, if you've got to drill/drive a lot of screws I'm grabbing a power tool the same as if I have to make multiple cuts on nail free lumber, etc., but I just marvel at the difference in the number of power tools/tools "needed" in a relatively short span of time.
Can't argue your point however the cordless tools available today make life a lot easier. There are a lot of tools that seem silly to many but are vital to others. When you need it, you need it, especially once you know it's out there. That being said tool whores do walk among us.
I work in IT and carry all kinds of computers, tools and networking stuff.. honestly, the cobra and the Kaizen foam really helped me protect and carry all that equipment with me.
You should come out with a design with the feet to mount the chargers to a lid or inside the boxes so you can set your charger on top, lock it down and not worry about it falling off when bumped and just a more stable mount when charger the bigger High Demand series batteries! Great video and can’t wait to get some mounts for my crates to help organize both my shop and my boxes!
If you're hanging crates on the wall, I found 2 cleats isn't enough to support any real weight. I broke 2 cleats. I recommend adding the center block style cleat for sidewall mounting
I’ve been hesitant about buying the packout cases. Right now I just use plastic totes to move tools around. After seeing the customization I might buy in to this system. Great video!
That Kaizen foam may well have persuaded me to buy some of this Packout. I can now box up my tools in an organised fashion, instead of just throwing them into a big box of mess.
Hey can I just say, you are my new favorite facetube person! Your brain moves as fast as mine. I hope I can make youtube videos that are as informative as I just watched with no BS. Just bought my first (2) stacks of Packout and am super stoked! I was using bags / tool bags or whatever people call them to transport mixed / moshed, whatever I could jam into them.... (super unorganized) to the job site. I love organization & customization! JACKPOT! You rock! Keep doing what you are doing. I haven't even finished the video (wanted to comment) & will go buy (hopefully you have a website!) some of your customized set-ups for the system.
I removed the center handle & pockets from a 15" tote & mounted my Oxy/Acetylene torches inside the tote & bolted the plastic torch case to the bag. Now, my torch set is a pack out tote with everything I need to weld refrigerant lines on board.
As a guy just getting started in the acquisition of tools for some DIY, this is an excellent video on how to get rolling! Thanks for the detailed input. Definitely will be following your work and sharing your videos with contractors I know.
This is an awesome video. My mind is running in overdrive right now. Ill definitely be making some of these mods soon. Thanks for the info and great ideas.
I ain’t gonna lie I got nervous when we were moving on to number 3 you hit us with that crazy hand motion I didn’t know what type of Kung fu shit to be expecting
Great video, love them all products, ideas, and 3D printed, and brackets. Very well organized and everything have its place. I smashed that “liked” button got that 700th
I’ve been trying to think of a way to cut out a little door for the bottom pack out wheeler. Especially with the new drawers coming out soon, I want to be able access all of my tools without having to unstack the boxes. It would be awesome for you to make something up or have any idea.
Just started a new job was looking for a idea to store and move tools and supplies from apartment to apartment. This looks like what I need. Thanks for a great video.
Wow seeing this for a wall mount setup. cut out a power stip to link power to packout setup for m18/m12 batteries and chargers. I rather it on the wall than in my box. The organization ability of these are sweet.
I honestly had no idea about all these mods for Packouts. I love the Milwaukee Packout system! Very nice video, thanks for the info and connecting to all the other "makers" 3D printers etc.
I know this is an older video but I'm looking into doing my own 3d printing without mortgaging the house lol. Can you tell me where a good place to start is...?
Thanks for all the information. I just started my own packout set up and really like it so far. Checking out what all is available. I really like those foam inserts. I'll check the site out. One question, the lid you have for the crates, does Milwaukee make those as well or are they 3D printed? Or are they 3rd party?
The very 1st thing I thought of was some kind of phone to secure my tools in a Box. So I bought some thick durable installation. Now I'm going to buy the kaizen foam
Went LAX-MIAMI AND BACK WITH 4 pack out cases no issues Except weight restrictions per each. However I’m military and was able to get an exemption on American. I was also worried initial too but they came thru like new. Important to note mine were priority bags not sure if that made handling any different
SORTIMO is the greatest option in the world to organize your tools. The greatest organization, mobility, customization, etc. I'm actually moving to Packout inside a pick up to Sortimo inside a Van.
So I can agree to a point. I have used both systems. The Sorttimo system is nice and the factory options are great, but the durability is just not there compared to Milwaukee. Now if you are just using them for parts then Go Sortimo.
Yes. I'm gonna get that Packout bracket for the front of rolling case and also wanted to get the Cord Cobra but they bot mount in the same place. Is there a Cord Cobra that mounts on the rear?
If you're 3D printing those attachments for the packouts, you should CNC the Kaizen inserts for the Milwaukee tools and even some generic ones for socket sets! Socket and wrench organizers are something I'd buy for my work truck!!!
I need to get a bunch of brackets made for the new shop! Just getting started in packout and having solidworks and a 3-D printer at my disposal should help lol
With those plates, feet and cleats, can convert ANY container into a Packout compatible. So if you invested in a different System you can integrate it into a Packout instead of throwing it out. Keep your power tools in their original Blow molded cases.
For the level holder I can't see myself loading and unloading with that level in the way. You guys should design one that can go inside the crate with some PVC pipe to hold it erect.
I'd love to see a pack out drawer system, as nice as packout looks the lids are unnecessary, a good strong drawer system gives you far quicker access with minimal lifting saving your back, it also allows better utilisation of the foam inserts saving wear and tear on tools when they get jostled during transport between jobs.
What do u guys think about making a door in the bottom box to be able to slide out contents of it sideways instead of removing two above boxes? Rigidity should not be heavily reduced
hi, i am a low voltage contractor and i am always taking my packout bins to job sites ,condos, homes etc. i would like to see some sort of way to attach a gorilla foldable ladder to the packout system for easy transportaion.
Need to make an SDS hammer drill pack out mount adapter so the ads drill stands vertical in the 37 gallon tote. So the 5/8 shank on drill side then a 1/4 impact then 1/2" quick release hole hawg all mount side by side by the chuck and staylocked on and standing. Basically the opposite of the tool mount from the battery slots if made it's allow other brand tools besides Milwaukee to be organized inside of packout. Cause obviously DeWalt Makita etc can't compete with Milwaukee packout.
I would love to see packout square buckets. But having the cleats on the bottom AND the back would be freakin awesome. While on that subject, why the heck didn't Milwaukee put cleats on the back of their drawers sets? It would be nice to use them on their wall mount.
@jakeofall I think it's really cool what you're doing, we need more tool storage solutions. Here is what has stopped me from buying packout: if I put my 18v circ saw, sawzall, and impact combo inside they will all be rattling around and banging into each other inside the box. This basically makes the boxes no better than a duffel bag if they're doing that and the tools aren't safe. So, I'd like to see you offer methods of safe storage for the interior of the packout system. For example, a layered system for the rolling box where the circ saw sits flat on the shoe in the bottom and there is a layered system built around and on top it for a sawzall and impact combo kit. I am going to make one out of plywood for myself in the meantime if I find some time to start a project
JakeOfALL yeah, it’s okay but doesn’t seem suited to separate a bunch of big tools inside one packout box especially when you need layers to separate them. I also feel like it’s expensive and kind of sloppy for what you pay. Keep up the good work though Jake, thanks!
I just bought the same shop vac, can you please tell me which parts to buy and that latch that locks it in place? Also what screws did you use? Thank you
Great job sir, and you seem to be like me, if your organized, you can work faster, smarter and saver. Not spending an hour to find a screwdriver for a 2 minute project.
Thanks for subscribing! The guys name is rainbow lane speed on Instagram. But we have a few . Email us at orders@jakeofall.com and let us know what you’re looking for
Any chance you would make vacuum kits for other brands of vacuums and tool boxes? I have the Ryobi project vac and the Tstak system. I would love to have a way to lock my vac into my tool boxes.
On the thinner box that comes with the 3 stack kit (48-22-8424)it would be nice on the inner side organizers to have some of the shockwave tabs for bit organization in those. I use it for my m18 drill and impact set with bits in those side organizers but they are just thrown in there as of now. Just an idea I had seeing this.
I want something about the size of the cooler that will quick charge 6 M18 batteries. Or a pancake compressor that fits in a space the size of the 3 drawer tool box. Or a coffee maker.
Labelling system on the front of the pack out? Currently with my roller cases I have traffolyte labels on the front. When there's multiple boxes it's a must to have decent size clear labelling on the front. What do you use? Great presentation by the way.
Would love to install something into the bed of my truck so it doesn’t roll around. And would love to lay it down so my tonneau cover can close..”Catch” no drilling into bed of truck.
Hi can you answer me a additional question because you have been so helpful ;) I ordered packout size 2, and I want to buy also lower organiser case, I would like to know if it is possible to lift the bigger handle of the packout size 2 when slim organizer is mounted on the top of it.
Could you please tell me how I get the "3d printed feet"? I didn't see them available in the Stack Smarter store. Gracias. Muy interesantes y útiles todos los artículos que presentas en este video.
