Seriously, this guy has no clue what he's talking about. He obviously knows nothing about US hockey history. Not even going to sit here and act like I care if Portland is ever part of the circus league that the NHL is. Much more exciting and traditional when winning a championship, means you go and play for the ultimate prize. That's what the Stanley Cup USED to be. I'm perfectly happy with the Hawks, who compete with real hockey towns with real history. Very few of those in the NHL.
No one does research anymore.lol. Quebec could use the tourist dollars but I can't imagine so many Canadians now all of a sudden becoming Nordiques fans
Milwaukee will never get one. The Wirtz family would never allow it. They're the reason there is only an AHL team there. Certain owners still have lopsided influences in the league.
There are tons of hockey fans in Atlanta. Atlanta will surprise everyone when we get a new team. It will be amazing what a great location and good ownership can do.
Anson Carter, former NHL player, is leading a sports investment firm looking to bring another team to Atlanta. It’s a huge market. Could work with the right ownership group and front office of course
@@jdsmith1740 Atlanta's ECHL team, the Gladiators, has... cheerleaders (without the chants, thankfully). that tradition should still be kept in football. there was 10 inches of snow one night in Atlanta, and i went to one of their games. as it goes in the southeast, it had all melted well before puck drop, but i can assume all of the schools still shut down for the day. imagine a hockey arena being more quiet than your local library. i could have counted about 20 in attendance, if that much. people just don't have the same passion for it as in other areas of the country.
Fun fact, Houston was actually not part of the NHL. They were part of the WHA which stood for the world hockey association. Houston actually almost made it into the NHL when the league folded, but ultimately didn’t make the cut. However, they did have some notable players play video organization mainly highlighted by, Gordie Howe
Bettman did promise that if meruelo can build a new stadium and all the other facilities by 2029, he will open the expansion draft and pretty much give him the airzona coyotes back as a expansion team,
I think Houston would lose money just like Tampa, Miami, Anaheim, Atlanta, Phoenix, Columbus, Carolina all lose money for the NHL. It would be just another NHL team in the South losing money.
Anchorage population 398,807 Current smallest NHL city....Winnipeg (834,678) DOUBLE POPULATION OF ANCHORAGE..... By comparison let's pick ANY SMALL CITY IN CANADA....Oshawa 410,000 people... Oshawa Ontario is LARGER than Anchorage, and has more hockey fans... Oshawa should never, ever, ever EVER have an NHL team... Therefore, Anchorage is childish. Just say anything....Rome! Mexico! The Moon!
@@JoshuaKimbrough Say that to the League’s face then. Because the league doesn’t care that Atlanta lost 2 teams. It’s still has a fan base that would love for Hockey to return again with at least Stable ownership
I say bring back the nordiques and whalers. I see some rivalrys happening with the whalers abd bruins as they where rivals before hartford moved to carolina and i could possibly see the quebec fans having some beef with the Avs since quebec moved to colorado which might spark Avs, nordiques rivarly
@@CaydenDecker-jx8zhThe ATL Flames didn’t really have as shitty of owners as the Thrashers. ATL Sprit was the worst thing for the Thrashers since poop.
@@mike9767 There is no metro area left in the USA or Canada without a team that has a white total population as high as does metro Atlanta. It is the 6th most populated metro area, and the Thrashers and Flames left because of ownership, not fan support.
Why is it ridiculous? Atlanta is the 6th most populated metro area in the USA. Also neither of the previous teams had anything to do with fan support, rather ownership issues.

Hockey would do great in Oklahoma City. We have so many people from Canada, Michigan, Minnesota etc. A lot of people get stationed here at Tinker Air Force Base and than decide to live here when they get out. We even have a bunch RCAF guys stationed here. Rant on about Georgia if you want because I agree. But you're out your mind if you think an NHL team wouldn't thrive in OKC. Instant rivalry with Dallas and if you know anything about OKC vs Dallas or Texas vs Oklahoma when it comes to sports you would know how crazy those rivalries are
We used to have Edmonton's AHL team here and they did great and the city loved it. Not to mention we're building a brand new arena for the OKC Thunder so there's another reason.

3 things wrong with this video 1. Salt Lake is considered an expansion team 2. The team was called the Quebec Nordiques 3. The Houston Aeros were not an NHL team
The first thing is half true. Yes the Utah team is an expansion team but it’s also technically a relocation of the Coyotes. The Yotes have technically shut down for now but would be put back online with the league’s return to the area. The other 2 are fully correct.
The NHL will name the salt lake team, they're going to be named either the Salt Lake City Mormons, Salt Lake City LDS, or Salt Lake City Joseph Smith's Wives. Unfortunately, non Mormon fans will not be allowed inside the arena unless you're full Mormon.
Every major population center in Canada (except one) ALREADY HAS AN NHL TEAM. It's literally just a matter of time. 1 Toronto Maple Leafs (5,647,656) 2 Montreal Canadiens (3,675,219) 3 Vancouver Canucks (2,426,160) 4 Calgary Flames (1,305,550) 5 Edmonton Oilers (1,151,635) 6 Ottawa Senators (1,068,821) 7 QUEBEC (839,311) 8 Winnipeg Jets (834,678) EVERY NHL TEAM IN CANADA GENERATES REVENUE FOR THE LEAGUE
It would be hard to maintain a stable fan base being near Texas and mostly likely fans wouldn’t make it. The only way that this would happen is if Louisiana had a massive boom in population and no storms or disasters hit Louisiana.
I feel like if the NHL expanded by 10 more teams...New Orleans WOULD STILL BE A BAD OPTION. Louisiana is up there with Hawaii for worst hockey markets in North America
It won’t happen in Wisconsin ever, I forget the story. But essentially some high ranking government officials in Wisconsin insulted/slighted the commissioner of the NHL of the time, and the NHL commissioner said that he would use all of his money, power, and influence to ensure that Wisconsin never got a NHL team. That’s why the Milwaukee admirals have such a nice stadium and more things then other AHL teams because they where supposed to be a NHL team

three of those cities will NEVER generate money for the NHL Houston, Atlanta, and Phoenix CANNOT support hockey. They never have in the past 100 years.
Quebec should be over Atlanta. Quebec has city support, and they lost their team in the 90s because the owner anticipated loosing money (he never actually did) and sold the team when he was told he wasn’t getting government bailouts. Atlanta was mismanaged (not blaming the fans there) but got sold not even 15 years ago. Quebec wants the team bad. Not arguing them over Houston because Houston has like 7 or 8 times the population, an arena and a willing ownership group already (rockets owner showed interest, saying he’d love to have something going on at the Toyota center every day of the year). And the nhl prefers new cities over cities that used to have a team because everyone in Quebec is already a fan of hockey, whereas they hope to get more fans from the 6 million people living in greater Houston. It’s a natural rivalry with Dallas, and Dallas has learnt to embrace their team, showing that you could easily achieve success in Houston.
1. The Aeros almost made it but didn’t 2. True and that might be the name if they return 3. Atlanta just needs no shitty ownership to be good enough to stay.
@@JMAN97712 why don't you do a little research before you speak? The Atlanta Flames and Thrashers outsold the Chicago Blackhawks 11 out of 19 seasons. The Atlanta Flames outsold the Detroit Red Wings half of the time, as well as the Los Angeles Kings. They outsold the Pittsburgh Penguins 6 out of 8 seasons. The Thrashers, in addition to outselling the Blackhawks many seasons, outsold the following teams a majority of the time, or around half of the time. New York Islanders, New Jersey, Washington, Anaheim, Nashville, Phoenix. The Thrashers even outsold the Bruins like around three seasons.
They won't go back to Quebec because they want to grow the game while most fans there are habs fans and they tried twice with Atlanta and failed both times so I doubt they would try again
The Flames weren’t bad in Atlanta at all. The Thrashers only left because of shitty ownership. Atlanta probably still has at least a small but passionate fan base for Hockey. Quebec City is still a possibility but would take a bit to happen.

This is such click bait and I'll say why, they won't do Atlanta again because it already failed twice, Oklahoma was never in rumours, and they already have Nordiques fans but turned to Montreal and if another team from Canada joins it has to be something new.

Impossible, not to kick you while you are down - just some obstacles and realities that need to be addressed in order to actually get a future NHL team back in Phoenix. Winnipeg waited 15 years for a new team (1996-2011) I get that Phoenix is one of the top ten largest cities in America (10th - 4,845,832 population). I also realize that Houston (5th - 7,149,642 population), and Atlanta (6th - 6,104,803 population) are larger than Phoenix and also don't have NHL teams - those are the cities in the South Phoenix is competing with to get an expansion team. I personally feel a 2027 or 2028 date is impossible as of today. Phoenix has no arena. - The starting bid for land starts at $68.5 million (therefore, the closing bid will be MUCH higher) The renderings proposed were for an area, practice facility, hotels, restaurants, a casino etc. - the price tag for the arena is approximately $500 million - the price tag for the entire district was approximately $3 billion The parcel of land for auction - North of Loop 101 on border of Scottsdale Road has: - no existing infrastructure - no water rights - no sewage system built - no road access Therefore the total cost to build will ACTUALLY be higher than $3 billion - you still need to build sewage systems, roads, and acquire water rights...those were not included in the $3 billion proposal. Between 2013 and 2022 the Arizona Coyotes have lost more money than any other team in the NHL - $115.2 million in losses. The Arizona Coyotes are a net loss team since 1997 - meaning the team overall LOST money over the past 28 years - they didn't generate money. As of April 2024 Alex Muerelo's net worth was estimated at $2 billion. - land $68.5 million - arena $500 million - district $3 billion - PLUS YOU NEED ROADS, SEWAGE, WATER RIGHTS....so not $3 billion - actually quite more than $3 billion..... - plus you need to BUY a expansion team (probably $1 billion minimum) The last NHL team to sell was the Ottawa Senators for $950 million - the Arizona Coyotes are allegedly being sold for $1.2 billion. So....$4,068,500,000 Four Billion, Sixty Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand - would realistically not be enough money to build this district. How is a team that lost $115.2 million dollars ever going to recoup those losses??? The team was overall at a net loss for 28 years - so realistically how many years would it take to recoup $3 billion? One of the lower valued teams - Columbus generates about $30 million a year in profit. $30 million x 100 years = $3 Billion $30 million x 135 = $4,050,000,000 Still not enough to pay for the district and expansion team.... So Muerelo is NOT the answer. It would be impossible for him to build an arena AND buy an NHL team....
@sampicano the Coyotes are doing the Cleveland Browns tactics, operational suspension till the new stadium is passed and we get the NEW Arizona Coyotes
