I’m so firsty mom If my “7 Reasons the AK-47 is Terrible for SHTF Survival” video taught me anything, it’s that AK enjoyers have a hard time picking up subtle humor, probably due to FAS. (Link below. Seriously, check the comments to that video, they are incredible, especially the people who think that I really believe Jesus Christ was born in the United States [and he was btw].) So, a couple of points of clarification for your oldest child to read out loud to you before this video begins: 1) I like AKs, and I think I have 12-13 at this point. I did a video on them when I had about 10 last year. 2) I consider Brandon Herrera a close, personal, friend (not in a straight way). 3) I love all of you deeply, even you brainlet AK owners. So now, enjoy the list. I think you may be pleasantly surprised by #3. - James Why the AK Sucks video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wC_p9LAS6DU.html
I would have replaced the AUG with the Tavor X95 or TAR21. Both have much better handling, are over the beach rated, have more space for accessories, and are extremely reliable. The AUG is nice and all, but it lacks a lot of stuff we expect from more modern rifles, like rails... which may seem like a small thing, but when you're operational, having space to put things is paramount over nostalgia.
Arguably, #3 is 2 AKs and #5 is an AK-type. If I did a "non-AK" video, it would be 7.62x39 rifles that are not AKs - make it caliber limited, like this vid.
@@tfbtv at this point I really feel like the Galil has surpassed AKs and it's become something different. That isn't a bad thing at all, but really it's way too different imo
First time I seen the movie Heat when I was 15 I loved every minute of the it. But I really wanted to see the 556 Galil Used by Michael have more screen time being used like Chris and Neil's Ar-15 during the bank shootout. My dad still has his 308 Galil today and it never gets shot unless we go to the range together. Our tradition.
tbh after AUG at no2 I thought the Tavor was going to take no1 spot, with fingers crossed for the XCR but got MCX instead. Which I'm sure is great but still feels like an AR derivative
Im surprised the IWI Tavor didnt make the list. Ive shot a mil. verision, and totally amazed. Except maybe a trigger, but im fussy about them anyways. I was at Battlefield Vegas and they had fine selection of goodies, to test run.
I too am an Australian drinking my fourth beer while watching this. On my part, I couldn't shoot for shit when pissed. Not that I'm pissed yet. I'm Australian after all.
To carry the analogy to reality, WIVES kill "people" (husbands and mistreses). But James never cracked a smile when he spoke of that analogy. THAT takes guts!
It will permanently demand a strong full fisted forward assist to prove you love it from then on... Which is far more exhausting than the AUG just demanding some skilled strong fingering. Never forget that
Unrelated but I stumbled my way into the TFBTV discord and I will never be able to emotionally recover from the cesspool of degeneracy. I’m gonna hide in the comparatively pure RU-vid comment section to protect my innocence.
Meh. The pre-580 guns were intended as plinker guns, truck guns and ranch guns in general. They are just fine for shooting a can, bottle or that damn Coyote on your lawn from 50-100 yards away. Optics were expensive as shit Back then and Iron sights got the job done in 99.9% of it's use. The Iron sights on the Ranch version fully embraced this philosophy before everyone in the gun community became accuracy whores XD
I love videos like this. The AR is Schrödinger's rifle: Possessed with a near infinite degree of variance while simultaneously being the most boring fucking thing on the market due to everyone and their dog owning a half dozen of them.
@@davidgoodnow269 oh for sure Ruger is always on their game making quality stuff but my STANAG mags are perfect for me aslong as the spring is fine it's GTG
Now that this comment has been seen and approved, I want James to embrace the idea and do a full blown Lars Croft getup in a future video, complete with twin drop-leg pistols and his signature fanny pack in place of the uselessly tiny backpack Lara frequently wears.
I own 2 mini-14's, taught 3 generations to shoot with them, iron sights only. I may not win a sniper competition but it will throw brass at your neighbor's wife and run anything. Awesome weapon platform. Practice is all you need to do
All these years later and the Mini-14 is still my favorite semi-auto raffle to swing around and point and shoot...I just can't hit what I'm shooting at with peep sights. No issues with a v-notch though. It's the first "real caliber" semi-auto my grandpa used to teach me when stepping up from a bolt-action.
Iv put so many rounds thought minis and have one that is a go to for me. I think growing up with a 10/22 then going to a mini just made it right for me. Thankfully i bought a bunch of tapco mags for mine when they were still available because they def work well! My local shop has minis at 1100 or something crazy right now. Great rifle either way
Yo AUG trigger protip: Instead of buying the metal sear for "less than a hundred bucks" you can cut a strip off a beer can and wrap it around the existing sear, accomplishes the same thing and you can get drunk in the process
Daewoo K2 crying in corner: "Why wasn't I good enough?" I'm just a fan of the K2 aesthetics and hear they are solid guns, but no personal experience yet
I've owned 2-3 of them. Fantastic guns, honestly, but the twist rates are wonky. The DR200 is something like Nam-era 1:11 twist and every version seems to have a different twist rate.
I must say, James, I was sipping an expensive glass of champagne and I was disgruntled to find out that the wonderfully made, Tommy Built Tactical T36 rifle was not on this list. I find this list to be "shallow and pedantic." On a serious note. You should do a video on the TBT T36 rifle. They're expensive, but they're badass. They are supposedly every G36 fan's wet dream.
As someone living in a ban state and a mini 14 (584 series) owner, thank you for putting the mini on the list, I would probably own one even if I didn't live in a ban state I love it so much along with an AR.
Your the best TFB TV host there ever was. You are one of the non Judas disciples of " Gun Jesus " Forgotten Weapons. Your the type of dude I like talking guns with. You let it be known its OK to be a " Gun Nut ". Loved your Die Hard Christmas episode a couple of years ago. It was the best. NEVER stop what you are doing and putting out. God bless the Second Amendment.
It's a shame that Western bloggers do not have access to Russian weapons with balanced automation. AK-107, 6P67 and 6P68 will give a head start to many rifles of the west
@@maledetto1221 I agree, but this is not an automatic weapon, balanced automation is designed primarily for automatic shooting, there are not those feelings from shooting
Ian somehow got hands on An-94. The autopsy revealed that those Russian “wonder waffles” are mere propaganda. Upon further review it became quite obvious why Red Army never adopted any of those designs. By the way, Russians went with updated 47/74 variants instead of any other option. I guess they themselves do not believe in their own “wonder waffles”.
Biggest problem with the Mini 14 is the proprietary magazines. Ruger needs to offer an upgrade which will take the NATO STANAG (AR-15/M-4 pattern) magazines.
@@servicerifle16 I've seen those but i thought they were from American volunteers.....which in hindsight i guess would have been a source for the Mini 14 too.....
Another great video! I was very happy when you said the scar didn't make the cut. Honorable mentions for me would be CZ Bren 2, B&T APC223 and a rifle that never garners as much attention as I think it deserves, the Robinson arms XCR-L.
MCX Lubricant Advice: Use almost none. The rifle hates it. And definitely not any grease. Especially in moon dust. The slightest layer of Mil-Comm or Lucas or whatever, in the BCG and track is more than enough to keep it running well on the low setting.
Back in 1989 I fired a Sturm, Ruger Mini-14 in .223 and I must admit that I really liked the feel of the rifle, later that Christmas I received the 10/22 Deluxe Sporter Model with a rubber butt pad which also helped in midigating felt recoil.
There is not a single throwaway on the list. I have to admit that I would have never given the Ruger Mini-14 a second glance if it wasn’t for the mods that James added to the rifle. The stainless steel with wood stock and that multi folding minimalist metal brace is sick. It looks like a steam punk weapon. Without a doubt that is coolest looking rifle that you showed us. James hit this list out of the ball park and they are still looking for the ball. Can’t wait for part 2.
“MCX will replace the M-16” Me: I heard this before… Early 2000’s: “The XM8/SCAR/ACR will replace the M-16” Late 1980’s: “The G11/Steyr ACR/ Colt ACR/ AAC will replace the M16”
yeah MCX is not going to win NGSW beating Textron who the competition was made for or Lonestar/GD/Beretta/TV who made ammo that is actually lighter than what we currently use. Sig's ammo is basically as heavy as 7.62 NATO. Textron and TV's ammo are both around 7.62x39 weight per round. warmed up ar10 with too many charging handles and short stroke firing 7.62 nato weight 6.8 ammo but higher pressure and still performing worse than the other two entries is not going to win.
Please don't grow facial hair JAMES, 1) Your wife may not like it.... 2) You're good looking so no ugly to hide, and 3) if you grow facial hair you're one step away from bending your bill cap to the point of touching each other, 4) You'll end up tattooing both arm sleeves ,Then it's tacti-tard time !!! The reason why NZ and Aussie dropped the Aug was because of maintenance to expensive but I still have 8 Aug tortoise mags that I'm not allowed to bring into the states.
Australian Steyr contracts were no dodgier than any other military contract, performance of a weapon isn't the only thing to take into consideration. Australia is fairly isolated from good allies in the region and likes to have locally produced items for good reasons, (local economy, jobs, supply lines, spares etc). America doesn't like foreign made or even designed equipment so don't be surprised that other countries don't either.
@@kokonanana1 I didn't say they hadn't adopted stuff but they required Beretta open a factory and a US subsidiary and at the time there was much complaining that a foreign weapon was selected and how was it possible something was better than Colt, S&W, Ruger etc submissions. The recent selection of the FREMM frigates is a modern equivalent. Many people and their politicians are annoyed that American innovation or production quality couldn't be up to the standards of other nations
Definitely agree with the mini-14 being in the list. Once upon a time it was actually an affordable option to the ar. Unfortunately, the cost of making it more accurate also ran the price tag up.
In the RU-vid meltdown videos from Iraqveteran8888, the most Reliable rifle was a POF 416 piston driven AR. Every other AR and AK failed after about 850 rounds. The POF 416 never failed after 2500 rounds. They ran out of ammo before the weapon could fail to fire.
The problems with the Sig MCX Virtus are higher recoil than the AR15 (noticeably more not marginally more), the extra 1.5 pounds, the weight is out front due to the piston which is the worst place for weight, the charging handle and safety selector are rough to use (for the $2k they should at least be smooth). There are positives to the platform but it seems no one ever discusses the negatives.
No love for the Tavor? I actually prefer it to most of these options. The weight is closer to you so less noticeable than things like the galil or galil ace where it’s out front
Holy balls James, you have become a fantastic instructor. This video is amazing. I have opinions like all the other people online but your production quality and information presentation have come a very long way from your start videos. I have to admit that even though I think I know everything, I can still learn from you. Very painless to watch, thank you for your dedication to this thing we all love so much. You make RU-vid better and they should be paying you.
The funny thing is its against the rules for content creators. Its ok for the platform to make money from gun sellers but highly restricted for creators. They are obviously very ethically based rules
Especially since they even make Ruger American's that take stanag. Do AR mags, a stiffer barrel that can hold SPR level groups with a 1:7 or 1:8 and i'm in there. I love my AR's but for a general purpose rifle I really enjoy a "rifle" stock.
@@mattfleming86 My thoughts exactly. I was looking at one of those Ruger Americans a couple weeks ago and I was just like ok so they're making this now but I can't get a mini 14 like this SMH.
