I never would have thought tail chasing would be such a serious issue, but poor Ronnie, I'm just amazed that it was almost like doggy OCD and that is was distressing him. Fantastic to see that he's hopefully sorted out with this new but simple trick. I really hope the little guy gets on with his forever home!
I've heard of cases where the chasing and biting was so bad that eventually the vets had to amputate the tail. This is after mild sedatives and wrapping the tail, therapy didn't help either. After he lost the tail he was fine.
Had a longhair dachshund that that thought he was a heeler to my mules. Got kicked in the head hard enough to cause concussion with vision and balance difficulty. First vet thought he had antifreeze poisoning, and sent us to emergency clinic for antidote. Vet bill was $400. Had to rehome him to keep him from being killed.
cases like cheeky can also be caused by petting a bird on the back, under the wings, or on their tail! it can cause a hormonal response in the bird leading to destructive behavior towards both itself and you. always pet a bird on the head or feet!!
Everyone has such creative names for their beloved extended families. I ❤ it. And these vets are very good with their diagnosis. They sound so wild and far fetched, but when they are explained... they make perfect sense. Great vets. ❤🌸👍.
Little Schnitzel needs a pet! Pretty bad when you have to get a pet for your pet! Maybe get a kitten. It can bond with the pup and be a working barn cat too!
the Tail chaser I had friend who had dog that had same problem for years they tried to solve problem by training , distractions even medications but he never took to the help in fact it got worse and blood was shed (from his tail) they ended up docking his tail more for health reasons then to stop the tail aggression
It’s a poddy calf, mums either passed or has twins or otherwise can’t care for it. It’s being bottle fed until it’s weaned and able to be independent. It’s tied up because at that age they can wander off and get lost without mum.
Put Ronny in the cone of shame until the tail healed. Or if all else fails, lose the tail. And if he still has obsessive compulsive disorder. Doggy Training, exhaust him during the day, stuffed animals. Doggy drugs is not always the answer.
No Jack Russell is a normal pet dog. They are the highest energy dogs on the planet, and the breed choice must match the family as particulary active and athletic each and every day. Walkies an hour a day, PLUS play time.
We had a Cairn Terrier that chased her tail like that. She was still a puppy as this developed. One morning she caught her tail and bit the end so bad she was bleeding terribly. With the vet we tried distraction and an anti-anxiety drug to stop this OCD. Then we had tranquilizers if we had to work with her like grooming. But we ended up docking her tail half way. The vet's concern was having her switch to her leg if there was no tail. That didn't work so we docked the tail completely. With the meds and us watching when she needed distraction, worked for us. She had to have knee surgery and needed to be kept still. She started going after the bandaged leg. We ended up adding the tranquilizer to her pain meds so she could stay calm and rest. And we could rest because it ended being constant chasing. We saw the vet behaviourist and got her on a new medication for anti-anxiety because the other she'd been on for 10 years and this new one was for dogs. This worked better and this was how we managed her OCD. We still had to watch if she got stressed and made sure to distract and then with the tranquilizers as back up. I know most people would probably not have bothered with her, but we made the decision to take care of her. She was the happiest little pup and loved her Mom.💖💖💖
My son's dog hasn't been diagnosed but she never needs her nails clipped because she bites them down herself. It's so bad that she sets every place she plays on by the constant licking and biting. They I'm ns.
The Jack needs a job. He really needs to be taught fetch. This will help him to feel he has purpose and stop the self-destructive behavior. This obsession is normal for this breed. He just has to be given health exercise tasks and games.
cheecky is so cool. and cool name and owner as these women are so strong. and taking these calfs. disgusting. away from their mothers. and tying them on a short rope.
It's fairly normal with shitzu. Dogs actually do this to clean after themselves. (so for example mother dogs eat their pup's poop so bacteria can't spread.) Try teaching your dogs 'leave it'
no idea why, i love animals but that little dog just got me so mad. the incessant licking, the compulsion. i could hear it through the screen lol, especially growling at the child the most are you fkm momemt.
