Glad you highlighted/mentioned the Orca's versatility. It is literally the best non-park (but fuck it, take it through the park, no reason you cant if you're going straight, hell ride it switch) I've ever been on. It lives up to the hype 100%.
Took the Bataleon Surfer LTD to Vail a day after a huge pow drop. This board floated like I was riding on a cloud and the nose stayed up even in 8 to 10 inches. Love to try the Orca to compare.
I bought a Yes Powderhull 420, it has an interesting design. I took my 154” out on the weekend after a powder dump. The board performed very well, floaty and reactive in 8” of snow plus also good on piste in the groomed and bumps. I highly recommend it too. I paired it with some Now Drive Bindings.
We're pretty much the same build TG. I ride a 154 Custom for whatever and aI have a 151 Betaleon aerobic for park board, and I just bought a 156 Ride Berzerker For A Utah trip I have planed
Board Archive interesting that you went for the storm chaser of the (ultra) mind expander though tj. I would have thought that rated higher on the pow after your tribulations on the storm chaser
Nice clip TJ man, I'm liking this format so far. And the music sample is legit too, eagerly awaiting the other top 5 lists i.e. all mountain, free ride, etc. Praying Mt. Hood opens in a week, yew!
Another great video TJ. The Surfer is a board that would really turn some heads. Be great to see you on a few more Yes boards in whistler this year. I feel like the 2020 or the Optimistic could be a solid chance to make this list next year...
Man that footage is dope. Its got me frothing at the mouth for some sweet, sweet pow pow! I've never ridden a Gentemstick- but I really want to try one out.
@@jaybartlett2561 Yeah man, I've only gotten the chance to ride it one day. I actually made a video about it and posted it on my channel. The only thing was, that it wasn't a powder day, and so I wasn't able to test it out in the conditions it was made for. So ultimately I can't yet give it a fair review, because I haven't taken it into any substantial pow.
Andreas Schubert yeah you gotta take that gentem out in its natural habitat! I just picked up a Jones Storm Chaser but my head is telling me to return it for a Korua Dart. Which would you pick for a dedicated pow deck?
This is great, man. Would love to see your Top 5 freeride boards. Also, specifically, I'd love to see your review of the Jones Flagship 2020 (supposedly pretty different from previous models). Cheers!
Random comparison what how do you feel the never summer insta gator rides compared to the Orca? I think they've got similar shapes and similar camber profiles, just curious
Gentemstick 🔥🔥🔥 hey TJ I’ve always wanted to ride a Moss Snowstick it’d be awesome if you could get on one of those - have my eye on the jellyfish, U5 or wingpin
@@dootdoot1867 nah keystones base depth has been at 18 in for a week or 2 now tho. Good news I'll be getting back to Colorado Saturday or Sunday and plan on making a trip up
Nice one. It would be perfect if you could test all boards of the market before making your vids. But I guess it'd be asking for "a bit too much". Keep up the good work, I feel your content just keeps getting better !
What do you think of the Rossignol Sushi? Saw you were rocking that in Japan and curious how you liked it compared to these other ones. I was thinking of picking up a nice powder board that could double and be fun to carve on groomers with.
@@BoardArchive Nice thanks for the response. Would you recommend the storm chaser or the sushi then for someone who is looking at a fun carving board on groomers when dumping in addition to tree riding?
Nice review TJ, as always!! I just got the new Bataleon Surfer LTD 159, for those epic POW days... I read on a review that it needs a couple of days, in order to get used to the 3BT, if you haven't ridden it, before. Especially for groomers and hard snow, they said, that it feels really loose and it does not turn with accuracy... Any advice on where to focus, in order to be able to "turn it"..? Cheers
I know right? Definitely wish this brand will get some more attention in the future, especially in North-America. Their boards do not only absolutely rock powder, but are carving beasts as well
@@cheikh2880 yeah i think i will, i ride a 154 jones mountain twin and a 153 mike rav horrorscope. Was leaning towards a 152 dart. Im about 85kg and size 9 boot. Hmm.
ht7 wizz i am 85kg as well and ride a dart60. Seeing how you like sizing down I would recommend a Dart56. You can send the Korua guys a message through Facebook they do answer pretty quickly.
TJ, have u tried out the 147 orca? i'm also 150lb, usually ride 154 board too, (orca 153 tempting) just wondering if you would suggest to downsize this board as you did for storm chaser!!! peace ^^
hey guys, good vide, I'm enjoying the volume shifted boards at the moment - I'm riding the Orca and Nitro treehugger. Question tho, what do you recommend for woman who want to ride this style of boards? thanks
TJ, what's your take on sizing for the Orca? You mentioned dropping down to a 147 on the Storm Chaser, but rode a 153 Orca. Would you get a 153 or drop down to a 150/147?
Travis rice uses longer orca for dropping big back country lines for extra stability... then sizes down for trees. It's like anything. Depends on what you like and want.
Hey TJ. I have a ride warping that is my daily driver now and I'm debating between getting the storm chaser and the orca. I do lots of riding in Japan so what would you recommend between those two? Thank you 🙏
What specifically did you want to know? I've had a swift for a season and bought the orca pre season but got to ride it 3 days this past thanksgiving weekend.
@@SidiNic Its amazing in pow, has great float for sure with that swallow tail, set back and taper. Honestly its amazing out of the pow too. You can definitely slash it. The swift is more surfy than the orca, the orca's edges are way more aggressive and aren't as forgiving. The swift also felt easier to maneuver edge to edge since it has such a huge rocker in the middle. It can feel loose if you mostly ride camber or aren't used to hybrid boards with rocker in the middle but once you're on edge it rails. Both amazing pow boards, you can't go wrong with either one. If you ride a lot of ice or harder packed snow the orca will be more useful with its profile and the magnetraction. If you want to know anything else let me know.
hello, im looking for a new deck. what would u reccomend me - 6.2 180lbs 12 boot i like pow and groomed runs a little trees as well, im thinking of orca vs the stump ape. what u think tj?
Orca is too expensive for my budget.😥 Im thinking of volume shift party/pow board like the Warpig and PartyPlatter. Considering Warpig have top sheet issue by some owners reports, im narrowing to K2 PP 2020. Please do a party style snowboard hot picks vid 🤞
Shaw T ok. I’ve tried on the vans hi standard the other day. Those were pretty comfortable too. I used to ride the burton step ins and those were soooo uncomfortable lmao
Surprised the mind expander didn’t make the list. Seems many feel it is a ridiculously awesome powder board. TJ has a video riding it, and in the video he personally thanks the dude who shaped the board; no love here though, a list of 5 can only fit 5 boards...
tatnai burnett im guessing TJ had to choose between the storm chaser and the ME..... the SC was totally designed for deep Japan pow ...... so even tho the ME is a beautiful surf inspired powder board the SC is an even more specialized powder board per say..... I would lean more towards the ME my self cause of my riding style ...... but I own a spring break powder drifter (154) so that is my main powder board , if I go back to Japan I would Get a Glider (158) just to have even more float ...... to be honest is all about preference, all these boards float so well
