A very insightful and honest video. It's so hard to find up-to-date videos on geology from a young female's perspective that is easy to understand, please keep uploading your geology content!!!
As an engineer working in the real world, I can assure you that you will ALWAYS be using computers to solve challenging problems, it's the age of computers! So don't be afraid of taking math courses in college, it's only to help you solve problems!
One of the biggest threats to our profession (Im a PGeo) is black box computing of resources - the last 20 years ive seen so many incorrect resources calculated because "thats what the software said". You absolutly need math - geology is a bloody science !
WOW you and I have a VERY VERY VERY Differnt defintion of what "Simple Math" means. Add, Subtract, Mutiply and Divide are Simple math, anything above that, Most Americans at least, would consider Complex math.
@@ardinharminarmin9229 for the most part, whether or not you learn something in high school is pointless. You will probably want some extra help with the physics classes when you get to them but you should be able to do a geology degree without significant prior knowledge assuming you pay attention.
Your video helps a lot for me it gives me ideas and its fun to watch your video until the end,can you please make videos that talks about interplanetary and petroleum geologist please thank you!! :)
thank you so much for making these videos. i am a geology major at UNC chapel hill and i think there’s so many misconceptions about this field of science.
I am 55 and thinking about going to a geo science school in another country because it’s more affordable. Is it difficult? I love earth sciences but have not been scholastically involved in decades, so I am a bit apprehensive.
Thanks for sharing some beautiful myths about geology. Though I'm a student of mechanical engineering but I always have interest in geology. Can you share some online study links about geology? RU-vid links also. Please.
Thank you so much! It makes me so happy to hear that my videos helped you. Geology is a wonderful field. Please keep me updated on your journey of becoming a geologist.
Congratulations for these excellent videos, could you do one from your university or if you are interested in a postgraduate degree and what are your options in Canada?
@@hughjackson218why not? She’s advocating openly for a specific career path. She doesn’t have to answer but to ask is not rude when you make yourself a public representative.
I’m so thankful for this channel to exist I just love all the content she explains everything in such details it amazes me , I’m a high school student and struggled a lot choosing what I want to become since my favorite subjects were history , geography and biology and I found out about my interest from her 💙 and if anyone is reading this and has some info about geology I have some questions to aske since I want to find out more about geology 1) what exam do I have to take before graduating for geology for e.g there are SATS ACTS and etc. 2) are there any tips on maybe doing some extra work In high school to get the university’s interest in me ? For example attending any classes or courses ? If yes can someone list any? 3) what books do you recommend for a high school student and what I should study before graduating ? If you see this comment can you please make a video about such content because I’ve done a lot of research online and couldn’t wrap my head around it 💙🌝
I am a Geology student in Canada so I may be able to answer some of your questions or recommend material to read to deepen your understanding and appreciation of Geology. 1) Do I need to write the SAT to get a degree? To my knowledge no, although it may be different for other institutions/programs. However if you plan to get your degree in Canada and then practice in America I imagine you may need to write an SAT to become certified. 2) The best advice I can give for attracting attention from a university regarding geology would be to perhaps attend some sort of Geology camp or something of that nature. It would be hard to find employment in the field of Geology without a degree because, much like engineering, there is an accountability requirement. No employer is going to hire someone without accountability because if a geologist provides inaccurate data to a geological engineer then dams are going to collapse and that is bad. Best advice I can give is to find a deep appreciation for Geology. 3) In my experience, high schools rarely offer courses teaching the basics of Geology so it is a good thing that you want to read to understand more. That being said, Geology isn't, in my experience, as mainstream as fields like Chemistry Physics or Biology so finding literature that caters to the layman is somewhat difficult. The best thing that I can recommend for beginner literature is "Environmental Geology (2nd Edition). This textbook approaches most aspects of Earths geology as a collection of interconnected systems. A very good read to put everything into perspective. You should be able to find pdfs of this textbook online. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Thank you for the helpful video. I was wondering what made you choose to work as a geologist? And based on what should students choose what they want to work on their future?
Hi Black TEA, thank you so much for your comment. I actually started University as a Biology Major and switched to Geology in my second year of school after I took a geology course and loved it. If you interested I have video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-enHh5Wqun7o.html) where I talk a bit more how I became a geologist. As far as work in the future that really depends what country you are from and whether you want to do research or work for a company. If you have any specific questions please DM me on my Instagram @shylamagirl and I will be happy to answer your questions.
U r from US ur r right to do job in u r country ur country is awesome ❤️ seriously there are lots of carrier oportunity if i born in u r country so my life is better than here 😢😂
where are you from? I’m not born in USA, but I’m also going to do Geology! If you’re country have a “good” economics with commodities/oil, bro so go!!!!
Mam i have completed my masters in geology.... Now i want to come and pursue my further career in canada.... So mam please suggest me what shoud i do.... Where to apply and in which subject i pursue my career
the field courses you mentioned to “continue your education”, how would one get involved in an opportunity like this? i am looking for opportunities to gain field geology experience
Very interesting content and Nice presentation...Are you available on facebook ? If yes please share link so that any needful can discuss whenever required...
I’m from the uk and you don’t need to have done A level physics (from my experience) to do geology. I’ve done Chemistry and biology and was still offered places. From what I’ve seen you just need to have done 2 sciences. But this is just what I’ve seen being in the UK.
@@zoe._.1850 This is correct! Maths tends to be the only thing required across the board for any geology course. Then just one of the other sciences (preferably chem or phys).
Having done my bachelor's degree in Geology and currently studying a master's in Exploration Geology, I wouldn't say that physics is required; usually, you would be taught the necessary physics fields to be able to apply that. That's not to say preliminary knowledge wouldn't help though. In my experience, Geology is more Chemistry focused, especially whilst studying my master's.
Groundwater geol is interesting . will employers accept you despite age? Like too old for the norm. Like 21 is usual age that get out but by the time id be done id be 26 or 25 :(
But umm NASA were telling that they really need GEOLOGIST to study and find more info on the soil and rock formation and if any fossils at Mars so they needed GEOLOGIST for that purpose
No, im a junior geology student in university. I had to take chemistry, calculus 1-3 and physics. Maybe consider environmental sciences (BA), I think you only require pre-calculus for that.
@@cutieboy930I am taking those classes rn but honestly I am just passing them. It feels like I cannot really apply the knowledge. Do you use it a lot in the field?
I'm a geologist, I'd like to start studyng database administrator, because I'd like to work in geological database... do you believe I'm right... my AEC in database administrator will help me to find a job as database geologist in Canada?
