I'm an 80's child. 1. Mclaren MP4/4 -THE archetypal appearance of F1 2. Audi S1 -Rally was forever changed 3. Porsche 917 Gulf livery -Before my time, but stands out in my mind as an icon. 4. Peugeot 405 T16 -The video "Climb Dance" changed my view of cars forever. 5. Porsche 959 -Rothams livery in the Paris-Dakar. You know the photo.

Leo hit it. Grand Prix changed everything. The slot cars followed. Chaparral clinched it all.

The high-winged McLaren was the 1969 Mark 8B. That was my favourite car of the era. The Chaparral 2J had an aluminium monocoque with legal "doors" in the sides, with aluminium boxes over the sides to increase the stiffness. This was necessary because the 2J used suspension-adjusted sliding skirts for constant ride height. It also had a Rotax two-cylinder engine that drove a pair of large ventilation fans to provide suction downforce.

I was born in 1963, so I can relate to you guys and the TV coverage that was available. The Indy 500 was about the only race to watch on TV in those days. The race car that grabbed me as a kid was the 2J "sucker car". I learned about it from a race car COMIC book series!

The 80's/early 90's was the golden era for me... 1. Audi quattro S1 ... breathtaking 5-cylinder + amazing bodykit 2. Mazda 787B ... the unmistakable banshee 3. Ferrari 412T (1995) ... the last F1 V12 - the most stunning 4. Lancia Delta S4 ... insane and at the top of its game 5. Ford Sierra RS500 (Group A) ... a beautiful car with awesome liveries to boot

- Audi Quattro - a revolutionary car, driven by legendary drivers like Michèle Mouton and Walter Röhrl. - Lancia Delta Group A - simply gorgeous, and an amazing car on its own. - Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/4. - Mika Häkkinen's McLaren Mercedes MP4-14. - Porsche 924 Carrera GTR - for many, a "black sheep" among Porsches, but i simply adore it. Especially in the white Eminence/ESSO livery, because i have a bburago miniature of it.

I wasn't into cars enough when I was a kid to remember any in particular, but the aero of the LMP cars of the 90's caught my eyes, and probably inspired my love of aerodynamics to this day

Porsche 917, Mclaren m8f, Ford GT40, Lola T70 Mk3b, Mazda 787B. I wanted to add more such as Matra's etc but those would be my top 5.

As an 18 year old I really loved the Risi Competizioni Ferrari 430GT, the Gulf and the BMW Motorsport McLaren F1 GTR, the Mercedes CLK-GTR, the Lowes Acura ARX-02b, the BMW M3 GT2, and finally the Williams Racing F1 cars with the white, blue and yellow livery.

I'm a little younger - but here are the cars that were all over my walls as a kid. They weren't all the best driving cars, but they got me going as a kid. 1) Lamborghini Countach 2) Ferrari 512TR 3) Lamborghini Miura 4) Porsche 3.2 Carrera's and 962 series 5) Mercedes 300SL Gull-wing

1. McLaren-Honda MP4/4 (1988) , most dominant F1 car ever driven by Senna and Prost. 2. Audi Quattro S1 Group B (1986), the most powerful rally car ever. 3. Sauber-Mercedes C9 (1989), 400km/h (250mph) on the Mulsanne straight in LeMans. 4. Benetton-BMW B186 (1986) , 1400+hp in unrestricted turbo boost qualifying. 5. Porsche 956/962 (1982-1989), arguably the best Group C racer ever made. Yes, I watched those cars race on tv when I was a kid. The 80's were crazy. Turbo-F1, Group B Rally & Group C

In no particular order, and for reference I was born in 1982: 1- Williams FW14B- Mansells title winning car. 2- Ferrari 312T- I saw the ex Villeneuve car at Goodwood in 1994 (before it crashed!) and was captivated. 3- Alfa Romeo 155 Super Touring. 4- The Le Mans winning Jaguar XJR-9 of 1988. 5- Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500- so widely used both in touring cars and rallying when I was a child.

As a kid, one of my favorite race cars was Darrell Waltrip's Mountain Dew car. My favorite color was green and that was the the car with the most green on it at the time. Most of my toy race cars were drag race funny cars. I had a large plastic one that was blue and had "Blue Max" on it. I also had the Hotwheels casting of the Firebird Funny Car that had flames and had "Fireball" on the sides.

1. Mk2 Jaguar - They were the badass saloon car racer in the early 60's 2. Lotus 25 - substitute any British Racing Green F1 car 1961-68 3. Porsche Carrera 6 - Corgi released a model of this 1967 - wanted it bad 4. Chaparral 2E - Just spectacular 5. Long Tail Porsche 917 - first lap of the movie Le Mans leaving everyone for dead Honorable mention: MkIV Ford GT - I can't say I was cognizant of the MKIV in the day but by far it's the Ford GT that makes me drool. Quite possibly the best looking car ever.

No particular order: - Subaru Impreza WRC 1999 - BMW Williams F1 with the "walrus fangs" supports for the front wing (I know everyone hates it, but to me it's really cool) - Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR - Ford GT40 1968 (the one with the Gulf livery) - Chip Ganassi Racing IndyCar with the Reynard chassis, they were so simple and so fast! it was a shock to me as a kid, the one with the "mustache" front wings, the oval pack Born in 1987

Audi Quattro. My first motorsport event was a rally, and Stig Blomqvist was driving a factory entry. That sound... Lotus Seven. First one i saw was modified with a BDG-engine and F2 Wheels. That was proper quick! Mercedes SSKL. Neubauers memoares went as a serial in my favorite magazine, and reading of Caracciolas adventures in the Mille Miglia was so exiting. Audi V8 DTM. Watching HJ Stuck chasing down puny M3 and 190:s was just magic. Alpine A110, my first and most abused 1:24 model...

Leo, you should seek out The Donington Grand Prix Collection here in the UK. Huge collection of racing cars from all eras, and the largest private collection of McLarens. Donington Park itself would be a facinating subject too as it was the only circuit in the UK to host the GP in the years of the Silver Arrow cars of the 1930s. The 1993 European GP saw Senna dominate in appalling conditions - everyone pitted for wets, but he somehow stayed out and found traction!

Ferrari 156 sharknose, Lotus 38 (that won Indy in 1965), the white red and gold Lotus 49 with the wing, McLaren 8B (won every race in the Can Am it's first year, that fabulous burnt orange color), and the Talledega Torino that Ford quickly built to challenge (sometimes successfully) the Superbirds/Daytona Chargers (it wasn't the aero so much as the new hemi head Ford Boss 429 engine that helped push those cars to victory). These were mostly second choices, as Leo & Mike chose many of my first choices (Ford GT, Porsche 917, Chapparel, Lotus Turbines). But the single standout? 1972 Jeep Wagoneer. While Lancia was winning all the rallies, two crazy drivers decided to field the then new full time 4wd transfer case in a ten year old light truck design Jeep Wagoneer in the Press On Regardless Rally, which wound up being held in terrible muddy conditions. The Quadra-trac transfer case did it's job, and the big SUV took first place. Another anomoly was the midget racer that took on the world class sports cars at Lime Rock in 1959 and won. Look 'em up, fascinating reading!

Top 5 Race cars I liked as a kid: McLaren F1 GTR (Thank you Need for Speed) Mercedes CLK GTR (Again, Need for Speed) Ferrari F1 car (Schumi!) CAT NASCAR car (Ward Burton?) Pikes Peak Toyota Tacoma (Rallysport Challange) So basically my favorite cars were based on video games, which is interesting.

1. Nissan GTP-ZX Turbo (Cox made a 1/12 R/C model of it and I liked the 'boxy' look of it) 2. AAR Toyota Celica Turbo (saw it and thought why can't stock Celica's look/be like that?) 3. Chaparral 2k indycar 'Yellow Submarine' (had a slot car and liked the rear wing) 4. Bob Glidden's Pro Stock 87 Thunderbird (don't know why I liked it but I did enough to recall) 5. The car from 'The Wraith' movie (not a race car but the look of it was as they say Winning!)

Porsche 935 K3 (After seeing my first race at Lime Rock on Memorial Day in the late '70's. Who could forget the fire-breathing monsters) McLaren M8 (My first lunchbox had Can Am race cars on it and I fell in love with the chiseled M8.) Porsche 917 (L, K, -10, -20, -30, does it really matter which one?) AJ Foyt's 1977 Gilmore Coyote (The last of the line) Lotus 49. (The way that an F1 car is supposed to look!)
