Correction at 3:07 - The eShop release of Axiom Verge was the first outside of PS/PC, NOT the Limited Run release. The physical release came a few years later. (Thanks @EPS5000 !)
I own The Book of Unwritten Takes 2 and I'm legit SHOCKED to find out the game is rare and going for crazy prices. I bought it at Gamestop years ago for a super cheap price brand new (I think it was something like $15). There was another copy of the game sitting there for a long time. If I had known, I would have bought both copies, but I'm happy with the one copy I do have. Also, Devil's Third is a game I enjoyed despite the pure HATRED the game got from 90% of everyone else. I remember pre-ordering it from Gamestop years ago and when it released I was shocked to find out that my local Gamestop only received ONE copy of the game... the copy that I had pre-ordered. That alone clued me in that the game was going to be ultra rare. Anyway, the game's solo player campaign was fun (again, I'm in the minority since 90% of everyone else hated it, I know. LOL. But I liked it. The story felt like a drugged up Metal Gear Solid on cocaine and the gameplay was a lot of fun), and the multiplayer was TONS of fun to the point where if Nintendo had properly marketed the game on just the multiplayer, the game would have done really well (the multiplayer was a billion times better than games like Fortnite). But alas, no one wanted to market the game and threw it out for release with most people not knowing it existed.
300 bucks as the most expensive is dirt cheap compared to basically every other console, collectors should get on this before they shoot up in price in 10 years
The cool thing is that some of these are a actually really good games to own and play. Often expensive games are just that: expensive and not really enjoyable. Unless you have a sweet spot for that specific genre. But TBOUT2 and Axiomverge and to a degree even Devils Third are also really good games on top of being collectibles! Also WiiU rocks, one hidden gem of a system!
What little I've played so far of Devil's Third has been fun. Dunno yet if I would consider it worth the resale price, especially since I only have a digital copy of it.
So I can actually add a little bit to the reason why double start is so expensive. I was working at GameStop at the time when that game was released. Not only did they, we only received copies to fulfill pre-orders and we barely carried any spare copies after that but on the initial release we actually had a shortage. And this happened to be to be true for every game of my area, which at the time there was five. Each location was actually shorted by a few copies. The best example I can give you is at my store only had five pre-orders but only three copies ever came in. The second nearest location only had four pre-orders and only two copies ever came in. And my whole time there which I only lasted another year and a half after this game came out we only saw one trade in of that game
I may be misremembering things but I could've sworn that you already had a rarest Wii U games video back in like 2020-2021. It's what convinced me to sell my copy of Game & Wario that I got for ~$25 at Hastings' "Going out of Business" sale!
I actually have Turbo and Devil's Third physical. But I'd say in Europe, they are not that expensive. Turbo is actually a pretty nice game, which I enjoyed for several hours. I also liked the movie a lot. The game is like a Tony Hawks game with a snail. But 6 levels are pretty huge and interesting to explore and the challenges get tougher. This is definitely a decent game and kinda worth owning.
Yep, it was quite a popular series of videos from Game Grumps, and the meme worthy cutscenes also help. I would've loved to play the multiplayer before it got shut down, as I heard it was actually a really fun experience, though I hope a fan server is on the way or a re-release, though the latter is probably unlikely.
Axiom Verge looked awesome, i'll have to get me a copy for the Switch as I just saw it at a local mom & pop store selling at $60 bucks this past weekend. Here's crossing my fingers it is still there! I always thought Marge from the Simpsons walking into the living room where Homer is counting & you pick up when he is at 9...Nine, Ten D'Oh! My little Nintendo Joke!
Nice video Drew. I have a complete Wii U collection I got Turbo and Wario at my local Goodwill for $4.99 each. Buying Deviles 3rd, axiom, verge, and the book of unwritten tails 2 hurt having to resort to eBay.
It’s really a double edged sword when a multi plat game gets stupid expensive for one console but not another. Like I could go out and find Tales and Turbo on like Xbox or PlayStation and spend just a few bucks. But say I’m collecting for Wii U then for games I could get for $20 for both on a different platform, I’d have to spend like $400 on Wii U! Like yeah, you have a rare game, but you also don’t since anyone can get it, just not on Wii U. The magic of collecting
Unrelated... But do you think the Japanese refer to you as "Nintendo Dragon", due to the way "Drew" is rendered as "Doryu"? To resume the topic, two things jump out at me. One is the song from Game and Wario, Adrift, to be specific its usage in the TF2 GMod video "Engineer's Interesting Day". Another is the Game Grumps and how all they did for Devil's Third (more like Devil's Turd haha) was do nonsequiturs in a hokey Russian accent, even though I'm sure Mr. Third isn't Russian.
Ugh.. I got Game & Wario digitally.. It's a blast to play.. I'm kinda sad that I didn't get the physical... Though it's still downloaded on my Wii U.. It's an EXCELLENT game.
I have devils third. But I bought it digital because of it being such a stealth drop very limited find, and wasn't going to pay an outrageous amount for it. Glad I did and it is a very fun game.
I can't believe that Turbo Super Stunt Squad on WiiU is somehow rare of all things, coming from someone who saw that movie in theaters in 3D, even in the DS version the i've played, it was pretty bad. I know this is US titles but, I think Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure the Japanese release on the WiiU is a rare game? Think about it, that port never came outside of Japan and has become something of a peculiar game in the overseas market. I think the full starter pack is pricy.
It blows my mind games 1 and 3 are not even good or connected to a famous IP yet people will pay so much money for them just because they're rare. I can never become a collector. 😄
A bit misleading to say these are the top 5 rarest games on the console. There is no way that Game & Wario is the fifth worst sold game on the console. Going from number five to four it went from 200k copies to just a few thousand. I think what you mean to use is "expensive" to describe the games. It is bad to use this synonymously with one another because it is misleading. Not all rare games are expensive and not all expensive games are rare.
Nah, I'd just keep them safe at home, maybe with some plastic protectors. 🙂 I think the grading bubble is about to burst haha. As long as it's not beaten up, sealed is sealed in my book!
I used to run a game store back in the Wii U era. We had copies of Wario, Unwritten Tales, and Turbo sitting on the shelf for years. At one point Turbo was marked down to $10.
Great video man honestly i was shocked to not see Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on this list seeing as how nowadays its going for $130 for a new copy i saw on amazon and i bought a very good used copy for $55
As a guy who do a PAL collection of Wii U games, it's funny to saw the first 2 games aren't expensive here in Europe. I buy Devil Third twice for 10/15 € and Unwritten Tales 2 for 5€ on a Micromania, the French Best Buy. But we've got our expensive gales, Project Zero is one of them 😅.
I'm so glad I collected for the Wii U mostly in 2016 for my full collection because there's no way I'd spend that much today. I also find it interesting I have 3 of the 5 still sealed because I was going for a full collection and not necessarily to play them. I mean, I'm really never going to play Turbo...
Fortunate enough to have the entire physical NA library. Best score was picking up a sealed Book of Unwritten Tales 2 sometime in 2016 in the discount rack of GameStop for $5.
Sure but that's not the point. It's about the collectible status for that version of these games. Devil's Third in EU is not even half of that price, everybody knows that...
I saved myself a lot of money by buying Devil's Third and Game and Wario before the eShop closed down. I'm kind of surprised they're not more since the eShop has been closed.
Unless I’m misinterpreting you, I think you made a mistake. At the 3:07 mark you said “at the time of its release, this was the first instance of Axiom Verge appearing outside of the the PC and PlayStation ecosystem” however I remember when Limited Run announced the Multiverse Edition and it was months (possibly a year) AFTER the Multiverse Edition was on Switch. Unless by that statement you meant the digital release, but in the video you’re specifically talking about the physical Multiverse Edition.
Good catch, not sure how I missed that! I must have misunderstood that bit myself when scripting. The digital launch was indeed the first appearance outside of PC/PS. Thanks for watching!!
I was surprised at number one. I remember when I saw this game advertised I was super exited, it is not as good at I thought, but because I like games from the ps3 era, this game reminds me a lot to uncharted, there are no items, the only things you can pick up are the weapons dropped by the enemy, and it is a linear adventure game, I really like this kind of games, not as good, but still I enjoyed a lot. I didn’t know this game was so rare. I sold most of my collection of Wii U, because I updated to the newer switch version, so I sold my bayonetta, Mario 3d world, Mario kart, Mario Wii U, but kept the games that are not on the switch yet, like the twilight princess, Xenoblades chronicle x, star fox zero, Zelda wind waker, game & wario, devils third. I only sell games when I can get a newer version. But even so, first a look at so many reviews, because the silent hill 2 and 3 collection were garbage, so I am so glad I didn’t sold my silent hill 2 and 3 at the moment of buying the ps3 collection.
