Ascent 18 is the best deal, the FMS FCX 10 is amazing and the Redcat Ascent Fusion will beat any RTR crawler out of the box. It's been an amazing few months for the hobby and my wife is wondering when it will stop. Thanks RC Review👍🏼
I agree the Stance is cool, but, where I go crawling, a guy had one last weekend and he was walking every obstacle. It’s super capable, but that kind of took the fun away from it for me. There was no real skill or challenge, at least where we were crawling. So yeah it’s super high performance but kind of boring in my opinion. My SCX10.2 could keep up with it, but I had to work to get through stuff he was just driving over. And I built my 10.2. It’s the old built vs bought thing I guess. The part I love about crawling is finding the line, working the course, not just running over everything.
I’d say you need to find some steeper & tougher terrain that’s where the VRD is supposed to be but I’d say your right I have crawlers that I just love to take out & watch they may not even be my most capable but like everyone we all have our favorites which may not be the actual best performer.
A requirement for any cop crawler really is the availability of steep and technical terrain to challenge the rigs. Without difficult terrain, or features, comp crawlers are pointless.
Where I run mine it was very frustrating to get stuck and flip over and bound up, after some mods I finally enjoy it. I'll spend 15mins in like a 3 square foot area of jagged rocks lol
I would give the slight edge to the Ascent Fusion, but strictly because of bang for your buck. You get brass upgrades, a carbon chassis, and a brushless system out of the box for $400, whereas the VRD is brushed without brass and has a steel chassis for more money.
I got the ascent 18 and the fusion, and honestly I always kinda disliked Redcat. I got to admit they are really fun and super capable machines. If they hold up as good as my vanquish and trx4’s I’ll be super impressed.
You should update us all as I'm curious how they hold up. I have a TRX4 Defender with many mods including Fusion 1800 electrics, plus Vanquish Phoenix RTR (Falken version) which I'm going to put a 2300 Fusion into. I'm interested if Redcat engender that sort of desire to push the limits of what they can do?
Redcat in 2024 is very different in design and quality compared to 2020 or even 2022. The great thing about this company is they're improving with every release.
Eh there’s only two crawlers on this list , fusion has geometry issues, VRD stance is the only one that you can comp with and stand up to the custom builds that everyone is running. The FCX is a great trail truck though
There's comp crawlers and there's trail crawlers. Both have their space and the vast majority enjoy trail crawlers. Comp crawlers are best for competition and for folks with available steep and technical terrain.
@@RCReviewChannel well we can agree to disagree, the title implies crawling on technical terrain which is what the VRD and Redcat do, the others are really trail trucks with 2 speed transmissions.
Redcat has unfixable geometry, if they employed an actual engineering they could compete with the big boys… need more kits and less rtr ( ready to replace ) ….. if your serious buy a VRD….
VRD is the better crawler IMHO. But it quickly ramps up to $700. Most folks will be extremely pleased with the Ascent Fusion for their skill level, terrain availability and planned use.
I have both the vrd carbon tricked out..... and the fusion...I did a ton of simple mods to my fusion ....but just changing to better wheels tires/ foams...and offset made it 10x better ! and it's an amazing rig ..I've built many custom comp trucks over the years.... and I hate to admit it but the fusion has been my favorite truck lately
The VRD was just outperformed by a Capra so it’s good but it’s not the best as even an older model Capra if build right can out perform it. So every RC including kits have there own flats & none are 100% perfect. And the price is something to consider for the $ I’d take the Redcat but for me I’d get both because both are very good.
@@jairoluna9822 I’m not 100. % sure what it is but there are a few channels that discuss it after testing some sounds like they just don’t like Redcat & even said so I go by the overall review if you have 100 reviews & a few say negative things about it & the other 99 % say it’s good I’m going with the 99%. I have the red Ascent & I’ll get the Fusion but I’d probably run a carbon frame not because it has terrible traits but being I already have a Ascent I’d go carbon frame & at that price why not. I haven’t looked up who is making carbon frame rails but I do know they have them.
I bought the redcat ascent and then a month later they dropped the upgraded Ascent fussion. Bummed me out. I would of gladly piad another $100 for the Ascent Fusion. Now i cant afford it cuase i bought the first version. :( I have Never had this happen to me in the RC world. Damn you Redcat you should offer a trade in.
dude i have this same problem it always seems just after i purchase something a week or so later out comes a leak and their it is. the upgraded version😂 🖕🏻 rc companies😂
I dunno. I like the cheaper rig, with money left for a fusion pro and then a dsm chassis kit. Now there just needs to be an official 4 link front end kit...
