Love it man, there certainly are some niggles. 1. It needs to be dry 2. Sweaty Pads 3. The constant need for lumps of wax 4. Skates are all too narrow!
Regarding 4.: Different manufactures vary wildly in width. Powerslide are notorious narrow, K2 & Rollerblade are in the middle and FR-Skates are perfect for wide feet. Those are the brands I could test myself, just keep on trying different skates and check their size sheets. A few manufactures include also the width (Powerslide i.e) so you can measure your foot and check beforehand.
1. Whenever I'm not on skates I am thinking about being on skates 2. Whenever I am on skates I am thinking about staying on them forever 3. When my legs are ready to give out my heart and soul just want to keep going 4. Sometimes people block the bike lanes and get mad at you, sometimes bikes block the bike lanes and get mad at you! 5. Can't skate if it rains
My top 5 personal complains (California): 1- Not smooth streets 2- Not skate parks nearby 3- Nice places banning skaters 4- Skating alone :( 5- Can be embarrassing tripping in crowded areas
I guess I need to start a "SIXTY&ROLLIN" channel ! Imagine being OLD and being the only skater for miles... :-( Also, there are very FEW places around where I live to safely skate (and survive) as there are big hills everywhere and mostly badly-paved roads + NO paved trails. I skate in a local school parking lot and it's good but limited... but I'll keep skating! :-)
I live in a desert that barely has sidewalks and have to drive to any place worthy of skating. So I get your frustration. However I'm 36 and barely started skating again just a few months ago. Knowing that you are 60 and skating helps me with the fact that I just need to man up and let go of the fears I get anytime I start to pick up any speed, lol. That's awesome that you're still at it! I hope that's me one day!
You must real love to skate thought I had it bad sidewalk and road really bad hear but I have some trail. I'm 64 and still rolling been rolling for 37 years keep it up. Hope some day you get a trail
One of the things I dislike is that the paths where I live are really difficult to skate on and the roads are too dangerous so I have to walk or drive to a park or something just to skate
Oh man, 100% agree on these. Annoying that people don't understand "skate" despite us all calling quad, ice and inlines "skates" in the first place. On a side note, Walmart did let me skate into their store once, and it was magical.
Haha, great idea! Love the creative negativity. 😄 You've listed five valid and recognisable points, though I'm a lucky bastard with a brick & mortar skateshop at about 20 minutes skating. Some inline skaters from neighbouring cities have to drive for more than an hour to get there. Also, most evenings, there are other bladers at the skatepark, which is also nice. I do hope that the rise of rollerblading also results in more physical shops, everywhere in the world. A lot of people quit this sport because they accidentally ordered skates in the wrong size and a physical shop is the best way to avoid that kind of disappointment. But let's ignore those disadvantages and just keep rollin'. 😉
My main issue is the weather dependence. No matter what I promise myself during the nice months, I always drop off on my activity come winter. This in turn results on me gaining weight and needing to re-learn my technique and balance to adjust for the extra weight in spring. Takes a few weeks to get back into it, then at the end of summer rinse and repeat. Another point is beautiful spots to skate with horrible unsuitable surfaces. It's very frustrating. Agree on the needing shoes with you. Some slip on Vans are a nice compact option to carry on your back. Also, that black, white and gold combination looks great.
I aggressive skated all through my teenage years, and a little into my early 20s (I'm 33 now, actually still have my last pair of skates I bought haha), and all these are 100% true, especially #4 haha we use to skate everywhere, and what we would do when we went inside somewhere (and they wouldn't let us be in our socks) is we would just pull our liners out and walk around in those. I just bought my first pair of big wheel skates so I'm stoked to be getting back into it 🤙
One thing I really like bout inline skating is how versatile it is. U can either go aggressive or just stride long distances fast, I just feel like u wouldn't go as fast and smooth in skateboards
#3! Hell yeah! No shops within, at least, 100 miles of me. All these recommendations and reviews and social media threads about the skates I should try are ridiculous because I can’t go shelling out all that dough to try all these different skates. And being a relative newbie makes it harder. Good video. Great channel! Peace.
Good list, Dude, and it’s a good topic for discussion a few of mine are: *No fellow skaters - like, none! *Unwanted attention. I don’t mind stares, looks, laughs, etc, but if you skate past certain groups you just know some smart ass is gonna shout something. *I sweat profusely! Even when out for a ‘casual’ roll a come back literally dripping with sweat! 😂 *It’s a fair weather sport. It’s not that it can’t be done it’s just that it’s not as enjoyable in the wet, but this applies to many outdoor activities.
Good points, that's also why it motivates me to skate every evening. Especially because everyone is amazed by the LED wheels on my skates. But the definite best is when a little kid says something like "Hey, regarde ses patins! / Hey, look at his skates!" and within me I know that this dad will be bothered for a few days with his kiddo wanting some rollerblades that light up :)
Man the first part of number 4 is so true! It took so much or me to finally say ok these are the skates I’m getting. after spending so much time researching and watching reviews. It’s really hard to look things up as an in-line skater because you really can’t rely on reviews from the items cause there aren’t any. You really just have to hope one of the youtubers have done a review on the skate.
Ah the first one, I get that a lot. In reality I guess people need to clarify and skateboarding is the most common so it's the go to... The rest I agree with. It's disheartening that there are no inline dedicated stores locally, just stores that are willing to stock a select few inline skates in a single size.
I hear ya on the lack of inline skaters, who skate at or near my level. I'm a high beginner-intermediate skater, and although there are people who skate near me, most are either expert level or super novice. So hard to find the right fit of friends to do this activity. And with the commenter below on skating being a dry weather activity, that seems to go with most outdoor sports. So when wet I just find a covered parking lot and skate there. Not as fun, but better than nothing. Another gripe I have is that the boots are so hot, especially in the summer. Although my boots fit well, it feels so good to get them off after a long session, just to cool off my feet. Other than that, I love skating.
I have been trying to get more active and haven't skated in over 20 years. I am starting to miss it and while I never did aggressive skating or tried to do any tricks I find myself wanting to take it up again as something to do. The lack of brick and mortar stores definitely sucks. The technology for skates has changed so much that I wish I could try some on before buying. We have plenty of skateboard shops and Bike shops but none for inline skating. In any case I will grab some online soon and see about getting back into it.
@@friedchicken3242 I totally agree. I've always thought, that if cycling can be all under one roof and mountain and road and bmx can all be in the same place, why not skating?
Interesting...😊 Number one mostly happens when speaking English, in Spanish it's a bit more specific when telling someone. And I totally with number four (I live in a big city) so I also skate as a means of transportation... I had to find a workaround, entering places without skates... So, not ideal but I resolved with the XSJado skates. 🤗 One more fun fact, Where I live (Buenos Aires) rollerblading is a bit more common, so it's not that strange to find bladers at Skateparks, or even on the Street.🤗🤗🤗 Anyway, big fan of the channel here!!! Love the content!🤗
I dislike the lack of width options and custom sizing of skates. You are sort of forced into a brand of skate boot depending on the width of your foot. I love how hockey skates have narrow, normal, wide, extra wide, and even EE wide. Truly let's you customize the width and length for that glove-like fit. Another is just it's too damn hot where I live to skate outside of fall/winter time. Dry desert heat is brutal, so I'm kind of stuck to garage skating, but thankfully it doesn't rain much in the winter. Seeing another skater in the wild is sort of like seeing a unicorn though and I always feel like doing the Leo point meme, like hey!! one of us :P Great video and nice skating!
For the reason #4 Look into the Doop skates from Powerslide! It's like Flaneurz but for inlines. You can wear em with regular shoes and just put those babies on (they also got ankle support). Haven't tried em myself since I'm broke but the concept is pretty interesting.
Also to add that each time you Google skates, it'll automatically show you skateboarding stuff instead. Which is really annoying, you gotta specifically add in the word inline to find what you're looking for.
Skating location limitation is in people's heads. One of the reason I love skating is that it expands training sessions options, not limits them. One or two cones routines in your living room or in the kitchen. Nearby parking lots (without or even with more cones than in your kitchen) Garages Ground floor perimeters of some smart companies' (mind their business hours and overtime workers will "forgive" you for rainy weekend or night sessions) Exploration of places during business or leisure travel. Try to take your skate board as a cabin luggage, not to mention - a bike. All those places are perfect for work on skate handling skills, which will make you faster and more confident on smooth trails every time when you can drive and skate there. You might not even need those trails that much: urban skating may satisfy.
Another downside, it is dependent on pavement, a man made surface. I love being outside in nature, in the woods or with trees. Hiking and mountain biking lend themselves to this, but not skating.
I just stumbled on this video and your reasons are exactly what discourages me, to be more active an progress in my skills. So same problems here in Germany. We have some small skateparks in Bonn, but mostly used by skateboarders and scooters.
Very good points. Can't complain about number of skaters where I live, but I do know many other cities with this problem. Was about to say that it sucks it's mostly a dry sport, but I plan on making a rain setup 😁. Congrats on getting to 15k 🤜🏻🤛🏻💥
I did roller blades first when I was young and then went to skateboarding. I always missed it. I was pretty good. But, just followed the trend at the time. I got good at skateboarding too. Late teens developed a staff infection in my leg that took me out of skating. It took 4 surgeries and a month in the hospital to get rid of the infection. A whole went by till I was able to skateboard again and my legs were never the same. I was never able to get back to the level I was at. I got very hurt trying to do the things I used to. So, I gave it up eventually. That was when I was 16-19 I’m now 32. Just the other day my family said they were going to the roller rink. I didn’t even know they were still around. I took my daughter and we had a blast. It felt good to rollerblade again. Was a little shaky but got it back pretty fast. I’m mad at myself that I followed the teen trend back then and gave it up. Now I don’t care what people think. So for now, I have no complaints lol. I’m sure they will all come but for now, I’m enjoying this once loved activity. And I’m so happy to have my little ones join me. It will be a great lesson of, do what you love. And who cares what other think.
Last time i ever wore an inline skate was way back 1997. Lately i've been watching inline skate channels and spark my interest to skate again.. hopefully i'm not too old for a comeback 😅 i guess there are no age limit for having fun haha
You are never too old to skate. I jumped in feet first at 32 and provided I don't pick up any serious injuries, I can see myself still at it at 62. Don't skimp on protection and drill the basics when you are relearning!
@@AlanosaurusRex thanks man haha, I am actually really xcited haha. Felt like a kid to be honest waiting for my order, from china😅 cant wait to try them on.. cheers to u good sir...🍺🤘💯
Cramps are one of my biggest annoyances with skating. Sometimes I get horribly bad cramps, sometimes even when I fall my legs tighten from me moving my foot weird!
I was a longboarder, in my youth I sorta talked down to inline for the inability to bail and having to take the skates off and put shoes on to go indoors. I have some poorly fitting hand me down inline skates I use now. Wish there was a local shop so I could figure out what brand fits me best. I really like the look of the Flying Eagle F5S as it can be set up flat wheeled or flip the front and rear axle to slalom. Not sure if I'd like slalom but to be able to try it and have a seemingly really solid skate for $180 is appealing
Great Video! I totally agree with your point of view. I live in Algarve, Portugal the scene here is so small.. I skate by myself most of the time and sometimes with a friend of mine that is a skateboarder we usually just go to skateparks and most of the times we are the only ones there. Recently I meet a group of in-line skaters here in Algarve, they are really nice, the only problem is all people in this group live in different places and have very different lifestyles it's hard to make plans. I would love to have a nice skates hop here, I think that will help the scene grow . There is a lot of people that want to try skates, but the only shop here is decathlon, and no one in that shop knows anything about in line skating, so if you have any doubts, that's not the place to go.... Yeah with in line we can't escape, if you hesitate in some situation you're bailing for sure. Keep the good work and have fun. 🙂
Pedro, have you been to Barcelona? I lived there a few years and it is skater heaven, specially for inline slalom skating which is what I love doing. Adeus :-)
And even if you find someone who also skates, you might not even be interested in the same disciplines. For example i feel like here in germany most of Inline Skates do fitness or stuff like speed and marathon. My interest is urban and wizard, so that also might limit compatibility.
1 and 2 for sure! Dude I live in south Ga and if you don’t hunt or fish then you’re looked at like a freak, and in-line skating down a street is taboo around here. I get looks like I’m a dang alien lol. But also, summers down here are killer, 95 to 100 degree f in 100% humidity, that junk just hurts. But man love your vids, great music, great editing, great points and great skating. Keep doing your thing and just keep rollin brother.
Where I live, in my city... We have a lot of pro rinks and even in big parks of the city we have a skating place, I recently started skating again and I was very surprised on how many people were there and the amount of skating schools they are in those free spaces to skate. Seems like people here are really into skating and competitions. Would be cool if your city had more spaces like those ones to promote fitness. I live in Bogota, Colombia
Amazing, love the content, super smooth and professional, quick question based on your experience which one do you recommend, suggest for this type of content rollerskating GoPro or Insta360 camera? any suggestions, recommendations will be appreciated... thank you.
Both, Insta360 is easier to shoot/capture with and GoPro is easier to edit with. Really depends on the style of shooting and editing you want to create.
I also need to add that I’m a 90’s skater also and never had a pair of skates of my own! I used my sisters rolerblade “Lightning’s” haha I just recently took my kids roller skating at the local indoor rink and I rented inlines and I was slightly nervous but I totally picked it right back up no problem! The rentals were terribly stiff and beat the hell out of my feet and so I ordered some Macroblade 80’s I figure for the price and the amount of skating I may or may not be able to do, those skates will be just fine. I mostly urban skated and skated those lightnings for two summers until I couldn’t cram my foot in them anymore. Unfortunately I never had a pair after that but I got into some stalls and jumps and there was this skate spot we called”Beauty Banks” because it was in the parking lot of a beauty college and had perfect hips and rollers you could jump and pump like a paved pump track. Haha good memories.
Living in the UK I have a few skate shops within 3 hours of me but the problem is a lot of them don't actually have the stock in to try. They order specially in when you place an order.
I have a pair old hypno skates, i kept them because they are my iceskates too. I think Im going to try them again with the Wheels. 3 and 5 dont bother me because I van take the wheel plate of. And in the Netherlands are a lot of skaters.
Hayley: Hi plural system getting into roller blading together, we're actually getting our first non rental blades from REI because it was the only option we could find in Richfield Minnesota and even with them it's order online but local return, just only place we could find a hard boot for our bad ankles that wasn't $300+.
Taking my little dog for a 2 mile run (cavalier King Charles) is much easier on blades then my skateboard. I do still have a longboard skateboard and it’s much more difficult to control him if he wants to cross in front of my board as opposed to when I’m on inline skates.
Yes to me it is also 4.2. Inline skates in contrast to skateboards are pretty suitable for commuting or going somewhere though you can do it on a skateboard on inliners it still is more convenient imo.
Are you allowed to inline skate everywhere in the US? In Germany you have to use passengers way (side walk). Sometimes I use bicycle paths, but it's not meant to use them as an inline skater. I'm pretty fast with them and I think it's quite dangerous for other people walking when rolling past them, instead of just using bike lanes where you can hold up with the speed.
It's not regulated in most parts of US. I thought that you can use the (very smart one-way) bike lines that are at the edge of sidewalks in Germany. And I bet that you are faster than most bike line users. So should be no objections. Anyway, thanks for the tip: I was sure that skating with pedestrians verboten ist, but it looks like everyone else had same opinion or just a common sense, so none was objecting.
@@BlazingTyphlosion i live in germany and noone has ever objected to me skating in the bike lane, even most super markets let me go inside with my skates on.
Both commute related and might just be a Sydney problem. 1. Stopping quickly is not easy for beginners. It not only makes it a danger to yourself but also other pedestrians. 2. Too much legal gray area about where you're allowed to move through. City sidewalks are too crowded to easily maneuver, and you're gambling with your life if you head into the road.
Dang man you couldn’t have said it better 😭 all these reasons are so true and there is honestly more than 5 reasons LOL Also what boot is that? Is that the rollerblade Twister edge X that came out this year?
@@ThirtyandRollin I’m sorry if that sounded rude I was just saying that there are many more reasons but the 5 you said were spot on 😁 About your boot!! That’s awesome 😆 they look very similar to the X versions of this year. Also thank you so much for answering my question 😁
How do you find the twister xts? I ordered the FR1 2022 and i gotta return them for a larger pair. I got the twisters but the women version. They were too narrow.
You said that one of your dislikes is taking your skates off to go into a store have you ever tried a doop skate from powerslide they are basically like xsjado skates where you wear your shoes while your skating I used to commute to college in my blades and I hated taking my skates on and off and my shoes on and off all the time but I never really had the money to buy a pair of skates just for commuting around the city I would be really interested to see a review of the doop skates from you
This probably depend on where you live, living in country where almost no body import or produce inline skate hardware is sucks a lot. Shipping cost and tax inflated the price almost double even more, the selection and stock that you get from brick and mortar shop is very limited, if you trying cheaper option what you get is something alibaba brandless wheels with questionable quality, you have to wait pretty long if you pre-order something you probably have to wait weeks even months before getting your order and refund probably doesn't make sense if you order from oversea, the inflated price will people think you're rich or have big disposeable if you invest a lot in your setup. I just hate the fact inline skate is "expensive hobby" and if you hate labelled as "rich hobby-ist" a niche hobby like inline skate probably inline skate is not really fit for you
just ordered a pair of powerslide next 125mm for commuting and rolling around I am the only one in my town that commutes with skates and a bicycle I am 47 no excuse for anyone plus I do not own a car it is not hard with a good workout
The cement and or Pavement where I live it’s fucking garbage. I am very new at the blading and I found a parking lot near my friends house that is smooth enough surprisingly the practice but I pronate very bad and trying to get on center edge is difficult
Locked in and fully committed. Fuckin heard🤣🤣 I think I might be another month or two out from putting my skates back on from being fully committed at the skating rink and sprained my ankle. It's been 3 months now, I can almost go down stairs without any pain🤣🤣
My number 1 is there is no stores around that sell them I have been around when all the sport stores sold them I believe until they get them back in store we will never see a lot of skaters people don't want to spend the money they are asking for skates when they not sure if they are even going to fit properly or how they are going to feel my last to pair l would never had got if I had tried them on in a store now they sit in the basement tell I get around to selling them at a loss . My number 2 is you can't go in to places it would help the environment my number 3 is I wish they would mark the trails a line to show the people where they can walk people hear take up the hole trail I shout to tell them I come but they don't hear ear buds in can't hear me . I skate on my own to it socks but at least I have an app I can share what I have done and see what other have done . You were saying how skating with others helps you to push yourself an app not as good but it may help push you in your goals check your relive someone trying to push you. Great video as always
It is funny that "Roller Skates" means "Quad Skates" now and "Skateboarding" means "skating" now :) But dude there is a skate board for snow now ... but there was already a snowboard so that sport is truly screwed with it's naming :) Doesn't matter cause Girls like Skates more then Skateboard now and even if they actually like Quads not Blades, we count that as a win on skateboarders :) P.S. Kids "Ride" scooters and don't tell them that but ... scooters don't have seats on.
@@ThirtyandRollin The lack of skaters and shops and the people who doesn't know about skating. Because I had the same here in Egypt. But in the last few months the sport became so famous in here (actually it became a trend globally and locally) with more of online stores (we still don't have physical store except one from Powerslide and it's the worst store ever made). So I wanted to know the same happened with you.
@@ThirtyandRollin Maybe you need to spread the sport in your local community in Facebook groups and Reddit.. That's how we make the sport grow from 5-6 people to 62K in Cairo and half a million member in the whole country group.
if you cant go inside buildings by skate , get an doop skate and never get told to step out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fue3r8n6Cz0.html
the first three: don't dislike skating, blame a homophobic and toxic masculine ad campaign by skateboard companies in the past for driving people away.
