*** VIDEO UPDATE HERE!
3 Years After Using Green Mountain Grill vs Traeger Pellet Grill Pros & Cons! • 3 Years AFTER USING Gr...
5 reasons I chose a GMG Pellet Grill over a Traeger in 2017
Thicker Steele, more durable.
All in 1 Grill! Higher temp (500 to 800 w the Pizza attachment!) vs Treager 400, selling my weber
Wifi! Why Wifi? Set Grill Profiles, Program your meals
Meat Probe, w/ app monitoring
Traeger void warranty w other brands pellets
3 Years After Using GMG Green Mountain Grill Pellet Grill Pros & Cons!
video here! • 3 Years AFTER USING Gr...
I have had my GMG for a year now and have had a TON of fun smoking some meat on this thing! I wanted to review some of my pros / cons with you with my noob experience.
lets start out with the pros!
cooking size internally is a plus, large space! added rack helps cook more
The temp is spot on, never had issues with keeping a temp on the grill, and fire remains constant.
Buzzer when hopper is low is handy.
Once you know how to start it / turn off, its very easy.
Wifi version is nice! fun to be able to set temps on the fly, stop cooking Etc.
Can turn up the temp very high if needed.
Cooking book is really handy to get ideas and know internal temps of meats.
The smoked products have been amazing, I look forward to making my own meat for dinners / lunches, and great to entertain parties with!
fairly easy learning curve, youtube vids definitely help, like my first Tritip and brisket.
Having the cover is a nice plus, keeps the grill looking new and not weathered in my OR rain.
making meat then freezing the extras is a plus!
experimenting and trying new things is really easy.
Cons
While the Wifi version is nice, it is very confusing to set up, and to maintain.
Wifi only works if you are at the house, you cant adjust easily on the go.. it supposed to work, but often found connection issues.
Hot spots - my right side is definitely hotter than my left, could be my fault since I have the vents closed, but worth mentioning.
vent is nice option, but really its covered 99% of the time in foil for easier cleanup.
I have had the fire pit section over head a few times which made way too much smoke, i had to stop the grill and clear the pit and restart to fix. Could have been due to some pellets getting wet, again, user error.
We still kept our Weber Grill for quick hotdogs etc, since we are under time crunches when we make dinner, a gas grill is just ultimately faster, even if you can sear a steak on the GMG.
So last yr I gave reasons why i chose this unit over the Treager, and honestly, i love my GMG, I dont regret my choice at all, that said, if you got a Treager and you like for the same or difference reasons I like my GMG, leave a comment on why!
I look forward to making more stuff on my GMG, and and very happy with the product after 3 year.

I've made the decision to get a pellet grill. I just started out searching and researching. Your video has helped so much, as I was already leaning toward the GMG. I've had all the other grills before and my best was the electric smoker. However, the electric smoker crapped out on me this week. I will say it was great while it lasted, but was a bit overwhelming at times, in regards to the continuous "babysitting" it required for an amateur like me. Thanks so much for doing this video as it adding more positive reasons in my decision making process.

I can get my Traeger (junior Elite) up to 450 degrees on the hood thermometer. SO you can for sure sear a steak if you know where the hot spots are! and if you take out the diffuser plate you can for sure get it even hotter!

Thanks for the great comparison video! Your reasons for choosing over a Traeger make complete sense (heavier grade steel, not having non-same-brand pellets void the warranty) are very valid points, and the wifi app seems great. The newer model (Daniel Boone Prime) is pretty sic, too, and nice with the window on lid. I'm sold and buying one online tonight. Appreciate your time in making this vid!

Hi. I purchased a GMG over a Traeger for all the same reasons in your video. I too find the Wi-Fi difficult to setup - and never really managed to get the home network/internet option going but dedicated to the Grill works no problem. I’m in Australia and there are not too many around but it’s a great grill/smoker. I just ordered the pizza oven attachment.

Just bought the Davy Crockett and I can’t wait to try it out! My brother has the Daniel Boone and the Davy Crockett and he says he likes the DC better. He thinks it gives the food a smokier flavor than smoking on the DB. It looks small but you can really get quite a bit of food on it. He even cooks a lot of his side dishes on it in cast iron pans.

Solid video, just figured I'd throw me 2 cents in since I bought a Traeger Lil Tex 22 this past weekend and was considering the GMG first. My traeger actually has two integrated temp probes, which isn't a huge difference but it's nice. I haven't gotten it too hot yet, I only smoked a brisket so far, which came out awesome. I sort of like the anxious feeling of checking your temps yourself and really waiting for the meat to be done, so the wifi features were useless to me. I also purchased the cover to make sure it lasted as long as possible. Both are great grills but the Traeger is more readily available locally, with accessory and pellet support.
@joshtredway4017
@joshtredway4017 7 лет назад
A couple notes here: The GMG is a great grill, definitely not going to bash it. Just want to correct some misinformation. 1) The Traeger can easily hit temps of 450, mine tops out around 480 and I have no issues searing meat. 2) Using non-Traeger pellets DOES NOT void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act ( 15 U.S.C.A. 2302) forbids the conditioning of a warranty upon the purchase of any product or service "which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name." Other than that, smoke on!

I did the same kind of research and decided on a completely different grill from Grilla Grills, their Grilla model Competition level smoker grill, because of the footprint and quality of construction, it also has a quick pellet dump for changing pellet flavors and a sliding lid instead of having to life the lid. For $799 it's worth every penny and shipping is included. It also has a meat temp probe that comes with the grill. But alas not WiFi enabled, but has a full 4 year warrantee, heavy stainless steel grates and the customer support is fantastic. Oh, It cooks really well to.

I'm still in the information gathering stage on pellet grills. My son bought a Yoder Smoker YS640 which has thicker steel than either of these grills but it also costs more. The food cooked on a pellet grill is superb. I'm wondering about the mechanics of the auger. Are they all about the same? Is the accuracy of the temp gage the same? I've also seen Camp Chef models and Louisiana Kitchen models. Anyone have thoughts on those? Nice video.

A friend has a Traeger, so I'm familiar with that. But I wasn't too thrilled with how flimsy it seemed to be. Then I saw a video presentation on the Camp Chef and it seemed like a little higher quality unit, but man is it expensive. Well now, I'm gonna have to really consider the Green Mountain Grill. We really do want a pellet fired grill because rain, snow or shine, we want some burnt meat to put in our pie holes!

I have had a Traeger for 7 years now. I love it. I did have some issues with the power cord but sorted that out. I upgraded to the digital temperature control and bought the steel shelf attachment. Regardless which pellet grill you choose, you will be very happy with how many great things you can cook on a pellet grill. They are fantastic. I have used Canwick hardwood pellets for years which are great when you just want heat. I will spring for a bag of expensive cherry, maple, hickory or mesquite wood pellets when smoking. Can't beat cooking with wood.

I originally got a Traegger. Kept getting Ler error which causes grill to shut off and I lost some meats by I wasn't sure how long the smoker had been off. I tried all trouble shooting recommendations and it continued to happen. I returned it and got a GMG. Definitely more durable and stronger build quality. No issues with GMG grill so far. Works great and the wifi is great. Also the GMG gets higher temps and you can fine tune temperature more then you can on Traeger. Lastly agree using any pellet brand you want is a huge advantage

LER is caused by brack draft of wind going in through the hat and killing the fire, its a fail safe. lower the hat on windy days, don't hate on Traeger because you didn't know how to use it.

Because I like your reviews, can you give me your opinion of the Camp Chef woodwind with the sear box? I wish someone would do a comparison with the CC, GMG and the Rec Tec!

I bought my GMG Daniel Boone (non-wifi) on July 5th at a dealer in Columbus, Ohio. I waited longer because of the search/research process and I'm glad I did. Like you said, the GMG checks ALL the boxes and then some. Mine was on sale for $549.99 plus the dealer knocked-off an additional $50. So I got mine for $499.99 out-the-door before taxes...👍

although i did just purchase (not received yet) the traeger timberline 850, I found this video interesting and well done. nothing in it to dissuade me from my choice though, I believe the drawbacks mentioned are all covered by Traeger in the 850.
