Happened to me too last year, i found that indian almond leaves are mega helpful and managed to save my starter colony of black galaxy, sadly due to inexperience i have lost both my crystal and black galaxy colonies to toxic soil as soon as they were booming with babies ( i had a thick layer of substrate ) ,since then i decided to take a break from keeping caridina shrimp, but now i have completed my 1st rack , got an RO water system ( was using storebought distiled water ) and i will tackle this endeavor again 🎉

While neocaridina are definetly more hardy they are sadly not safe from stuff like bacterial infections. I lost all of my shrimp after adding a few new ones in a matter of about one week. Sometimes it is just bad luck

Hi, Just got to your channel by accident yesterday, wonderful channel! I have already subscribed. I own a 120L planted tank with only CRS in it grades A-S. I began with a colony of about 15 pieces back in 2008 in a 40L tank and been breeding them ever since. I've had my share of bad experiences and near destruction cases. I moved them to the 120L tank back in 2019, and had a massive success in getting the ~150 shrimp colony into a ~350 shrimp colony. Exactly one year ago, one day when I got back home from work I noticed about 40 dead on the soil. I immediately changed 90% of the water, and started dosing GlassGarten Fit+, it didn't do anything. I kept on changing the water on a daily basis and kept on clearing about 10-20 dead a day. I ended up with about ~80 left who had survived and the bacterial infection does sound like the only logical explanation. A few weeks before the whole thing I added a cryptocoryne into the tank, which I never kept before, and I keep on blaming it on him. I also ran out of Indian Almond leaves, which might have also been the case. But ever since I keep at least 3 Indian Almond leaves in the tank at all time, and avoid adding new plants. The colony hasn't really returned to its glory days, with about ~120 running around these days. I have been waiting to have enough spare-time to reset the system and perhaps by that "starting over".
@ShrimpMania
@ShrimpMania Месяц назад
I feel you. It could be very upsetting when it happens. The only advice I would give you is to reset the tank if it happens again it always works to fix the issue. Don't try to fix it any other way or you more likely lose more shrimp.

I know the pain. I lost 7 shrimps in one of my tanks yesterday, nitrite test came elevated and the next minute I was busy with buckets moving around the house to save these little guys.

It's a good video. I was also able to reconfirm that an infection had spread to the aquarium, which should be reset. There was room for improvement in frequent water changes once a day and administration of enzymes as one measure to prevent infection.

I had some sick shrimp. I quarantined them. I then added Indian almond leaves and catappa leaves.I put a few of the leaves in the tanks. They have healing properties. I also added Hydroperoxide at low doses. Then water changes. I actually saw it healing the shrimp. I have also beaded the two last bacterias you mention. They suck. Great video, I freaked out the first time I experienced bacteria deaths. I keep the leaves on hand just incase.

I can recommend also a immune support feed. What I can recommend from my own feeding is firstly Bee Pollen, but I think you have it. The second one is something I did not saw it in any YT Video so far is, or hear from other breeders is "Soybean Powder". In Japan its called "Kinako". I guess you are able to found it in any Asian grocery stores. Or just buy your own some Soybeans, roast is a little bit, but not to dark, and grind it to a powder. This Powder is an power food for health and baby survival. What You can also try is to feed Cinnamon barks, because the bark had a antibacterial effect that may help to get rid of the bacteria in the shrimps body, but I am not sure about it. However, Mark from "marks shrimp tanks" also use cinnamon barks in his tanks.

You mentioned if you only had one tank and this happened, it would be devastating. I'm in a fortunate position to have a few tanks so if one gors down the rest are still ok. Until the day they all go down, heh

i bought 5 amanos. or so i thought. 2 were sort of a different color and different behaviour. after a few months I saw about 20 shrimplets, so I knew I did not have amano! then I discovered a serious callamanus worm problem and had to dismantle the tank. moved as many as I could to a "shrimp tank" that had been set up for over 3 months ... within a week the mom and daddy died and because they were transparent - i saw the same symptoms: very thick intestinal tract, almost like conspitation. but this is a symptom of bacterial infection. moved the surviving 8 or 10 over to a "plant tank" and lost a few more. i started treating with maracyn two. so far the survivors are living, completing molts, eating and moving around the tank.not sure if its protocol since you did not mention it, but it seems to be working for my little crew. (the original amanos are still going strong, not affected by the new tank at all). i think they might be cherry culls or something that looked like a white amano when teeny - which is when i got them from my local store.

Unfortunately neo have it too. I just ordered some antibiotics and waiting for them to arrive. Have added Blackwater extract, cinnamon bark, guava leaves, I did water changes, I fed with Glasgarten Shrimp first aid, they are still dying and I hope antibiotics will help. It will kill my B, so I have extra media handy to put in after the treatment. Just remember, any antibiotics will kill BB, so always handy to keep some extra cycled. You can just add the gravel from the healthy tank as it will have plenty of BB on it.

I thought my water peramiters were off, but testing showed no difference, but a few weeks later, I saw the culprits. Damsel fly nymphs!!! They ate my cameleon shrimp. They've been leaving my larger red nose shrimp alone along with my fish, thankfully, but I think they might have wiped out all of my cameleons. I'm taking out the nymphs I see and several have emerged into their adult form only to drown due to the lid on my tank. I've come to the conclusion that I just need to wait them out before reintroducing cameleons back into the tank. Serves me right for not properly treating and quarantining new plants. I've certainly learnt that lesson well.

I'm not sure. I haven't tried a UV filter but I don't think it will help as most of the bacteria lives on the surface and can also transfer from shrimp to shrimp like a disease

Excellent video. If I suspect bacterial infection, I use carbon 1st then remove before using hydrogen peroxide and a product called Voogle, voogle is a booster medication. Also using immunity feeds helps. For toxic soil you can add bacterial powders designed to be used during water changes to break the toxicity down, enzymes too. The company that makes no planaria (Genchem) is closing, so it won't be around for much longer. Z1 from SL Aqua is really good and treats hydra and planaria. I feel your pain, been through this myself.

@Rorther
@Rorther 11 месяцев назад
You can use RO to top off the aquarium, of evaporated water. When doing a water change (you usually don't need much, with shrimp tanks) then you gotta remineralize it. If you are always just using RO mineralized, you maybe adding too much, since it evaporates only water, and you topoff with water and more minerals.

Oxytetracycline, Nitrofurazone, Enrofloxacin and Acriflavine should be in every ("first world") fish keeper's med cabinet... You should also have Meth Blue and Malachite Green to suppress fungal infections and a concentrated source of "beneficial bacteria" to reseed you tanks after they have been medicated.
@ShrimpMania

The problem is that the shrimp are very sensitive to any type of medication and it will more likely to kill shrimp faster than bacterial infection
@kernalbert4939

@@ShrimpMania This is untrue, my friend. Of course too much of a good thing can be bad, but if you dose correctly and pay attention to your water quality while dosing, you can effectively treat shrimp with the medications I've outlined. The secret is you MUST pay attention to your water quality because you are also impacting the biological filters with the use of broad spectrum antibiotics. Been using these medications personally for many years, so I can attest to their effectiveness and safety, if properly administered. Think nature ….and not adding a bunch of stuff like carbon and other crap in … From google…. The Indian Almond leaf also release compounds that have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. This helps the shrimp fight off parasites and other problems. The leaf can be left in the tank until it is fully broken down. Most often the stem is left behind and is the only thing that will need to be removed.
