Just found areal tula PU sniper here in canada never shot since it was exported from Russia. Literly horded by someone in the origional box it was shipped in. All proper numbers and markings with real scope and mount. I'm super happy
Mosin "sniper" barrels were never made separately. Rifles with best accuracy results were converted in sniper version - changing receivers with high walls and symmetrical machined tail, changing bolt from straight to curved, installing Kochetov/Smirnksi/model 1936 mount with PU/PE scopes accordingly. The (C) mark not always can be found on barrel. I live in Ukraine, and i had dozens of mosin'. Learned much about them from old Soviet books and by sorting/disassembly about 200 rifles.
Thanks Big Sam for another great video! I’m really digging on your Chanel and trying to catch up on all of your past videos. You’ve done a great job with them and I really enjoy your laidback style of presentation without all the hype and macho B.S. - just a wealth of mosin talk and info and the real Big Sam. - - I love my mosin snipers, all three of them - I have a PE 1938 Tula, a PEM 1939 Tula and a 1942 Izhevsk PU… well “4” of them actually, if you count the one I built out of a 1938 Tula low wall with an Accumount PE kit. The ‘38 Tula that I built it from is one of the best mosin shooters that I have ever owned and made a really nice platform for a modernized version of a PE. From 5 feet away it looks pretty original until you see the green tinted glass, the odd numbers on the windage/elevation knobs and the fact that the reticle stays centered in the FOV… it’s a very nice shooter though and I enjoy it very much and didn’t cry when I dropped it and scratched the crap out of the scope body… all though I did have to rezero it… darn😉
I'm devouring your content Big Sam great stuff. I can't wait for the buyers guide. I am really regretting selling my 3 mosins in 2020, including an 1896 Ses, with romanov crest, austrohungarian capture mark and SA stamp 😭. One question. Is there a reason you always say NAZI soldiers instead of German? Might you just as easily call the red army the communist army? They were every bit as brutal if not more so. Katyn forest massacre? Rape of "insert random city"..... Again let me stress.....great content and looking forward to 2022 and your help rebuilding a mosin collection from scratch.
Both side massacre but only one actually turn it into state policy and ended up committing more massacre (hint: not the commie). Both side rape but only one side officially put into state policy but ended up committing 5x larger than the other party (hint: not the commie). Shocking I know, I only know this last year. Both are horrible though. I just want to say they are not equal and only one of them actually commit war against peace. Also communist are too common. Tito also communist, the red Greek also communist, Finn have their own communist, France also have their own communist militia. They call them self communist but only one call them self Red Army. Also not all Red Army are communist most of them are just common citizen want to feed them self or avenge relative. And its better to call them Nazi than German. In this age its fine to be proud being a German but proud being a Nazi?
@@yulusleonard985 hey man, you're wrong. It was absolutely state policy, in the soviet union, to intern and kill citizens. You are recycling 80 year old kgb propaganda. You should be ashamed of yourself frankly, you and many others like you are part of the problem. Id bet you consider yourself progressive in some way, not realizing the way you think has been played out unsuccessfully repeatedly throughout all of history, but ESPECIALLY recent history. I may be off my mark but I don't think I am.
@@yulusleonard985 seems like there are a few nazi lovers these days on every one of these videos I watch. Imperial japanese lovers too. I value the sacrifice of my family members and all other American and allied who served in world war 2. I call them nazi soldiers too. It's a lot nicer than what my grandfathers and great uncles called them.
The only issue I see with converting an ex sniper back into a PU rifle is that there was a reason why they converted it back to a reg service rifle. The Russian did refurbish their PU rifles and store them as snipers so finding an ex sniper kinda tells me something about it. I assume they went thru processing after the war to determine whether or not they were still "accurate enough" to stay in the PU configuration but I don't know, just my 2 cents.
I know it’s an old comment but their scopes were probably busted and used to rebuild other scopes. If you don’t have enough scopes but the rifle is still good, they’d reuse the rifle
They Are JUST OK In My Book... I'll Keep My Remington 700 PSS In .308 As My #1 Sniper Rifle... From 10yds To 1000yds, No Target Is Safe.... I Have A PA 4-14x44 HUD/DMR Scope On Top & It's Very, Very Accurate...
I actually bought what I thought was a normal 91/30 back in 2014. However, after posting some pictures online today I just found it is an ex sniper rifle! The barrel area close to the receiver actually has the old scope serial number on the lower left side, it has that circled "C" mark near the Sickle and Hammer, and in the receiver it has those holes plugged up where the scope used to be. I am elated. However, I am wondering if I should buy the curved bolt and scope and turn it back into a sniper...
I overpaid for mine in a Gunbroker bid lol. 1750 after it was all said and done. Wanted one really bad and I picked up a mint one. If anybody wants to pay that for it let me know!
