Some countries have decriminalized drugs and even provide a safe place to administer them actually widely across-the-board helps people get off of drugs when they don't feel hated. There is a huge stigma against drug addicts. I feel like the solution lies somewhere in the middle. Something definitely needs to change though.

In truth, the courts count EVERYONE that is arrested as guilty until proven innocent.

No, that wouldn't work. The cops would argue it was their first time. They just got caught after their first buy. Police are wrongly expected to tell the truth 100% of the time, and sheeple believe it. Always refuse searches. Always refuse to answer questions. Demand an attorney and shut up. Don't say a thing.

In some states, the courts abide by the police officer's accusation as to whether someone was using drugs or not. Basically, if the police officer says you were, then you were-- test or no test. In my opinion, it is because we have a for-profit prison system so if it's a first offense or can be negotiated down in charges, then there is money to be made: bail, court costs, fines. The less threatening someone is, the more likely they are to not go to trial, the more likely they are to pay those fines and fees so they can get back to their lives as quickly and discreetly as possible. I believe the less threatening a person looks, the more likely they are to be charged. Even if they go to jail, they won't be a threat, easy to maintain and control. Unfortunately, all arrests are now in nationwide databases so police can run the tag, see the arrest, and stop the person. It doesn't matter if there was a conviction. The person is in the system. If they do negotiate a lower charge, then they have probation costs every month, which is privatized. At every point along the path of incarceration, there is money to be made and everyone from small towns to the federal government are all making money off of arrests. Each city/county/state games the system so they have more people feeding into their bank accounts and fewer costs, especially violence. Think about all of the profit centers along that path. For example ankle bracelets: manufacturer, sales, shipping, monitoring, software, probation officers, data entry clerk, county clerk to keep up with paperwork, attorneys, judges, court clerks, and then the private corporations who now actually run all of it so CEO's, salespeople... you get the picture. Incarceration is an industry just like any other. Profitable, too. I would bet there are studies that show just how many people can be arrested and incarcerated before there's a tipping point and the general population begins to rebel-- unless, of course, they incarcerate people no one cares about like minorities and immigrants. Just my 2 cents from living in the south all my life and growing up when it was not unusual for a rural area to arrest anyone passing through and put them out on the county penal farm to work for free doing manual labor. They were called the county "work" farm. Watch the movie HUD. This is happening all over the South right now, except the system is far more efficient and connected.

The movie should be Cool Hand Luke not HUD, both star Paul Newman. I'm old. :(

Now that America's true colors are out on display, still nobody is doing anything to beat back the hateful and bigoted back to the dark corners of society where they belong.
